You know, I've just realised how you can kinda see where the series in headed by the last entry of the previous tenure, if that makes sense. In DAF you can see the silliness and humour being cranked up for the Moore era. In AVTAK there's that tense, violent, dark streak which would define Daltons duo, and in LTK there's that American flavour that would continue through Brosnan's run. Even DAD has that introspective first half an hour with a deeper examination of the character, echoing what was to come with the reboot.
That is an insightful observation. I agree and would go farther to state that DAD brought up the 'trust issues' with Dench's M which continued directly into CR, albeit in a rookie Bond context. I noticed it on a recent viewing.

I thought they tried to do a transition with SP to be honest, which adopted a more 'formulaic' and arguably 'lighter' Bond template. Unfortunately such transition was muddled and tonally incoherent at times, at least in my estimation, which is a shame. I can't see a transition to something even lighter with Craig in the saddle for B25, and that is why I remain a bit perplexed about how they will proceed for the next film, which is likely to be a 'stub' outing.

Unless they have decided to double down on Craig angst to close out his chapter as a self contained period before a more substantial change, which is also a possibility. If so, we can blame Logan for that.

@Mendes4Lyfe Very good points, I'll be sure to keep an eye out when Bond 25 finally comes around for any clues it may offer as to where the direction of the series will head to when they make the transition.

Some members on this thread I've noticed have pointed out that MGM would not have paid so much money for the rights to SPECTRE and Blofeld to only have them return for the one outing and therefore Bond 25 will likely be a continuation of the story laid out in SP. I was wondering does anyone know exactly how much MGM paid for the rights from the McClory estate or is it just a natural assumption that the law suit and settlement must have cost them a substantial amount? I'm curious to this as I'm trying to gauge how likely it is that Bond 25 will follow on from SP as I tend to think its more likely it will actually be quite different from what we got last time.

I am pretty sure this was already set to happen. However could it also be a sign of something more.

Nothing new here. Various Bond films are constantly streaming on Amazon Prime.

A lot of people will think I am crazy for even suggesting this but narcos on Netflix was amazing. It’s crazy to see a series that good for a tv show. Each episode was around an hour. I would love to see a series where we get different big name directors who come in and direct two episodes. They can cast anyone to be Bond and if they wanted a 60s retro film they could do it.

Just imagine seeing a ton of big name directors casting actors like Aiden Turner, Hiddleston, Hardy, etc and doing their own take on Bond. That’d be amazing. It would make Bond popular again and more mainstream. Unfortunately James Bond just isn’t the same anymore popularity wise. Sure Skyfall grossed $1B and Spectre got close to it but is Bond really on the same level from the 60s-90s?? It’s really lost it’s touch. I have a weird feeling the next actor will totally bomb.

I know most people want Bond in theaters being released every 3-4 years but I am losing hope a little. Each film goes further and further away from the typical Bond formula and it gets more and more personal. I really don’t want a Bond origin story or backstory. We know who he is. Just give us a Bond movie.

I am guessing whoever the next Bond is, he will be someone that’s most likely already been suggested. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a semi big name.

I like your idea a lot, not least because it would give us fans different interpretations which we could hold onto depending on how we view the Bond franchise. As an example, I'd love to see Hiddleston's take on Bond, just as I'm sure there are other members who would be excited to see Hardy or Turner. Given the way things are changing and moving these days I'd rather not have another actor sitting in the seat for 13+ years. It's rather a long time. As you said, this approach can allow them to take more risks with the franchise without being boxed in as well. I very much doubt it will happen, but it's a neat idea nonetheless.

EON appear not to have received the memo.

I think you could be right.

That would be unexpected and perhaps a chance at a standalone after all.

But what is he saying at the end of the clip? “I’m really sad but that’s the tradition if there is a new...”

Although I didn't like Waltz's portrayal, I can't believe that he's not coming back. They forced him to be the "author" of James' pain, and; now they're bringing Craig back for his last to do, what? His first, "official" standalone (since SF can no longer be considered a standalone now, but retroactively, part of an arc)?

    It makes no sense.

I wonder if Waltz has been told he's not back, or, if he just hasn't heard from the producers.

Or, will SP be taken over by a new Head (Monica Bellucci)?

YESSSS! NO Blofeld! NO YOLT adaptation! NO direct sequel! I have been telling you for months that Blofeld is very unlikely to return, but you were not listening!

    This is seriously excellent news!

He is quite firmly in saying he is not returning. I think that if he hasn't heard of the producers he would have answered differently.

But I agree, it makes little sense and is not what I expected. I'm not sad about it.

no, neither am. He put in what felt like such a half-assed effort like he didn't give a damn. He had a contract. Said his lines (albeit what they gave him wasn't very exciting, but still, he's an actor-- fake enthusiasm, FAKE IT!!), and went on with his life, only remembering he was in a Bond film when they called him to do some promotional duties and premieres, lol...

You know I heard from some friends on SP that Waltz was difficult and we know he clashed with Mendes. Eon don't mess about. It's possible Blofeld is back, but being played by another actor. Waltz says they have a tradition to change the "villain?" - well they do have a tradition of re-casting Blofeld from film to film. That might explain why he seems vaguely pissed off he's not back. Just a theory.

@ColonelSun You are right, it is possible that Blofeld will be played by a different actor in B25, but I'm sure you agree that Blofeld's return seems far less likely today than it did yesterday.

    @ClarkDevlin Thanks!

Been ages since I woke up and turned on the computer to some decent news. TBH, by comparison with the other Blofeld actors (Max Von Sydow included) I tend to overlook that Waltz also played Blofeld. Maybe B25 will end up with a solid villain this time.

Yes, I agree. The rumour about them wanting to take Bond in a new direction for Craig's last bow may be accurate - they may have some surprises in store for us.

Extremely disappointed that it won't be a YOLT adaptation, but at this point I'm more concerned with them making a great Bond film. Waltz seems genuinely disappointed in that interview.

Feel a bit bad for Waltz, he deserved better than what he got to work with in SP and I believe he still could've really brought something special if he was given another chance with the right material. I am pleased with this news though, the less Bond 25 has in common with SP, the better chance there is of Craig really going out on a high imo.

Also I would say there is practically no chance of them immediately recasting Blofeld for Bond 25, there's no real need to and its harder to get away with in this day and age. Maybe with the next Bond they will eventually bring the character back but I dont think it will be for several years at the very least.

although I too am happy, for the above-stated reasons, I still find this highly odd that the DC era will now have four films that are supposedly connected, one, his send-off, as some stand alone... Doesn't seem to be following the pattern they've established.

So, @bondjames , I've got to assume that we are in for more surprises.

@peter, the best news for me will be no Seydoux.

We should keep a look out for the schedules of Scooby. That will be the real tell tale in terms of where they're headed.

Well, the good news about this revelation is EON appear to have paid attention to the market. The most telling comment was from P&W earlier in the year, namely that SP finished off a certain way of doing Bond. I'm now intrigued and interested again.
