Sir Roger was 46 in LALD.
But he was Sir Roger B-)
I think we shouldn't look at it as step down but in a different direction. It has always been like that,
Sean-Roger-Pierce (Cinematic bond)
George-Timothy- Daniel (Book Bond).
You are right, and I'd love it if they went back to those age groups and to the "experienced" agent episodic nature of the first films (even with slight continuity). But they won't.
45 if I should nitpick. Oh, I did.
My thoughts exactly.
Same here. He looks a bit too parody, although he seems the right age.
Aidan Turner as Cinematic Bond?
If Nolan is eventually in the mix, I wouldn’t count Styles out of the running.
Another thing, while friends say other wise he denies speaking to Bond reps, and does not even discuss if he has any interest, a sure indication that he is in the running and knows to keep his mouth shut.

Anyway, while EON may have a list about somewhere, I can’t imagine EON have approached anyone to seriously talk about the role.
He’s not an actor. He‘s an (successful and yes rich pop star) X Factor clown that now wants to be an actor.

And that may , or may not be a consideration; it didn’t keep him from being cast as, and convincingly portraying a WW2 soldier.
I don't know his music and wasn't exposed to his pop-life. I know nothing about him.
But judging him as an actor and his screen presence, have you seen Dunkirk @DoctorClatterhand ?
Once again, knowing nothing about Stiles (other than he was a singer that I could not possibly name a song he's sung), and judging him on what I saw in Dunkirk, he was noticeably a strong presence on the screen.
I don't know if he would make a good Bond, but judging from the one thing I've seen him in, he has traits that could be molded into a new 007 a few years down the road. If this was between a Cavil type and Stiles, my vote would go for the more interesting and potentially more compelling personality-- Stiles.
@talos7 isn't being controversial at all. As North Americans, not really exposed to Harry's pop-star life, perhaps we're more open to this suggestion and at least see the potential in him (since we're not weighed down by his past boy-band image)?
I don't know.
I'm mad for the man still wearing the tux, so for me this is just a fun conversation. I am more than happy to ride out the next six months having Daniel Craig as the reigning 007.
In the end, casting after Craig will be quite a job!
I don’t know if he would make a good Bond, but I see something in him.
As far as being aware of his pop background, I have a 23 year old daughter who is an immense fan, so I know quite a bit about his pop standing.
My Daughter is also a huge Bond fan; I raised her right. Lol. She is part of the future Bond fan base. She’s is very honest and realistic about the casting of a future Bond and would not want one cast simply because she likes him as a pop performer. She sees potential and absolutely thinks Styles deserves a shot at the role
That can wait, because--
Watch this intro-scene of Sean Connery... see how he lights that cigarette? (lol!)
All joking aside--
Like you, I don't know if Harry's Bond, but I don't dismiss the way he held attention on the screen in Dunkirk.
Even if he's not Bond, what he has are indicators of what the next Bond should be. Talent, Confidence, Swagger... also-- something not a lot talk about-- likability on the macro... Does the new guy exude a charm that most (not all-- that'll never happen), but most will find appealing?
Anyway, while I don't think he'd be a good fit for Bond, I could see him producing a good theme for a future film. The guy is very versatile when it comes to music.
It's gone from, "Daniel Craig is the most amazing actor...how will we ever replace him? Not even a household name actor like Henry Cavill is good enough to fill his shoes", to "Harry Styles is a viable contender" in a matter of hours.
I think, @FatherValentine , that @talos7 and myself clearly stated: who knows if this guy is Bond. I don't think anyone said he was a viable candidate. If I missed that, my bad.
But, he has traits that could make a fine Bond.
Differentiate between an absolute and musings about positive traits.
And, to be clear: I don't care who the next Bond is; I enjoy this thread to see if one of the many suggestions strikes a chord in me.
To date, I am very happy to ride out the net 6 months with Craig (and yes, good luck replacing him with Cavill-- or whomever)
An interesting proposition. Certainly makes one think.
Who from X Factor and other reality TV shows has become a plausible and viable Hollywood actor???
I know what your saying, but there are literally hundreds of talented actors who don’t need to ‘work on their craft’ as their already talented actors. So why consider a pop star/ reality tv personality. The past tells us they don’t make good actors.
I admit I haven’t seen Dunkirk. The honest truth is my wife and I couldn’t take it seriously when we saw Styles on the cast list.
He might be the one off reality tv person that is a naturally great actor, but there is a stigma around association to this ‘tacky’ form of modern entertainment that may well put off cinema go’ers such as myself.
Yeah I like the slightly out of the box suggestions, makes it more interesting and makes me consider what Bond is.
Styles just hasn’t done enough at this point for me to think he could, but I couldn’t rule him out forever. Sounds like he may well do more movies.
This thread lit up with folks getting excited about the idea of David Gandy playing it a few pages back, Styles seems more realistic than that at least.
So it is possible for someone to give a great performance in a film like “Social Network “ and still do this .
