Risico’s been training like a champ. If he could work on the accent I say BB should give him a shot at the title.

How do we feel about Batman-almost ran, Nicholas Hoult. He certainly has something...maybe he's a little too 'nice' and 'friendly' looking to be Bond yet.

I've heard Hoult's name offered up before, but I wouldn't like him as Bond whatsoever.

There was a time when I would have strongly said no; but he is really growing into his looks; once in his thirties he may be just right.
Also, as far as being too friendly looking, you’re Not going to find two friendlier looking guys than Pierce and Rog.
    Don’t count Hoult out.

At 29, Hoult is a good age to replace Craig, moreso now in an age of Bond every 3/4/5 years. Chances are, by his 2nd Bond, he'd have aged into his look.

Is it just me who thinks that the level of discussion in this thread is pretty dire? You've got some members like @Pierce2Daniel, @bondjames, @bondsum, @Shardlake, actually generating discussion and making reasonable cases based on films and TV shows they've actually seen. But a lot of the comments in this thread most of the time seem to just be a bunch of one word replies, laughing emojis, etc, in response to photos people have posted.

The dream for me would be Fassbender or Elba, even if it was just for a film or two because of their age. But I know it won't be either of them.

So instead I'm still rooting for Jack O Connell. Yeah I know he's 5'8 but as I've said a million times, movie magic (Tom Cruise anyone?). Just cast short Bond girls and villains if it's that big a deal. At the end of the day he's the only younger actor I've seen suggested who I'd immediately accept. Haven't really seen him do posh and sophisticated before but imo that isn't that important. I think that's something that can be learnt/acted (Craig and Connery have proven that, both are a lot more blokey/down to earth in real life). I think what can't be learnt, performed or forced is the genuine charisma and presence that you need to be Bond. That dangerous magnetism. O'Connell had that in spades in Starred Up and I'd like it if someone could point me to someone else who's demonstrated that.

You lost me at the mention of Elba. Lol.
As far as the quality of responses, that is subjective, and as of now, there is no active search for a new Bond, so the level of interest and participation in this thread is very loose and sparse.

I couldn't agree with this post anymore. Bravo @thelivingroyale

If you can't get someone like Fassbender, then they need to get Jack O'Connell. He is such a talented actor and can really bring something new and dynamic to the part. People will likely dismiss him due to his height or his slightly less traditional look. However, he's an acting powerhouse and could bring 'edge' to the role - not dissimilar in the type of tone I expect Robert Pattinson to bring to Batman.

Plus, he's been threatening to become a big star for a while. He's broken out of British cinema with films like '71 and Starred Up. He's also due to star as one of the leads in Against All Enemies - which hopefully is as good as I hope. I think within the next 5 years this guy will get an Oscar nomination.

Personally, I think Barbara has her eye on him. Two of the original Bond 25 director finalists had hits with O'Connell films.

Totally 100% agree with you on this comment @thelivingroyale. I've actually pointed this out to the mods not so long ago. I'm finding it increasingly frustrating seeing "one line" comments here like it's someone's personal Twitter feed, plus the solitary emoji as a response which riles me up even more. As I pointed out to the mods, if someone hasn't got anything of substance to say then it's better for everyone that they say nothing at all. The only exceptions I'm willing to concede to are @peter and someone who is giving a quick and direct answer to someone's question. Other than that, this is a discussion forum, not Twitter.

Obviously we have a while till Craig hands in the shoulder holster, but at present I'm leaning towards Chris Hemsworth. I think he could give a good take on the character, more in the vein of Brosnan perhaps.

The only thing I have against Hemsworth is: would he be interested enough? I imagine the next Bond will be chosen in 2021 at the earliest. Probably 2022 or maybe even 2023 if EON can't make up their minds. Say that by that time, Hemsworth is done playing Thor. Where would he, as an actor, go from there? Bond isn't exactly a very deep role, the one that gets you critical acclaim (despite Craig's intentions). If Hemsworth wanted to flex his acting muscles after doing Marvel, Bond probably isn't his first choice. Would he be up for another 10 years in a widely popular franchise, another ten years of maintaining his body to the utmost maximum? Sure, he could do it for the money. Bond would mean he'd be certain of an acting job once he's done playing Thor. But those are not the right reasons to say yes, in my opinion.

As of recently Hemsworth appears very interested. I thinks he’s got tremendous potential; he’s got the physical attributes, can do action and has tremendous charisma. He also has a knack for comedy, which used sparingly, could bring back a playfulness to the series that’s been missing.

I found this thread more fun when one could possibly anticipate a new film in the not too distant future.

However the nearly five year gap between SP and B25 has made me feel it's somewhat pointless to speculate on future Bond actors, when B26 could be years away. It's taken the fun out it for me.

Seems to me that multiple years between entries will continue to be the norm. That could lead to future Bond actors being a one-off each time.

Thanks @thelivingroyale for your kind words, I would agree some here just think Poldark or Superman should get the role, so they'll laugh any other suggestion off.

I actually think O Connell has got something about him ironic @Pierce2Daniel mentions Fassbender ( someone who at the right time would have been my no. 1 to replace DC). O Connell was responsible for giving Fassbender one of the most grisliest of screen deaths in grim and unrelenting Eden Lake.

O Connell definitely has shown quite a varied CV and I thought he was quite brilliant in '71. So yes he's shown more aptitude for the role in my view than Turner or especially Cavill.

Look it's quite clear a number of those touting these 2 for infinitum (not all mind) wouldn't have given Craig a second look and the truth be known some of them might have been part of danielcraigisnotbond.com crowd.

He wasn't an obvious choice and I just see those 2 being like Clive Owen, too obvious and most touted and we know how that turned out.

I'm still thinking the guy could be on hardly anyones' radar yet.

The only way I see the likes of Hardy or Hemsworth getting the role is if Bond 25 is EON's final entry and they are selling the series off.

Barbara will continue to surprise and innovate the series and her choices of who will be considered let alone chosen, if the day comes that she decides to sell up maybe then a name might get the role.

Now unless she gets considerable pressure from say Universal if they continue to stay as part of the package as they are doing on Bond 25 to cast someone fairly famous. Although, casting 2 actors that have been part of 2 of the biggest box office comic book phenomenons of the 21st century I would say while Barbara and most likely Greg Wilson being at the helm is a big no no.

So Loki, Bane and Thor can forget it whether they would love to play the role, it just goes to show what Daniel has done for the brand that actors like this would want the part. No I don't think this would be the case had the series carried in the same direction as DAD or cast an actor to play the part like Pierce or Roger approached it.

Craig has changed the type of actor who could or want to play the part in a way like no other actor has, not a Craig fans opinion that is just a fact.

I'm actually starting to warm up to the idea of Craig returning for a 6th. That or Turner, or someone in the vain of Turner would make me a happy fan. But as some have said, my attention has been drawn to Bond 25, and that's a good sign, as it was wavering around the time Boyle wanted a russian based plot with a samoan henchman...bah, how dull and derivative. Now it's another beast all together, with these fantastic locations, babes and a Bond looking damn ready. And since these things take their bloody time nowadays, I find it best to concentrate my focus on Bond 25.

Still going to drop in advocating for Turner once in a while, though ;)

Somewhat paradoxically Henry Cavill's chances of playing Bond may be higher than ever. His first film after Justice League - Nomis (2018) - never got a theatrical release. Nomis was a low budget film but it's surprising it couldn't get a distribution deal.

Given the high profile nature of playing Superman it doesn't look as if Cavill has capitalized on it with big starring parts. Perhaps his one big chance - Man From UNCLE - was his defining moment to make it away from the Superman role, but that moment has passed? His return to tv - The Witcher - is somewhat of a step back career-wise.

Many A list or former A list actors have returned to tv - Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts etc but many of those actors are older than Cavill. Hollywood tends to favour younger actors in big film roles. It's conceivable he could be considered a tv actor by the time Bond 26 goes into preproduction and that might make him cheaper to hire and less of a big name. In a weird way it could make him more appealing to Eon/MGM. Irrespective of what you think of his acting ability, I think Cavill would stand a realistic chance if he's back on tv and not signed up to any other film franchises. Martin Campbell wanted him for Casino Royale. Had he concinced Babs, we'd be waiting for Cavill's fifth Bond film!

Re - Chris Hemsworth. His natural Australian accent sounds like surfer dude. It's a world away from Bond's voice. He did put on a British accent when he played James Hunt in Rush. I haven't seen the film but it got good reviews. I'm assuming his accent was pretty decent. It's just weird hearing him speak his natual accent and thinking of him as Bond. George Lazenby's Australian accent was toned down. I never really noticed it in OHMSS. I thought Lazenby has a cool sounding voice. Craig's voice is quite nice too (in a Bond context). If Hemsworth were a serious candidate he'd need to do a convincing accent. I'm sure he'd take it seriously and not give off his natural Australian vibe but you never know how things can pan out.

It wasn t just for DAF that they sought an American Bond. For LALD Burt Reynolds was approached again, as well as Paul Newman and Robert Redford.

It was Cubby who insisted that Bond should be British. Of the ones we know screen tested for LALD before Moore got the part, namely Jeremy Brett, David Warbeck and Julian Glover-who do you think would have been the best fit? I think maybe Warbeck.

One thing is sure, none of them could have matched Moore s iconic status.

Jeremy Brett was an equally iconic Sherlock Holmes though. Perhaps he wasn't physically right for Bond.

I don't think Warbeck screen tested for LALD. I dug out his book again, and have it in front of me now. He says outright that he was contracted to be the Bond...

    Page 24, collum 2:

"But it's ironic that I was actually contracted to be the new Bond and my director was to be Johnny Hough, because I had chats with Brocolli and said no, I didn't want to work with John Glen.[snip]"

I think Warbeck would have made a more rugged, though still charismatic Bond for the 70's & 80's.

There are one or two claims around the net that despite being married Warbeck was gay or maybe bisexual. I was wondering if there are any clues regarding his sexuality in his book. If true, I also wonder if Cubby had an inkling and maybe it affected his chances of becoming Bond.

As for who was the best of the LALD candidates, it's got to be Michael Billington for me.

Do a one off film for release in 2022 with Sean Connery. Keep the action to a bare minimum and make it character and story driven and it could be awesome.
Yes it's a wildly improbable idea, but think how great it would be to get Connery back 60 years after he created the iconic role. No other film series could ever likely manage that.

That would be great! And on top of that, I'd also like to see Michael Caine back as Harry Palmer for the 60th anniversary of The Ipcress File. Maybe have EON produce it?
