2) Goldeneye (some classic elements; fun on multiple viewings)
3) Tomorrow Never Dies (Great idea, first half was perfect ... and then it fell apart)
4) Die Another Day (See below before you shoot me)
5) Skyfall (I like this movie a lot better than it's #5 position would indicate)
6) The World Is Not Enough (Didn't quite gel for me but I wanted to like it more)
7) Quantum of Solace (No. Just... no. Too much wrong to list but you could start will a boring villain)
About DAD: I remember the producers wanted it to be a 40th anniversary film that tipped its hat to all that came before. The Cuba segment (no gadgets) reminded me of a modern FRWL). The action was great. Madonna's song was fine for the ice party but should have been a different song for the main title. The latter half (when things get ridiculous) are a modern version of some of the old Bonds that were equally ridiculous for their time. A lair in a volcano? A spaceship that takes off, swallows other ships and lands again? A satellite made of diamonds? (I'm talking DAD here) I had never heard of a WetBike before seeing TSWLM, and apparently neither had much of the audience I was with as we all started laughing at the silliness. A few years later, they were all the rage. The real legitimate complaint is the parasailing stunt. It was poorly done and gave me a headache because I rolled my eyes so far back in my head. The invisible car, I can forgive -- especially when we've seen flying cars and submarine cars with torpedos that couldn't possibly have fit in the car before firing -- though it could have been done a little more realistically (maybe not always working, being a little visible as it really would to the trained eye, etc.)
Brosnan versus Craig. Not an issue. Both are great. Both have been perfect for their times. Brosnan never got a truly outstanding script to work with, with he complained about endlessly.
In my list above, the films after my #2 slot fall down in rank when the other Bond movies are added to the mix. In some cases, precipitously.
We can leave this Bond behind
'Cause you don't fancy it, and if you don't fancy it
Well you're, no friends of mine...
:))
I agree that Craig's performance is superior, but GE is the better Bond film.
Not in this poll. If GE really is such a good Bond film, then it should easily win from SF and its freshness as being the newest Bond film. Apparently, this is not the case. I guess one can say that even after three years the "gloss of being new" is wearing off by now from SF.
1. Skyfall
2. Casino Royale

Disregard, have already voted
1. CR
2. GE
3. SF
4. TND
5.TWINE
6. DAD - the first half is quite enjoyable. I don't mind the invisible car, and the ice palace is a great lair...something lacking since 1979 which I hope Spectre will rectify. Silva's island is close but isn't an original lair (it's a real location)
7. QOS
The score of GE pulls it down, but still top 6 for me. It's very self-depreciating and self-parodying throughout but it's very enjoyable.
Was reading back at the comments and, some of you are right, I would probably watch TND from beginning to end than SF. SF has dozens of enjoyable moments, but not great to watch without interruptions.
Now the results:
01. 1041 POINTS -- "Casino Royale"
02. 0790 POINTS -- "Skyfall"
03. 0671 POINTS -- "GoldenEye"
04. 0411 POINTS -- "Tomorrow Never Dies"
05. 0402 POINTS -- "Quantum Of Solace"
06. 0340 POINTS -- "The World Is Not Enough"
07. 0172 POINTS -- "Die Another Day"
Now let's discuss the results in here as well :-). What do you think of the final scores?
Just a short summary:
--> "CR" triumphed with an amazing 1041 points and the Gold Medal
--> "SF" got the Silver Medal, but still 251 points less as compared to "CR"
--> Still, the Silver Medal for "SF" is quite strong if compared with the Bronze Medal for "GE": 119 points difference
--> There was a fight for the 4th place, as you can see. "TND" narrowly triumphed over "QOS", though both are in the TOP 5
--> 2nd last for "TWINE", but with a maximum number of low scores "DAD" is the big loser
Still, 19 times it received the maximum of 15 points @Shark ;-). That's a great result! I actually expected GE to take the 2nd spot, given the sentiment for this film on the forum.
my votes mirrored the final results as well. lol..
but i think all things considered the voting is fairly accurate in regards to the quality of each film - GE, CR, SF easily are the top 3 of the modern era Bond films.
Well, apparently, on avaerage, people on here like SF more than GE :-P.
Foster may have been a misstep but he had a vision and plan for what he wanted. Apted just went in half a$$ed with no real conviction. So I kinda respectively disagree.
Skyfall
GoldenEye
Tomorrow never dies
Quantum of solace
Die another day
Casino royale
The world is not enough
Might be true, but i definitely prefer the resulting film TWINE over QOS.
Again, not possible to vote anymore ;-). Above you'll find the final results.
Well I do like both films ..and my heart kinda goes out to both of them. Both films are flawed and should have and could have been so much better. Credit to the filmmakers on both for trying to try something different ....the drama and humanity with TWINE and 70s revenge style and minimalist themes with QOS.
Same here. TWINE deserved better! And IMO it's still Brosnan's best Bond outing. Like Sean's best Bond outing is TB and Moore's best Bond outing is TSWLM.
