I've only seen him in Hunger Games and it would be hard to shake even that image from my mind. Can't imagine the difficulty Peaky Blinders fans would have.
Moore and Broz had big TV roles, Madden coming from Bodyguard would seem to suit that trend. Even Hiddleston from Night Manager, if he wasn't also Loki. Turner too, even though he's a Hobbit, I think he's in some TV show.
I honestly think he has been out of the picture since 2005.
I think this comment has depressed many members into silence..
Cavill as Bond and never having Craig..
Great to see you appreciate Quantum as well as Casino. I don't enjoy the following three films nearly as much as those two. I can watch Quantum frequently, but those after? Very dull, long and self aggrandising films, with the prematurely aged Craig-Bond. A fellow Yorkshireman too (or woman?)
Wow...Cavill - whom I like in the part, as well - over Christopher Reeve as Superman ?
I prefer George Reeves over Christopher Reeve as Superman (just). I'd still like Cavill to play Bond.
Yeah his name will be in the conversation again when the second series of Gangs Of London is released next week. Dirisu is a great actor
I'd put a bet on that 250/1 is ridiculous. In my opinion he's one of the best suited younger candidates for the role
I forget which member it was on here mentioned Hughes (sorry) but they recommended the TV series, The Game and he's solid in that
At 37 Tom Hughes isn't that young anymore. He's going to be at least 39 before Bond 26 starts, but he's ageing well and I certainly wouldn't rule him out on the basis of age. He's done a lot of British films and tv, however I think his biggest weakness is a lack of a US profile and experience in big budget movies.
There were reports in the British tabloids at the time The Game was broadcast, that BB was impressed and had asked for more info on Hughes. OK, it was probably just tabloid nonsense but you never know. After all, BB does like her northern actors with a working class background!
Possibly me (although I know a few people have seen the show on here and have him as their pick too). He's very good in it. The show itself wasn't always to my liking personally, but his performance was captivating and the main reason I stuck with it.
He'd be an interesting pick, but I think this would mean the next Bond would be quite distinctive from the Craig era version. I can see a Bond played by him being less physical than Craig's (although it's worth saying that I feel by NTTD his Bond had become almost superhuman, being able to take down several men at a time with ease etc). Going from The Game he was quite good at playing a flawed, even morally ambiguous character, but one who still had a lot of those Bondian traits. I felt he was rather good at portraying that enigmatic, even seductive character - a man whose job is to weigh up the situation every time he enters the room. His abilities as a 'character actor' and being able to portray flawed people is his main strength as opposed to him being an 'action star'. I've said in the past I can imagine Hughes getting the role would be a bit like how the Batman series went from Cristian Bale to Robert Pattinson in terms of the differences between their performances. We could get something interesting from him with the right script.
At the end of the day though I don't know whether he'll get it, and it depends on where they want to go with the character. That said I can imagine EON picking someone different to Craig and who will bring something fresh to the character. I don't just mean skin colour or their look. I mean, I can imagine Sope Dirisu would play a version of Bond more or less similar to Craig's Bond going from his previous roles, as great as he is.
Yes, I remember posting that article first time I mentioned Hughes a while back - https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/tom-hughes-is-the-latest-next-bond-actor-touted-by-the-tabloids-160901 - not a smoking gun, likely just tabloids throwing stuff out that was overheard somewhere, and like I said it depends on what they want to do with Bond 26. Still, I don't think it's a lie and BB probably has seen the show. And yes, going from Sheperd he's aged well, and I'd argue looks better suited to Bond now than even in The Game, in which he looked a wee bit baby faced.
Yes, he does have a lack of US profile and little experience in big budget stuff, even compared to an actor like Jack O'Connell. Not that that's a smoking gun either for Bond. It's rarely the actor but the name 'James Bond' that gets people interested, and the public's relationship with the new actor in this role is built up afterwards. Bond is more akin to Dr. Who than Mission Impossible or Jason Bourne in this way.
Glad it's not just me either! The series gets worse for me after that - I don't like SF but can appreciate its merits whereas I'd say I wholeheartedly despise SP - but NTTD picks up after that, and while I may not agree with some of the narrative choices and whatnot, I thought it was an overall strong conclusion to the era. Still, it doesn't hit the same heights of CR and QoS for me. Those two are simply a perfect pairing to me, one of the best double bills I can enjoy.
Interesting you mention that as Dirisu gave an interview today where he addressed speculation about becoming the next Bond. It sounds as though he is a huge fan of the franchise:
https://www.nme.com/features/tv-interviews/sope-dirisu-gangs-of-london-season-2-james-bond-constantine-3327414
He is high on my list, he has a seriously cool look and is incredible in theaction scenes in Gangs of London. I have yet to see Mr Malcom's List. Though he looks Bondian in it for sure.
though I currently see myself swaying towards Aaron Pierre. He just looks like James Bond to me. Plus his voice is so dreamy.
Otherwise, my top choice is Jacob Elordi
I would not be excited if they went in this direction.
I can't think of many other options off the top of my head... maybe TLD and LTK purely because they're Dalton's only two... maybe SP and NTTD so there's an option no one will vote for... ;)
I wasn't even sure who Tom Hughes was so I've just googled him. I realised I've seen him act but didn't know his name. Good shout, he certainly looks the part and definitely worth a punt.👍
