Cruise and Cavill are, which was the point of Cavill’s comment, Giminlady, but as some of us have already taken pains to point out: Cavill wasn’t being discourteous, he was simply giving Eon a reason to hire him after Craig stands down.

It's kinda weird to see Cavill promoting a rival spy franchise but mentioning playing Bond. I suppose if people mention playing Bond he would be rude to ignore or dismiss the question. I'm sure Eon are aware of Cavill's desire to play Bond so Cavill doesn't need to mention it every few weeks! I think this is called the 'Idris Elba' syndrome. :P

Re actors and stunts - it will be interesting to see if MI:Fallout has any significant impression on Eon. Who knows, perhaps the next Bond actor will be inspired by Fallout and insist on doing many of his stunts (subject to the producers agreeing). Timothy Dalton's first week of playing Bond was hanging on top of the jeep!

He's only mentioned the desire to play Bond once I believe.

Nah, mentioned it many times in his career.

I'm firmly in the Cavill camp,i think he would be an excellent Bond.

Looks like he has used MI as a Bond audition and why not ?
It's also refreshing to see someone so enthusiastic to play the role and bring back the stunts etc.

He could be just what the series needs after B25,shame they couldn't get him now !!

I could only say "yes, he would be good" if I were fortunate enough to see a screentest. Without a decent screentest I could never say he was right for the part. Martin Campbell liked him a lot and thought he'd be right for Casino Royale.

I think he's decent as Superman but he can only do so much the material he's given on those movies. The problem with those films are they don't let him get to act much because 95% of the time it's CGI disaster porn. That's on the filmmakers, not him.

Superman is a naturally 'stiff' character,he has to play him that way.

His reaction here is a bit awkward:

"Er.. well yeah, I'll be Bond if they want me" kind of response! I guess it is a bit awkward discussing Bond when you're promoting a rival spy film franchise! I love how he used the word "impossible" - I dunno if that was just coincidence but funny given how he's promoting Mission IMPOSSIBLE.

I think it's just nice to be so spoiled for choice for a future Bond. So many good actors.

And they cast a guy who's a naturally stiff actor, which is why he doesn't play a proper Clark Kent.

So Cavill wants to be Bond? That's a good thing if you ask me, and having seen MI: Fallout, I am 100% behind Cavills casting if it happens.

Cavill has been saying for over a decade now that he (still) wants to be Bond.
As far as it's reported, he only got rejected for CR because he was too young, so it makes sense for him to keep his sights on the role.

Henry Cavill is a damp squib.

Sure, he's pretty. Sure, he looks like he could be James Bond. But in exactly the way vanilla and boring way that Pierce Brosnan suited the part.

Cavill is just wrong for the role. His persona is so laboured and cringeworthy. His disastrous PR skills will pretty much grind his entire career to a halt any day now.

He's also a horrible actor. An uncharacteristic piece of wood that has the range of toothbrush. He'd be a HUGE step down after Craig.

In the last few years, he has:

    - Appeared in numerous poor DC films giving bad performances as Superman.
    - He isn't a box office draw with all his movies underperforming (even the Superman films).
    - He can't book a good role in pretty much anything. His next film is called 'Nomis' - what even is that? He's Superman, his agent can surely get him better gigs.
    - He's a conservative working in the very liberal Hollywood which hasn't helped him.
    - He's spoken out against the #MeToo movement (which is the dumbest thing anyone in Hollywood could do right now if they want to be employed).
    - He admitted he only does films for money and has no regard for the art.
    - He had a weird thing a few years ago when he was dating a seventeen-year-old and had to publicly defend himself.
    - His personality sucks. He'd kill the Bond press tour and everyone would hate him.

This guy just isn't what Eon need after Daniel Craig quits. However, he really looks the part. I mean, you'd struggle to find a picture of Cavill not looking Bondian.

    maxresdefault.jpg

However, I don't think that means anything. After all, Craig looked very unBondian up until 2006. You just need the potential.

Cavill is also full of it bragging constantly about wanting to be the next james bond which makes him sound so cocky that's why I like that james norton is downplaying the bond rumors and seems hesitant about taking the role which was where craig was I honestly think norton has the best chance

Controversial opinion regarding Craig/Cavill and other actors: I actually wouldn't mind a "lesser" actor (as far as range goes), as long the movies can be more fun again. If Cavill is a guy suitable to play a lighthearted Bond, then I can't be arsed about acting range, really.

If he seriously does brag about wanting to be Bond he has basically scuppered his chances.

I agree somewhat. I'd rather have 10 OHMSS than 10 SFs or SPs.

Bragging? When? I’ve seen him respond to countless inquiries about playing Bond; he respectful of the history, honored to be considered and genuinely humble and gracious.

As far as being wooden and not a good actor, he’s receiving universal praise for MI; it does appear to be a game changer for him. It’s also given him a justified confidence that he can bring something to the role tha his experience on MI has given him.

Cavill is becoming a slow but steady fourth for me however still my number 3 choices are

    1. Fassbender
    2. Hardy
    3. Hiddleston

However I am glad I am not a casting director because again I am the very definition of a popcorn movie guy (which is weird since I am such a fan of Prog music which is the antithesis of pop) so I regret I did not see the period piece on BBC last night with the British actor who looks like a Connery, or the beautiful world war 1 drama with the British guy who is destined to win an Oscar some day. I only know what I know and I am sure whoever is cast I will approach with interest and skepticism the good news is even the Brosnan era wasn’t that bad and in all 24 films only one movie I ever felt he actor playing Bond was really one of the issues (and that is a view to a kill as Moore was sadly just too old not his fault we all age but yeah they should of paired him with a hotter older woman instead of someone young enough to be his grand daughter.) Other than that my issues with even the weak films the bond actor is not the issue, it’s usually what they put around Bond that is the problem so I trust after 6 times of getting it right they will get the 7th right too.

There's a useful four letter word, and you're full of it.

I'm glad none of us live in a world where you have any say in the matter of all things Bond.

Seriously, I've read a lot of things in here, but this has got to be one of the dampest, in your own word, statements I've come across.

Some of those points make him perfect for Bond.
The other half sounds made up.

I couldn't agree more. Bond doesn't need to be played by a Daniel Day-Lewis, Robert DeNiro, Meryl Streep, Al Pacino type "great actor". He needs to be played by an actor who can embody James Bond, yet make the role his own.
Personally I was never truly impressed with Cavill as Superman, so I'm not sure I'd care for him much as Bond. Then again, I found him charming enough in MAN FROM UNCLE, so who knows?
I really don't want a Bond actor who has been recently portraying other iconic franchise roles. I just want him to be Bond.
However, compared to many of the other names thrown at us the past 3 years, I'd pick Cavill in a heartbeat.

If anything - at least, he looks better then Turner. Just in case he is the next thing everybody talks about from now on. But maybe thats the problem as well - he lookedlike Supermann and he could be perfectly suited to be Bond - by looks. All a bit too convenient, bordering on boring. Bit if je really upped his hame - why not?

Funny you should mention Daniel Day-Lewis. Wonder if he was ever considered at some point? In any case, I guess the risk of casting these types of actors is EON going full Oscar bait mode. A bit how I look at the Newman scores, come to think of it. Perfect as far as Oscar nominations goes by name, but boring as hell.

I've actually watched The Man From U.N.C.L.E probably close to as many times I've watched SF and SP combined. Just a fun, entertaining film to watch on a late Saturday night.

Cavill's recent MeToo comments have also probably hurt his chances. The last thing EON will want is another "wrist slashing" comment taken out of context. Didn't they also say MeToo might be addressed in Bond 25 (in some way)? He might prove to be at odds with the agenda. That all said, I thought he was good in MI:6 (not exceptional - but solid nonetheless).
