I'm currently watching the first season of Kojak on DVD for the first time so I thought that it might be fun to follow up on 'The Columbo Discussion Thread' with one on Lt Theo Kojak, as played by Telly Savalas in the original series that ran from 1973 to 1978 (and later Ving Rhames in the 2005 remake which lasted for one season).

So are there any Kojak fans in hiding here on MI6 Community?

    Great TV show which I loved to watch also. Many fun times growing up at home watching this show! :-bd

    Savalas did a lot of films, but not many that were memorable. Aside from OHMSS, I enjoyed his performance as Maggott in The Dirty Dozen. Kojak was never one of my favorite series, but I didn't mind watching it if it happened to be on.

    Just bought Season 2 of Kojak as well. Watched the last of the 25 episodes first, 'I Want to Report a Dream', as it guest starred Columbo actress Ruth Gordon as a psychic who reports a dream she had of a murder. She'a a great actress who played Abigail Mitchell in Columbo: Try and Catch Me (1977).

    In the 70s, "Kojak" was a much used nickname for any bald guy.

    Here in Chile, lollipops are called kojaks. I bet most of the youngsters here don't even know the origin of the term.

    Yep it’s Jerry Reed (The Snowman) radioing ahead to Burt Reynolds (The Bandit) to warn him of a state trooper ahead with a radar gun - a Kojak with a Kodak! :)
