Spectre title song - Writing's on the Wall

edited September 2015 in SPECTRE Posts: 2,000
Elsewhere I suggested the title SPECTRE could well pose some challenges for a lyricist--lots of ERs and Ors to rhyme.
Clearly the title harkens back to THUNDERBALL. My hope is this next song is in the style of FRWL, TB, LTK, or CR. Instead of going with a vocal, maybe they will go the OHMSS route and not even attempt to include the word SPECTRE in the lyrics.

Good point. I'm curious to see how they incorporate it. Given the ski/alpine element, I'm all for an instrumental piece, but I think it's unlikely, however.

I hope for an instrumental title too, but I don't think that fitting the word spectre into the song's lyrics will be too difficult. In fact, it sounds a lot easier than "The Spy who loved me" or "Licence to Kill". Maybe the song won't be titled "Spectre" but will simply include the movie's title in the lyrics (like "Nobody does it better") or won't include "Spectre" at all like the first two Craig-Bond movies (You Know My Name and Another Way to Die)

It was a spectre of defeat.
    Something just over my shoulder
It was a moment of retreat
It was something that made my heart bolder

    Etc...... Etc.................

Oh yes, I think "spectre" will be quite easy to incorporate into a song.

I third this opinion. I think we should have a poll to see if anyone actually wants Smith. He seems too soulful for what Bond requires.

You know what would be great, bringing Tom Jones back to sing the theme. He can still bring it.

If they could make a song with Moonraker in the lyrics, it shouldn't be too hard to write a song with SPECTRE in the lyrics.

There are many good artits that can sing the theme song...Adele again ? Lana Del Rey ?Lorde ? Muse ? There are many older stars that never got to sing a Bong theme, so they can go for that (they probably won't tho) one last time for Shirley ?

But they will probably choose someone young and hot at the moment..so...Lana maybe ? Who else is famous right now that can sing the theme song ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace didn't have their names in the title song. I think whatever song ends up being the title song won't have the name Spectre in it and I'm okay with that.

Yes he can, actually. :) I think that would be cool! I think we are getting Adele again, though. Which I truly don't mind. Definitely do NOT have to have the word "spectre" in the title song's name.

  • As it's supposed to be Sam Smith who sings the song expect a ballad type song. However, you don't really need the title of the film in the song. OP, CR and QS didn't.

    Unless it's something like this.

    Fight, life’s a fight
    And I will win
    Yes, I am gonna win

    And I’ll light the fuse
    It will make you loose
And I will leave my mark on your soul
Like a Spectre (Goldfinger type trumpet)

    However I prefare this.

Out of the shadows steps the man
The man who strikes fear in other mens hearts
He's the man all men want to be
He's the man the women all want to be seen with
    (Musical Dnnnnnn)
He strikes like a Spectre (Goldfinger type trumpet) grabbing your heart.

How about "Let the Spectre"? Or "Another Way to SPECTRE", "You Know My Spectre" and "SPECTRE never dies another day". Really, you've got endless possibilities.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. We're all laughing at it, but I guess our faces would look similar in those particular situations. :D

As for the song, I'd like it to be powerful like Tom Jones' Thunderball. A 'light' (yet beautiful one) like Nobody Does It Better wouldn't fit in with the dark scent of the title SPECTRE, in my view.

No Sam Smith. Please no Sam Smith.

As for names mentioned above - enough Shirley Bassey already, yes Tom Jones is still great (his last couple of albums are fab), I like Adele a lot, but wouldn't really want another one from the same singer in consecutive movies, I don't particularly like Lana Del Rey or Lorde (much rather Adele again than either of those, for me), Muse sounds like a fab idea to me - they can do cinematic, melodic, classic and big.

    But not Sam Smith. Ugh.
  • I whole-heartedly agree. No Sam Smith. Had to see who he was and what he sounded like and.. no, not right for Bond at all. I will always be thankful to @Sandy for turning my attention to Paloma Faith a couple of years back. She is still my #1 choice. Another favorite choice of mine would be David Bowie. The only other voice that excites me that isn't too well known is Jonathan Jeremiah.

I don't have "doubts", I know she can sing, there's just something about her voice/style of singing that rubs me the wrong way.
