Originally, the film was meant to be the first in a six-film franchise, but the planned sequels were cancelled after it underperformed at the box office and lost Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures over $150 million.
Lazenby was a fine Bond . He was a very inexperienced actor, but I have absolutely no doubt had he remained in the role, that he would have improved with each outing and become a very effective 007.
I'm not really advocating for Hemsworth as Bond, there are other actors I would like to see as Bond.
But (and now I risk to get the entire board falling over this) I don't think a new Bond actor should always be British. Yes, the character is British, I get that, and he should remain as such.
But if an actor (any actor, be it an Australian or American or any other nationality) can speak in a perfect British accent, he could be Bond in my opinion. It's called acting.
We don't exclude gay actors from our lists to take the role because Bond is straight. Gay men can portray straight men. Is nationality really such a limitation?
It was strange enough seeing Daniel Craig play a Swede in TGWTDT.
True. But my point was his accent was all over the place. It didn’t sound British. It sounded odd.
No none Brit actor can perfectly portray a British accent.
Gay actors will be excluded due the brand image outside of filming. Not necessarily fair at all. But fact.
Oh, I forgot all those articles mentioning Luke Evans as a suitable candidate... ;)
So you would exclude him because he's gay? Personally, I think that Fleming (given his writing and his way of thinking) would've hated a gay man portraying Bond. But the "brand" of the cinematic Bond goes beyond that. The cinematic Bond has always adapted to the times, maybe not always justly so (Bond not smoking anymore), but some aspects of Fleming's beliefs should be left in the past, imho. And that includes his perception of gay people.
Bottom line: I don't think that if a gay man were to portray Bond, it would "dilute the brand" in any way.
He'd be my number one pick for the part, easily. He'll turn 40 this year though, so too old now unfortunately. In my ideal timeline he would've taken over as Bond around 2015, playing the part for 3 films.
As I argued recently in favour non Brit actors being Bond if they are the right fit, I would have no problem if a gay actor was to play Bond. Non whatsoever. I don't feel like this because of some personal crusade just purely because it doesn't bloody matter. It's irrelevant, why? Get ready for this...
BECAUSE THEY ARE ACTORS. THEY ARE NOT REALLY JAMES BOND.
I never watched Casino Royale and thought "Daniel Craig is really good but I do hope he's heterosexual!"
But the studio will not take the commercial risk or potential brand/ franchise risk of casting a gay actor. The studio simply won’t do it....especially with all the marketing tie ins in modern cinema. They won’t want a Bond actor turning up on the red carpet with a boyfriend.
Again, it just won’t happen. It’s a business risk that the studio won’t sign off. Not a chance.
Times have changed and society is more accepting. But when it comes to business, a gay Bond actor will never be cast. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.express.co.uk/celebrity-news/349132/Bosses-feared-James-Bond-star-George-Lazenby-was-gay/amp.
A sensible and viable candidate. Definitely worth a screen rest.
Is that the modern term for a sex scene ?
Ha ha! Test....I meant test.
Ha ha.
Seriously? I wouldn't mind him cast. But at 39... I don't think it's going to happen.
I don't disagree with you at all. But studio execs and investors/ funders DO CARE what an actor would do in his private life. It is fact of business risk and investment management. The studio wants maximum profit for minimum risk.
Evans would make a good Bond and he's a decent actor, I agree. But he'll never be cast as Bond because he's gay in 'real life'.
Yes there's that too: he's getting old.
In SF , Bond posed the provocative question, ‘ what makes you think this is my first time?’ to put Silva on his heels.
