    I don't want to see a Bond movie open without the gunbarrel or minus Bond as the focus of the pre-title action sequence.

    I also likely won't object to Bond using any model of Aston Martin automobile or Walther firearm (and would prefer he uses the PPK at some point in the mission).

    To me that's Bond being Bond. It's not game over without these items, but still.

    It still does. I can’t seriously grasp how they ever thought that was a good idea when people made fun of it with the Austin Powers movie to begin with.

    They went too far with the villain being “the man who knows [Bond] best.” It’s absurd. Even an ignorant teenager would’ve laughed at the idea.

    I am not sure, if the Bond movies will ever completely recover from it. My fear is that brothergate is going to get a running joke over generations for everybody, who wants to mock bond.

    I'm pretty sure it will be forgotten once they reboot (soft or hard). That's the great thing about Bond - like Batman they can afford a few major screwups from time to time. The trick is to move on from it (cleanse oneself), which is where I personally have a problem with recent announcements.

    Villeneuve has been dreaming about light in other worlds for his next project. “I’m working on the screenplay for Dune now and want to take time to dream about it, and I’m deeply happy to do that,” he says. “It’s a meditative process where you get in contact with the project. I sound esoteric but it’s how I see things. It’s close to the dream state. After all, cinema is close to the dream state — a bridge between reality and dreams.”

    Villeneuve would love to direct a James Bond film and work with the current 007. Then he mutters something about schedules and not being able to comment, adding cryptically: “I cannot be split in two, but I love Daniel Craig.” Cleopatra is a long shot, although he thinks Eric Roth’s script is “very strong”.

    It's interesting that Villeneuve has been commenting on Bond, but not vice versa. Just leaks from the Bond side. I would have assumed that he would have been told to just punt or deny.

    I recall him mentioning something about a month ago about having to think long and hard about it if he were to get involved because it's a franchise that is 'crystallized' in the public's mind.

    EDIT: We know they look for 'passion' and it's almost like an open audition. Interestingly we've heard nothing from either Demange or Mackenzie. Nothing at all.

    His favourite films are “Goldfinger,” “Thunderball,” “The Spy Who Loved Me,” and “Casino Royale” by the way, and the first one he saw was "The Man With The Golden Gun". Very encouraging as far as I'm concerned.

    They are almost boxed in with it now, particularly since it leaked that he was Craig's preference and it has been openly discussed in the media.

    They'd be under pressure to top him (from a brand recognition point of view) if they can't get him, and that's not easy to do.

    Ultimately it's going to come down to schedules as he's said. He has Dune to work on (which he's obviously very passionate about) and he won't want to either rush or sideline that project. That's what I take from his remarks.

    B25 is the first time (in history) that the creatives have gone in knowing it'll be the actor's last. If the infamous trend is broken, it's now. I'm not worried.

    I can imagine you getting man flu and hurriedly writing up your last will and testament for the impending, inescapable doom.
