Another fantastic article on prepping the cars for the Rome chase. But do be warned, there are spoilers ahead.
I have to agree. I normally love the shape of the Aston's, but I really don't like the shape of the DB10, or the interior leather straps.
Aston Martin DB10 is a GREAT addition to Chinese state visit
Ahead of its imminent debut in the forthcoming James Bond film, Spectre, the Aston Martin DB10 has today taken pride of place outside London’s Lancaster House – the venue for a meeting between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and visiting Chinese President Mr Xi Jinping.
The luxury British sports car – built exclusively for Bond and limited to just ten examples – was on show as part of Aston Martin’s ongoing support for the British government’s successful GREAT Britain campaign, which showcases the best of what the UK has to offer to inspire the world and encourage people to visit, do business, invest and study in the UK.
Their Royal Highnesses Prince William, Duke of Cambridge; Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and President of The People’s Republic of China, Mr Xi Jinping, were at Lancaster House for a creative summit hosted by the government’s UK Trade & Investment department (UKTI) as part of the President’s three-day State visit to Great Britain.
Aston Martin is a key supporter of UKTI’s GREAT initiative, and has provided examples of its luxury sports cars for display at a number of the campaign’s functions around the world.
CEO of Aston Martin, Dr Andy Palmer, said: “I’m naturally very happy to see Aston Martin playing such a prominent role in today’s events at Lancaster House, supporting the GREAT Britain initiative through the display of the DB10 built for Spectre.”
When it came to updating 007’s signature car for Spectre, Sam Mendes knew what he wanted — and more precisely, what he didn’t want.
The filmmaker worked closely with venerable British luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin to design the sleek DB10 that Daniel Craig drives in the movie. And Mendes’ less-is-more aesthetic dictated certain innovations to V12 coupe’s sculptured look. “Astonishingly, they allowed me to do it!” Mendes says. “I saw it when it was a clay model form and I asked them to remove a lot of detailing. I wanted a very simple, classic shape. They went, ‘Okay.’”
For the director, eliminating superfluous detail was key in contrasting the Aston-Martin’s subdued elegance to the Jaguar’s aggressive, Formula 1-esque styling. His first request: a less ostentatious grille. “I wanted a simpler line,” Mendes explains. “I wanted it to feel timeless. It’s in direct competition with a Jaguar that’s a real proper growling supercar with the gull-wing doors and all that. While the Aston Martin is a real gentleman’s car.”
Mendes’ design upgrades to the DB10 aside, Spectre FX specialists extensively retrofitted the cars to meet the unique demands of a James Bond car chase. “A lot of our early development of the Aston Martins and the Jags was jumping them, adjusting the suspension and shock absorbers so they don’t just fold up,” says Corbould, who ran the vehicles through 60-foot horizontal jumps during pre-production. “We built pods on top of the cars so we could have a stunt driver on the roof. So it made it look like the actors were doing the high-speed driving.”

Alternate opening to QOS???
:D
Primed and ready for action – here’s a new shot of #DB10 from the #SPECTRE film set.
" lovely craft, such lovely lines " :D
so much lighter, then the other Astons, looks more agile, and manoeuvrable.
I also love the Lotus, like many I had several posters of it on my walls as a
Teen. :)
I think I hate the Z3 from GoldenEye the most, just because they hyped up the gadgets and then didn't show it (why did they cut it out lol). At least the Turbo destruction scene was funny.
I think the BMW deal came quite late in Goldeneye's production, hence why there's not a car chase.
The in-build "Atmosphere" button is bloody great.
Also it can be parked
The emptiness of Rome was hard to understand, it is always crazy traffic there. It felt all very unreal.
I think the whole reason it was a bit of a slow chase was because the cars were prototypes and the streets of Rome are very narrow. It was late at night too, which may explain the lack of traffic.
