Well, that proves it. Two Clooneys don't make a right...
...they go left. I mean, they leave. So will I, before this turns into a racial discussion once again.

Oh dear you Turner sycophants really are deluded beyond belief.

@peter already told you no one was in the running and I know for sure his sources are genuine and not some fan boy wankery.

No one, other than possibly a very small circle, knows what Barbara is thinking; she may have not given the next Bond a though, but on the other hand , she may know exactly who she wants.

Aidan Turner is probably the best of the potential candidates in my opinion

Particularly if they want to getting rolling without a prolonged gap.

  • Turner knows he is high on the list. He does so much subtle signalling whilst refusing to address the subject whenever questioned. Its really effective campaigning. He put in his audition early with ATTWN, and now just has to continue demonstrating his eligibility througj he way he carries himself and how he dresses for big events. Masterful stuff, especially When you consider that he hasn't done much roles which are a good comparison, yet he already has much support from fans. Enough to be a frontrunner before the race has even started.

Really thought that in the last series of Poldark they were trying to set him up as the next Bond. All the scenes with his spy master really played out like M/Bond scenes.

I asked someone today about re-casting (the same person, close to EoN, who gave me what I have passed onto this site and has been very reliable)-- for my own sanity-- and I was told, about re-casting, that "they aren't even there yet" regarding who the next Bond will be.

Sure there is a mythical list, but whomever is on this list has not been seriously considered since they have a BIG film to roll out in April.
Sure Turner may be on this list, as well as a bunch of others.

All I know is, there is a more important job to do at the moment (bigger than casting the next Bond), and that is getting a great film out.

Jeez, that's common sense, I'd think.

It makes sense for sure. The unfortunate part is that we’re likely in for another big gap with the search for a new Bond actor upcoming. Hopefully they at least make NTTD a great one.

    Yep, @peter is right.

Here we just have some speculative fun. So, to broaden the list:

    Tom Mison

Thank you @peter for bringing some sense and logic to the discussion.
With NTTD gearing up the marketing there’s no way any talk of a new Bond is going to be public knowledge. EON are 100% focused on that right now.

I agree with this, but even this person who is “ close to EON” doesn’t know what’s going on in Barbara Broccoli’s head.
As I said earlier, at this point she may not have given it much though at all; she may know exactly who she wants, or it’s something in between.
Whatever it is, to some extent, I can’t believe that , to some extent, she isn’t assessing possible candidates.

I think it’s safe to think that EON aren’t fools. They’re not going to put all their eggs in one basket. Potential replacements for Daniel Craig will have been discussed at some point. Whether it be between Broccoli and Wilson, or a larger part of the team.
However, at this point no matter what, Daniel Craig IS James Bond.
He’s not officially finished with the role. NTTD is being marketed as his last film. But till he and EON confirm it, then let’s not get too carried away.
History has a habit of repeating itself. Connery and Moore were both done with the role, only to come back one last time.
And, actors who tested for the role in the past, have landed the role down the track. Most famously Brosnan.
So don’t write off Henry Cavill or Sam Heghan just yet.

But we don’t know how adamant he’s been with Barbara; if she’s convinced that this is his last, then , even if in it’s infancy, the vetting process has begun.

Yes, Daniel Craig is James Bond - for another four months. Then he's consigned to history, like the rest, and just another guy who held the torch for a while. I can't wait when the talk of the next entry truly gets rolling and we can see how the race is shaping up. There's only one new Bond every 10 - 15 years nowadays, so it's a big moment.

Right now I can only see Turner being the next guy to take over, because we haven't had many new names lately, and many of the others have ruled themselves out through their own actions. Hiddleston was popular a while back, but he has fallen off the face of the earth somewhat since dating Taylor Swift. Some guys are simply too old like Fassbinder or Bale, or perhaps even Hardy. And Elba does get the same support he used to.

Right now Turner is the man to beat.

Could 've written this myself. Something else, the way Turner carries himself in interviews is similar to the previous Bonds, save from Craig, with a natural charm and a certain cheekiness in a witty way.

    Smart man, Turner

    Smart man.

Hey, what did you guys think of my suggestion, Tom Mison. Another possible candidate for the unforeseeable future? :)

The man of wood? A steel plate has more charisma than Cavill. To each their own.

I'm betting all my money on you know who. No one can top him, it seems, so I don't bother focussing on others.

I really like Cavill too. Specially after UNCLE. And he's a good chap. For me, if the choice were to be made right now, I'd say it would be between him and Turner. And they already liked Cavill once. He's the right age now. And very well known for a miriade of roles.

@JeremyBondon, my friend, nothing wrong in discussing other viable actors. Probably none will take the part in end anyway. Just a good of old fun. I too prefer Turner, but I wager he'll be another Clive Owen (although I've never liked potato nose Clive).

I'd be really happy if Cavill got the part actually. I don't think he's "a plank of wood" as many here thinks.

I don't think he's a plank of wood either. I think he'd need to shed off some of that oversized musculature, though.

Are there any great black British actors around 35 or so? Keep both your eyes on them.

I'm not advocating Henry Cavill or saying he's a favourite of mine but I can't help feeling that EON will go for him due to recent history, just as they did in the past with Moore, Dalton and Brosnan. I know different people were in charge then but still, if it worked for Dad why not?

If the decision was made now, exactly, if it is going to be another 4 - 5 years then that changes the game entirely.

They'll plenty of actors that will pop up within the next 2 -3 years that will be touted.

My bet is the next guy is barely on peoples radars, just like Craig was.

That philosophy worked rather well for BB & MGW last time, I can't see them diverting from that.

Also do you really think Turner is just going to hang around waiting for the role and turning down other offers that might make him a name

Cavill is already tied up with that new Netflix show that they project has seasons to go on it so I would say he is out of the running now.

I vouch that the next Bond is barely known to the masses at this point.

Definitely! He looks huge these days.
  • Shardlake you may be on to something with the next Bond is barely know to the masses at this point but, that actually helps someone like Aidan Turner. He is not known to the masses. Others to consider here would be Jack Huston, Tom Cullen, James Norton and Dan Stevens they may be known as potential Bond to people like us who are hardcore Bond enthusiast but they are not known to the masses the way Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston and Henry Cavill are.

I think it is not a priority for me right now, I am just going to enjoy the build up and eventual release of NTTD.
