This literally could all be a fallacy because we STILL know nothing regarding this film. I wish EoN would man up and do the fans some justice by giving a simple statement or something. Is that too much to ask for at this point?
If there's still a distribution deal or potential MGM acquisition in play they probably have all signed NDA's. I'm not saying that's the case, but it could explain the radio silence.

I get that, but NDAs or not they could at least tell us whether or not the film is still on track. Hell, we don’t even know if it is or not at this point.

I think we can only go with what we've been told officially. The last comments of this nature were at the MGM conference call, where two senior MGM honchos pretty much stated that it's still a go for 2019.

You think we can hit 10,000 pages before Bond 25 comes out? lol

If these rumors are true, I am disappointed. Boyle might be the wrong choice, not interested in a female sidekick lead or whatever, not interested in something lighter in tone than spectre, craig just can't do it it won't feel right to go out on that note. Not interested in it being set mainly in England. If anything the protege should be male

Meh. I can’t be disappointed with the given rumors if they are true. All depends on the execution like I said. Either way though a female villain would be great. We will still have a while to wait on official news. Cheer on Boyle to get through filming his current movie FAST!

Boyle was going to bring better quality humour regardless because he does humour far better than Mendes. I will take the lighter tone thing with a pinch of salt right now. we shall see.

The mentor thing sounds a bit lame to me but as others have said it could in theory be handled okay. I suppose I trust Boyle a bit more than Mendes not to totally screw up.

she's not a well known enough name but Keeley Hawes would make a great villainess and I think there would be chemistry with Craig.

She's getting on a bit, but I always felt she would make a decent MP.

Just noticed the title. Haha, well done. The only change I would suggest is to capitalize the "S" in 'salt' for emphasis.

I only hope the highly paid 'professionals' who come up with the writing for the next Bond film can exhibit such wit, because they failed on their last attempts imho.

Haha, I didn't even intend for it to be a reference to the 2010 film.

I would get a new actor in for cheaper.

She's a fine actress and would have been the best MP since Maxwell.

She pops up on BBC regularly enough - the last thing I saw her in was Line Of Duty, and she looked good as well as giving a good performance.

I don't mind Jolie at all. I don't mind Lily James, either. I don't mind Bond mentoring a younger agent (whether it's male or female).

What I mind is that they shift the central attention from Bond and to the highlighted female character, making the story all about her while having the 007 franchise hold the umbrella for her field. No thanks!

When I want to watch a James Bond film, here's the simple way of putting it:
I want to see a criminal mastermind as the villain, the world's safety at stake, and Bond on the other end of the rope pulling it for victory. What other characters do, whether they'd be allies, love interests or benefactors, scapegoats, assistants, helpers, are only there to help move the story forward. Supporting characters. Nothing else.

Jolie would make a great female villain or a femme fatale. Lily James, however, should be spared for the next Bond, either being a Loelia Ponsonby or a Gala Brand. I don't see her beyond these types of roles.

These rumours are very disheartening. This sort of plot sounds like it would be best suited to Mission Impossible or 24. Not Bond.
They dropped the ball with Spectre but I was hoping they could use B25 as a chance to redeem themselves. Give us Shatterhand. Make a proper Bond vs Blofeld sequel. They spent all of Craig's tenure building up that story (albeit somewhat retroactively) so why scrap it just as it was leading to some really interesting territory?

Also, what's with the rumoured Logan comparisons? Are they going to kill Bond off and replace him with this female field agent? Sadly I wouldn't be surprised.

I'd like to go on the record as hating the Bond-mentors-younger-agent idea, unless the younger agent and the mentoring are a small part of the film.

Agreed, especially considering Mission: Impossible already ran with this same plot idea of Ethan recruiting and mentoring a younger female agent.

Yes, but that was only a story element to lure Ethan out and back into the game. It doesn't seem to be the case with the next Bond film at all. The "real protagonist" will be that female agent, and Bond the Logan-type figure.

I am (still) hoping for Craig‘s Thunderball ... and hope B25 won‘t end up as his DAF

But if the series wants to distance itself from M:I, they shouldn't be using old plot devices that M:I has already used. It's why I hope it's mere rumor, as it's a bit ridiculous if this was the golden idea Boyle had.

I shudder to think that Boyle's golden idea is to line up all the pieces on the board for a female 007.

They're using The Last Jedi and Mad Max: Fury Road as plot devices, mate. ;)

Not sure what you mean by that, but considering M:I and James Bond are two rival action series, on top of how wildly, eerily similar parts of SP and Rogue Nation were, I'd like to avoid the comparisons by having something a bit more fresh.

What I meant was that they are paving the way in for the female hero and waving the male hero goodbye or putting him aside because of "cultural reasons". Fury Road only used the Mad Max brand name and told Furiosa's story by casting Max aside and making him the tertiary player. The Last Jedi... well... I'll leave that for the Star Wars experts to analyze.

If anything the protege should be male

    Um, why?

Honestly, only thing giving me pause is Jolie. I can see the sort of strong screen presence actress they're trying to go for and someone like Chastain would be perfect (although she's got 355 on the docket and she's probably sworn Bond off). But Jolie is too big.

The mentoring part? I'm in. I'm sure a lot of others will be also. Hasn't been done in a Bond movie, and of course the implication that said mentee would take up the 007 mantle following whatever fate meets Craig's Bond here - it's a logical move for a film that's supposedly written as 'Craig's equivalent of Logan'. Best thing about this - it's a twist on the usual 'co-lead Bond girl' by not making her be a traditional Bond girl/love interest at all.

I think what this comes down to is - if true, those moves are almost certainly to attract wider audiences, not the core core Bond fans. Bond isn't like Star Wars, Marvel and the like where more the casual audiences follow the story, the lore so closely as much as the core fans do. And I think - particularly with how Bond is viewed today in the current climate, which these moves (if true) are trying to adapt to - it's time to kinda move on from the expectations of tradition in every single way and let the franchise evolve.

Personally I don't mind the mentor leak if its similar to Camille and Bond's relationship in QOS.

Can't speak for TLJ as I couldn't even finish it, but it'll be a dark day when the series starts paving the way for a female to become Bond and take the lead. Stepbrothergate would pale in comparison to that.
