How would setting b25 in the 60s work?
  • edited July 2018 Posts: 17,756
She sounds a bit…boring to me. Nothing special. Boyle has already worked with Arctic Monkeys, which would be a more interesting pick, IMO.

It's time we get a rockin' theme song, delivered with a Sheffield accent!

If you head over to cashley's reddit account, he's now saying B25 will be a 60s period piece/one-off.

It's been hard following this guy up until now. There were some things he dropped that sounded about right.

Others I had not heard of but still sounded reasonable (if he is who he says it is, rumours can come fast and furious that contradict themselves in the film industry-- so I could buy his constantly evolving and developing, early in pre-production stories he was hearing).

This last one, though-- someone's either leading this guy down the garden path, and he's stupid enough to buy it, or now he's just running with anything he reads.

I would be fine with Dua Lipa performing the title song - she has the right type of voice for it.

If they set B25 in the 1960s that would be rather cool actually. But ... I am not sure the overall audience would think so, too?! Personally, having a 60s style Bond film starring my #2 Bond actor plus Wright as Felix would be nothing but awesome. A colourful TB or DN-style adventure without #whatever and all that nonsense ... I would 100% appreciate it. But ... would it be a box office magnet to the overall audience ?!

It wouldn't make a lot of sense to the average filmgoer, would it. The general audience go and see Bond to see him "today".

There's no strategic point, as a film-business model to put 007 back in time.

    Bond is here.

Alternate timelines, time travel, one-offs in a different universe work in a certain genre (sci-fi; X-Men, Star Trek), not Bond.

@peter Seriously, don't you realize he read it here and he's just trying to fool everyone? Or do you really think the fact he wrote the 60s rumor only two hours after I wrote it here is a coincidence?

What appeals most to me in regards to the 60s setting would be that they can put alot of that current Hashtag-Stuff aside and don‘t need to be PC. I don‘t see Craig as Bond smoking myself - but hell it could be a colourful adventure that could and would feel lighthearted. But - as said: I doubt the average moviegoers would like it that much - even there is no need at all to explain anything. Bond, James Bond is seen at the casino table playing Baccarat and we start from there. Cool and fine by me :-D

    +1
Also we are closest to a cold war scenario than we've ever been since the 80's.
To ignore all thats going on right now and simply put Bond back into the good ol' glory days of the 60's would be incredibly lame and misguided.

Espionage right now, is as important as ever. I am much more intrigued to see how Bond fits into all that.

I suppose setting B25 in the 60's would be a way to break the continuity and story arc/timeline of the Craig era.
In addition, it continues the trend of following other franchises by attempting a period piece a'la X-Men First Class.

This rumor, of course could be complete bull, and that wouldn't surprise me.
I do feel, though, with incredibly long gaps becoming more and more the norm, the time will come when a new Bond film would be set during the Cold War.
It's kind of like trying to bring back Philip Marlowe on the screen and not have it set during the '40's noir period.

It's not even a rumor, it's just something I said as a joke and CashleyPersia decided to make a reddit thread out of it :))

@Walecs , I didn’t realize you wrote anything today, but this 60s timeline has been kicked around here and other places for a very long time. It’s always been seen as ridiculous for most fans. And that’s why I said cashley is either stupid enough to have taken the bait, or he’s running with anything he’s been reading.

The return of a former Bond. Let's mention Dalton or Brosnan meeting EON recently several times until CashleyPersia creates a thread on Reddit.

Oooh! Brosnan back for the film he should have got? I'd like that!
Maybe the only way Boyle's "idea" could work would be for a former Bond to return?

Edit: that's a bit NSNA like, only without the competing Bond film.

Basically Boyle will do what Tamahori was going to do in DAD (with Brosnan meeting Connery).

At some point Craig's Bond is "mentally depressed" and feels lost, so he asks the help of previous Bonds (confirming the codename theory is true) and Dalton and Brosnan eventually team up with Craig to form the ultimate Scooby gang and face the new villains together.

According to my friends in the industry EON is in talks with Roger Moore's estate because they would like to digitally recreate him as well.

He seems to have caved in at this point. Good, that's over. Now we can drop all the female protege bs and get back to being excited for this film.

Some more details in the casting call to think about:

    Female Leading Role
    Playing age: 30 - 45
Russian. (Also open to suggestions of actresses from the Balkans or similar) Must speak fluent English.
Very Striking. Strong Physical / fighting / stage combat skills required.
Characteristics: Intelligent, brave, fierce and charming. She's witty and skillful. A survivor.

Could it be that Craig will get to fight her? i would love to see that.
It's not going to be Jolie, thats for sure.

All the three villains so far sound like classic Bondian archetypes, and that should hopefully put concerns to rest that this movie will be some overly depressing small scale drama.
So far this is shaping up to be a fun ride.
    Why is that not Jolie?
Jolie is not from Russia or the Balkans, and I can't imagine there would be any major villain roles beyond the three revealed here.

Of course, there's still the possiblity of Jolie playing a Bond girl part. But since this role is described as the "leading female", it would seem bizarre to cast Jolie in a smaller part.

But she can play a Russian though right?
Dude, the call very explicitly states that they're looking for Russian actors.

The film starts with Bond in the present day, but he gets a head injury in the PTS which makes him believe he's in the 60s - allowing the remainder of the film to be a period piece ;)
