This. It seems to be lost on many. The making of a good 007 is all in the nuance. That is why Connery did it best, nobody so effortlessly got the details right like he did.
It isn't just about colour surely? We have changed his hair colour with Craig, but if we go further with his skin colour, then surely other aspects are fair game?
Why should he be British? Many Americans have dismissed the idea saying Bond should be British. But why?
Why should he be able bodied? Is it fair on Warwick Davies to dismiss him for being too small?
Why should he be heterosexual?
Where do we really draw the line?
Why should Bond be Bond even? It silly to pigeon hole Bond as a white heterosexual guy with a boring name.
John Wick is Bond.
And Duck Dodgers.
Elba would be a great Bond if he wasn't black.
Moving on, I always thought (not now as he's too old) that Julian McMahon was worth a screen test back in the early 2000's. Smooth, good looking, tall, has a hard edge if required and a good actor who is from the Commonwealth.
Bingo!
Dalton seemed too scrawny for me.
Lazenby/Connery/Craig are the prototypical Bonds.

Wow - that is James Bond. Period. :-O That is one of the best film photos I've ever seen!!!! Just found it on Getty Images.
He's got a coat on.
The only scene in Casino Royale that is a crime and should have never been made, is that hilarious Ursula Andress parody moment with Craig at the beach. Really, how could Martin Campbell let this happen.
Luckily it's short enough not to harm the movie, but still...Craig was WAY TO MUSCULAR there.
Two words:
Barbara Broccoli.
He's no more muscular here than in any other scene; what gives that illusion is the framing and lighting of the sequence.
Fair point. But look at Lazenby, quite possibly the most slim built of Bond actors, but definitely the most athletic.
And probably the pump in his arms.
Many consider that a very iconic scene.
It is because he's showing he's not skinny like Pierce, soft like Rog, or scrawny like Tim.
I Like Tim's Bond, I do, but a little slight, in my opinion.
I thought Dalton was the coolest looking Bond. As I've said before: dangerous, feline-like features. When his shirt was off in LTK, I thought he had a face like a man, and the body of a little boy.
