I still think it's really hard to be disappointed either way at the minute. We don't know the artist, we don't know the deal (are they writing/producing standalone?), we don't know the tempo, the sentiment etc. There's still reason to be optimistic. I don't see the point in pre-emptively hating something when we don't know the first thing about it.

Step back from the ledge, folks. Ellie Goulding would be just fine.

I think most people are looking for something that would be just awesome. We shall wait and see.

I said if it's her, to be honest outside of The Arctics and wild card rumour of Depeche Mode all the choices have been truly dull and predictable.

Typical we get what could be one of the best Bond film ever but all likelihood the theme won't be fit to licks it's boots.

I guess it makes sense some the toss that Connery & Moore put out and got gold afforded them, Daniel delivers the most committed Bond of the series and he gets this guff.

I seriously hope it's not true but I'm getting used to being disappointed what with the news of Hannibal (my favourite show on TV at the moment) all likely not getting a 4th Season because it can't appeal to the masses.

It seems that they are really out to get you.

That said Craig got the best themesong since Aha with his last movie as 007, so do not complain as it is the only one that ever won an Oscar when earlier tunes should have won them. But I guess Cubby had a better sense of what worked and probably listened and trusted John Barry.

Whether it won an Oscar or not it doesn't really live outside the credits as a great song, it's fine with them but Cornell & Arnold's YKMN was much better and the best since TLD in my view.

Some might accept substandard just look at TND, TWINE & DAD but I hope for more, as good as the Barry era, not a chance but they could at least aspire to it in some way.

Well, sorry to say this, but I definately think "Skyfall" was the best Bond song in the Craig era so far. I especially liked the ballad-esque slow-tempo of the song. It reminded me a bit of YOLT, MR and DAF, but it was still very much an Adele entry.

SF worked OK with the film, and could have been far worse. But in comparison to some of the great Bond theme songs, it did not deserve an Oscar, but then again, since when do Oscars usually go to the deserving.

What so bugs me about these potential names is why is it so hard to get a singer or band that is both popular AND good. Smith has no track record other than one hit and his appeal is mostly to kids while Bond films appeal to mostly adults. I do think it will be Smith who is being "cute" about deflecting the gossip.

This would be my Bond song! Magnificent she is, especially 'live' with full-blown orchestral support:

Ooh, no. YKMN is definitely the best of the era. I remember when the first sample leaked people thought it was a remix. It was only once the full track was revealed that people realised that it was the actual theme. What was great was watching people switch from a state of confusion to realisation that, 'fuck, this is new-era Bond'. It's definitely up there with something like NDIB, a mould breaker that pushes the Bond sound. SF sounded like a Bond tune from the off.

For me, it comes down to the song. I mean, not even Paul McCartney could have saved "All Time High" or "For Your Eyes Only." Likewise, few singers could have ruined "A View to a Kill" or "Live and Let Die."

If the song is good, Ellie will work out great.

Do you have any stats to back this up? I can't speak for the US, but you don't sell 1m copies of a single album in the UK without a substantial amount of adults purchasing it.

What kind/type of song would you like to see for "SPECTRE"? You have a few Youtube examples?

I have no examples, because I don't want it to sound like anything else. It's not my job to come up with a song, that's why one of these artists will be paid a small fortune to do so. I just want something kick ass. If I was put on the spot I'd essentially like something with the class of DAF, the adrenaline of OHMSS and a euphoric vocal.

Many untalented recording artists have sold 1m copies of a record and one hit record should not result in a Bond title gig. I just think a Bond theme is a major coup for a recording act, and it should go to a proven, deserving talent. I don't think one hit record is a proven talent by a long shot.

But, if it is Smith, and if it is a great title song, I promise to be one of the first ones on a related thread to say "uncle."

I was merely stating that 1m sales suggests his appeal is way beyond just 'kids', as you implied.

I agree with the posters above me, I don't understand why people are bashing Goulding. She could make a fantastic theme in the right direction. Not all of her songs are pop-ish either, just listen to her album Halcyon. I don't even think she's an obvious choice, she'd be quite interesting and I trust in EON that if they did pick her, they did so with confidence.

Secondly, I don't see why EON has to be so secretive about it. There is a huge buzz surrounding her singing the theme, it's all part of their marketing (even if it turns out not to be true).

    Be open minded, people.

I guess the bottom line is the song itself. If it is a good song, that works for the film, then I guess most of us will just be happy that it will help sell the film, which SF certainly did. Have no clue about this, but maybe EON requires that acts submit their proposed song, and that might play a major role in EON's selection process and maybe that early look determines the winner of the Bond song sweepstakes. If so, I don't know how the QOS theme figured in this process. Some posters likely know how the selection process works and can post about it.

As for stats @RC7, I haven't a clue. I'm just guessing that Smith's appeal is mostly to teenagers and young adults.

Kind of. If you Google goulding bond, you get a bunch of articles.

If the Ellie Goulding thing holds water, I think it will be a mistake. Never heard of her before and the music selections posted in this thread were very underwhelming. Sam Smith would be a much more reliable choice.

Then again, @SaintMark said it best. Craig has had amazing title songs during his run and it's not really our place to scrutinize the pick. This is a matter that dictates its own result. They make a good move and it will benefit the SPECTRE campaign and if it is a bad one, it will hurt the bottom line in some way. We'll be going to see it regardless. It's all of the casual fans and non-fans that it will have the biggest impact on.

If it is Ellie Goulding, she's about the same size as Lulu and she cracked out a good tune, with the man with the golden gun.

Oh well I guess we will hear if it is Ellie Goulding on the 23rd when the 2min 30 trailer is released.

I doubt they would drop the trailer and the title song performer on the same day. I still think we have a ways to wait before the performer is announced.

You'd think so. Adele wasn't announced until October.

Brilliant news if true. Also I hope the gun barrel remains at the end!

Oh god, I hope not. I have been wanting the gun barrel at the beginning ever since casino royale. I think it deserves to be at the front now. Its more thrilling when it opens the films. I've heard it is, too.

And for Ellie Goulding, she doesn't have enough of a powerful voice like Adel

I read that as sarcasm on @LeChiffre's part....

You read it correctly mcdonbb re: the gunbarrel! But I much prefer Ellie Goulding to any male singer for the theme tune.

    That´s exactly what I thought
