@Some_Kind_Of_Hero, off the top of my head, Craig wears one on the boat toward the end of CR. He also has one under his cardigan in the same film, when Mathis calls the phone in Le Chiffre's trunk.
  • Good catches there, both. He also wears a T under a jacket during the Miami airport scene. But apart from wearing it as part of ensemble, which I don't see a problem with, there's just the Venice boat scene. Nice summery day. He's out with his girl on a boat. I suppose he could have just as easily been wearing a polo, but at least it's a somewhat stylish T.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of his polo shirts?

    Those weren't T-shirts.
Bond wears a T in the DAD PTS.

He also has that torn one in DR NO as he's crawling thru the heating ventilation tunnel.

Those are both cases where Bond had been stripped to his undershirt by the enemy and was meant to appear ragged. I'm still struggling to think of any instance where Bond wears a T-shirt as a style choice.
I'm actually talking about his outfit he's in disguise of as Van Bierk.

You mean his jacket on top of a jacket on top of a button-down? Well, yes, apparently he is wearing a charcoal crewneck beneath those three layers. ;)

Nope, he should be in a tuxedo!

John Cleese's Q was a great Q! Didn't bother me when he was a bit too comical as R in TWINE, but did nobody bat an eye when that was a regularity in Q's lab since GoldenEye? That phone booth explosion in GE wasn't that different from R's getting caught in that balloon jacket.

I'd take Cleese's Q over Wishaw's Q any day, over the course of repetitive gazillion years.

I wouldn't disagree with this, especially if they're taking Whishaw's Q down the path of a 'techno geek with stickers on his laptop' route. The kids would have thought it was k00l.

Whishaw's Q is predictable no doubt, in an age of geeks, 24 & MI.

I think the best 'Q' of the recent past was the Bat's Lucius Fox. The spiritual successor to Llewelyn imho.

Yes, but Q isn't what Wishaw's character represents. A computer geek isn't a quartermaster material. He's at best a computer technician and that's about it. A computer expert in Q-Branch. Q himself is the one overseeing the management and development of all the material his lackeys do in their respective posts. If anything, especially if we're looking at the Major Boothroyd type, Ian McShane would be terrific as that sort of Q. If not that, the more crazed scientist type Q would be better off to the likes of Peter Capaldi.

I agree. A McShane type would be excellent.

An area where SF let me down was in the 24 'Chloe' style antics between Q and Bond while Bond was down in the Tube.

Agreed. That's more like the job of a missions handler. Since when Q is to escort Bond via an earpiece through some maps and whatnot? We get in it video games sometimes Tanner has to interfere and say a thing or two regarding the mission tasks, but for that sort of thing, field operations like that have their own personnel, if we're not taking about the IMF types, but the solo agents going in while receiving guidance from someone in their earpiece. Q is the artillery supervisor and should only handle these matters.
  • I think part of the reason they cast such a young actor as Q is to have another long tenured actor in the part like Llewelyn.

Unlike Llewelyn, however, Wishaw is a higher profile actor who appeared in some big name gigs, hence he won't be the next Desmond, just as Harris won't be the next Lois Maxwell, or Ralph Fiennes the next Bernard Lee. For that to achieve, they have to find unknown actors who would endure devoting their careers to long lasting tenure in playing the same character for three decades, or who knows maybe four.

All in all, I wouldn't want to see Wishaw as Q. Another character maybe. But, not Q.

The current Bill Tanner, Moneypenny or Q. Sack them all.

I like Fiennes as M. But IMO the rest of the staff are all miscast.

I'd get rid of them all. Except for Fiennes who I believe deserves a chance.

    I wouldn't mind.
  • Fiennes showed great M potential in SF. Not sure what happened with SP. Harris has been fine so far. Could be better, could be much worse. Wishaw has been doing well with the comedic moments in my opinion. It would be nice to see someone play Q for decades like Desmond. Wishaw could definitely grow in the part through different 007s.

Wishaw is too high profile to go playing a beyond secondary role for decades. And being that high profile, you wouldn't want his Q to keep joining the agents in the field, do you? Because neither Wishaw nor Harris will accept the limited screentime where they only appear in their posts and desks.

When you consider that the original Q was an arms expert who, you assume, has worked up their expertise over decades. They have expanded the workload of Q to include IT and its a completely different world. In the era of cyber terrorism, it makes sense to have an expert in this area (when required) but to bundle it with other areas of expertise is lazy IMHO

Fiennes should absolutely continue on as M. If they could justify keeping Dench on despite the reboot, then Fiennes should be able to continue on when they change actors.

I had major reservations about Wishaw as Q after Skyfall, but found him to be much better in Spectre. I'd be willing to give him another chance to establish where that character is going, although hopefully it would be done with much less screentime.

Moneypenny and Tanner should be recast, though, or just not used in the films again for a while. Harris is not well cast in the role, which is evident now after two films, and Kinnear's underplaying of Tanner has brought the pace of the films he's been in to a grinding halt whenever the character is on screen. Both are good actors, there's no question, but they're either miscast in the part or being given horrible direction with regards to how to play the characters.

Desmond Llewelyn went through a number of personality changes as Q over the years—from down-to-business professional in FRWL to exasperated and snippy in TMWTGG to warm and joking in GE. Wishaw could go through any number of iterations as Q. But yes, I fully agree on more limited screen time. It should be an event when one of the MI6 staff is featured more prominently (like Q in LTK or M in TWINE), not business as usual.

I just find it hard to believe Fiennes is going to want to do the part for that long. I have a feeling that if Craig goes, he goes. Hope I'm wrong.
