Turner is currently 37. By the time Bond 26 is cast he'll probably be right around 40, and most big screen appearances of his are at least a year or two old. He won't look "too young" for Bond come 2024.

He looks fine for Bond now IMO.

Hoult may age, I have no idea, but at present he’s a boy.....’About a Boy.’

Jack O'Connell, who was one of Hoult's castmates from Skins, has always intrigued me. He has a more rugged quality. He seems more contemporary and I also think he has quite handsome. He looks like a cross between Sean Connery and Tom Hardy.

He also has a similar toughness and believability that reminds me of Daniel Craig. He's also a very good actor.

But is very very short though. Hardly a Bond.

Not suggesting that they would dub the Bond actor's voice. Just observing that the discussion over someone's voice sounding right or not is amusing when considering the producers had no qualms doing it in the films which established the popularity of this franchise. (You might have read they thought Ursula Andress sounded like "a Dutch comic.") By the way -- for markets in other languages, films these days certainly do get voice-over done. People do not always rely on subtitles.

People really could use some lightening up around here. These films are escapist fantasies, even the "serious" ones !

All true. But the Bond actor has to have the correct voice and an authentic accent.

If they’d have dubbed Lazenby completely he may have been a better Bond. As his Auzzie accent/ fake English accent, was his Achilles heel.

Hoult and A.Turner are the two best candidates at this stage for me.
But as has been said, when the time comes, it'll come down to the screen test and EON.

Might as well bring up Callum Turner again. A still was released from a new film he's going to be in with Shailene Woodley, Last Letter from Your Lover.

It's a bit funny that various actors' voices are being discussed here, considering the producers used voice-over for a significant number of parts in the first few films ! Not for Bond, but others including lead roles ! One would not hear as much voice-over until Operation: Kid Brother, an Italian 1967 (same year as the first film Casino Royale, and YOLT) production at the height of Bond mania with a very Sean-looking Neil Connery, as well as onscreen Bond alums -- I (ahem) Kid you not: Daniela Bianchi, Adolfo Celi, Bernard Lee, Anthony Dawson, Lois Maxwell. For those who care, it has a terrific artwork poster !

Which is actually my avatar here...

As for Hoult, sorry gents I just can't see it. Tall men with tiny heads cannot be trusted... ;)

He’s more Boyzone than Bond IMO.

Aidan Turner, yes, screen test material, plus he looks like he’s been through puberty.

Sorry, I can't see Hoult as Bond either.
I could however, possibly see him playing Jack Tripper in a big screen THREE'S COMPANY re-boot.
  • I wish Jack O'Connell wasn't such a shrimp. He's got swagger and acting chops to spare.

    Or just talented?
  • Let's hope that someone looks like Henry Cavill, but with the swagger, acting chops and presence of Jack O'Connell comes along; then we'll have our man. It's a shame Hardy is getting long in the tooth.

Never saw anything in (this) Turner, @Denbigh. Is there any particular films/shows you could point me to that have you so convinced? It seems he's at the top of your pile. Would be good to try to see it from your point of view.

And Hardy -- would he handle charming, debonair man of action well ? I've enjoyed it tremendously with Craig moving on, the series is due for a change in tack. Good grief -- were Hardy to join, and in order to differentiate from Craig and his films, would Hardy present a downright unhinged Bond, a man with a homicidal maniac inside him whom he struggles to direct only toward eeeeeevil ? (When I get to that word, no matter the lack of relevancy, how can I resist the Dr. Eeeeeevil pronunciation ? Did that just get weird ?)

Well he's yet to really break out in the industry, but he was good in and was nominated for a BAFTA for a series called The Capture. He also appears and makes quite a good impression in the second Fantastic Beasts film. He's also good in the films Emma and Mobile Homes. All very different projects and none necessarily scream Bond, but for me, I just see something in him that I feel would be good for the role, and as he ages, he seems more and more ready.

Personally I thought he was alright in The Capture but not really outstanding. I think they were hoping it was going to be another Bodyguard but it wasn't quite, and Richard Madden did do a stronger turn in that.

Hmm I can see that, but for me it's the complete opposite. While Madden was good, I just didn't care for his character or the relationship of that series, whereas with The Capture, I actually cared for Turner's character and what the story was exploring.

Just watched Callum Turner in some clips. He comes across ok, I suppose. Certainly not a completely ridiculous suggestion.

I am not sure I find him good looking enough. He's clearly attractive and handsome in a way, but not movie star handsome. A bit too geeky. I actually found him to come across better in a BBC breakfast interview than in the film clips I looked at.

Personally I would say no. But thanks for responding with his work, @Denbigh. I'd put him out of my top 5 options, and probably hovering near the number 10 mark. But certainly not totally out of the running!

No worries, I can understand that. While me and a friend of mine think he's dreamy, I see him more as someone with extreme potential as opposed to someone whose ready to do it at a drop of a hat, which to be honest, for me, is a more exciting prospect than going for someone whose name has been thrown around for the last five years, has about 200 photos of them wearing a tux, and has already played a variation of James Bond. If that makes sense.

    It does make sense.

My argument, which I have made on here several times, is that I truly believe EON to be in an absolute mess and a ruinous state, and potentially on the precipice of there being no more Bond films at all. So my preferred route out of it would be to pick a 'safe pair of hands' to see us through two or three quick films to get the series back on track of regular releases. Preferably Fassbender. After that, EON can then pick a riskier choice from a position of strength.

I would prefer that than waiting another 5 years until the 'perfect' choice turns up.

Of course, the best possible outcome would be for them to pick someone who turns out to be brilliant in the role but who nobody could accuse of being 'fan casting' or too obvious a choice. But how likely is that?

The closest analogy I can come up with is you have a football team on the verge of relegation from the Premier League. The Chairman can take a punt on a young new innovative manager to get them out of trouble, or they can turn to Sam Allardyce or Steve Bruce - safe pairs hands who you know will do a decent, but possibly unexciting job.

All of this thinking is based on my fear that after NTTD we won't have another film for years.

Your post echoes my feelings. I really want Eon to get back to a regular schedule post Craig. I don't think it's necessary to always try and be too risky. Risks are fine, but if one departs too much from an established Bondian formula you might as well rename the character and turn the film into something else.

Also, if Eon keeps randomly making films, the series could eventually go the route of the Indiana Jones films in which fans wait more than a decade to see a sequel. Same with Die Hard. It could fizzle out altogether.

He played a soldier very effectively. As MSL says, he’ll be on the list.
