Not being on the soundtrack is big bonus. It means I can blast away, on shuffle, without fear of what might turn up.
Big problem with the SS version of the song, is that it doesn't seem there was much of a collaboration with the soundtrack composer to get a Bondian vibe or at least a movie-specific music vibe with the song. At least I think that's the case. Don't really care about the why anymore though.I just know I have no interest in ever hearing the song again, outside actual viewings of the film.
In future to avoid such calamity, I think it should be mandatory that the songwriter-singer collaborate with the film's music man - ie the way Barry and Hamlish, Conti etc worked with their artists.
And also that future Bond film directors, as long as they are not named Sam Mendes, be consulted as well.
Mendes as punishment for this should be locked in a room and forced to listen to Sam Smith's greatest hits on full blast loop for several hours.
Crime fits the punishment here, as I am really looking forward to SP, and over the course of my remaining hum-drum life expect to watch the movie probably at least 50x or more, so that's 50 friggin listens ahead of me. %-(
agreed. I thought SP was rather downbeat and quiet. we could use a little Barry brass fanfare, no?
It could use some more brass, smooth jazziness and a big dose of Bond theme here and there.
Note: "Skyfall" by Adele was not on the OST by Thomas Newman. A disclaimer actually had to be placed on the album's description.
That would be amusing if it happened.

'I want my dinner, now!'
Extra publicity, free marketing......wonderful. Pity the contents of it all is crap and shit :-).
I like the song even better now. Great music video.
Indeed, regarding those scenes...
I found it made the song more bearable. But maybe because I was enjoying the new footage so much, that it just became background noise.
Radiohead's "15 Step" was a Twilight song. Gulp.
New footage, I never had a problem with the song but hearing it juxtaposed with some awesome footage just made me like the song even more and more importantly....I think Mendes may just have achieved topping CR.
Can we talk about scenes from the video or do we keep it to the spoilers thread? I don't want to unintentionally screw anyone over.
Muse also did a Twilight song if I'm not mistaken. Problem is, their track sounded like a Muse track and this video made me feel like I was watching some MTV-style mush.
The trailers compared to this are like night and day. One is very clearly James Bond and the other.......is like Daniel Craig staring in Romance in Rome.
You are aware that love and romance plays a significantly huge role in the Bond mythology? As such, that's the aspect SS focused on, which whether anyone likes it or not, is as much as being completely Bondian as the AM or PPK or any other typical or cliché trope in the lore are.
I am absolutely...stunned. I can't type.
I also saw the music video to Sam Smith's "Writing's On The Wall". And while the song left 'us' with mixed feelings -it's certainly a 'grower'- the videoclip is absolutely incredibly good! It really focuses on the drama in "SPECTRE". And it WORKS! My god, I really felt touched by both Monica Bellucci's and Lea Séydoux's performances. A bruised Lucia Sciarra, who can barely walk with her whiskey. That little playfulness Madeleine Swann has towards 007 with that curtain in between is just....it really puts a smile on my face :-D! It's so incredible.
And then there's -again- Hoyte's cinematography. Absolutely breathtaking. You can...feel this energy from both cast and crew, basically screaming to all of us: "Fuck you! We. Made. The. Best. Bond. Film!" And it's not a cliché line anymore...My God, and it feels like 20 years until "SPECTRE" premieres! This is NOT going to be "SkyFall Part 2". This is going to be "SPECTRE"! Eat your heart out you wanna-be-Bond-franchises "Mission: Impossible", "Kingsman" and "Furious 7" :-)!
I think......we're all getting serious orgasms here. And cast and crew of "SPECTRE" are TOTALLY to blaim for that! 8-}
Casino Royale's had film footage too
