Butler was probably discounted on the basis that he cannot talk properly (and I don't mean because he's Scottish...). Seriously, the man needs a speech-therapist.
I think Butler was screen tested prior to Craig being chosen. I don't think he did well on the test. I really wanted him after Brosnan (or Bale) because I thought he had the right look. Seeing him in action since then has convinced me that EON made the right choice going with Craig.
Butler being cast after Brosnan would have made TND a very strange watch.
After the 300 we all thought this, but his movie choices in particular the stupid romcom's really ruined stopped him as a serious contender. I though he was decent in Law Abiding Citizen but everything after then has been awful Olympus has fallen was painful watching.
Yes, but he loses his licence to kill in the film, so the title is a little meaningless or misleading. Licence Revoked was so much better…would have made for a harder title song though!
Agreed. In fact he never struck me as Bond material.
Naturally DC is far superior to Butler. But he would have been a more rugged and Flemingesque upgrade to Brozzer (the diet, mainstream, not as hard as Connery, not as smooth as Moore) 007.
Butler or Brosnan? Absolutely no competition. Brosnan destroys him in every department.
Absolutely.
What, sack his agent for making him rich and gaining international fame?
On this site he is almost unanimously ridiculed and derided since he appeared in that film (which I haven't seen by the way). Seems like a case of short term gain for potential long term pain. He's out for Bond, that's for sure. Even Cavill probably has a better chance now.
Well, he didn't exactly make a great career move - that cannot have been the only movie job offer Dornan got after The Fall...
