Music in a Bond film is almost as critical as casting the right leading actor. Music is just so critical in making these films more and SP really doo-doo'd the sheets.
Although I really liked Adele's Skyfall. Really.
....right?
"I really don't think they'd do that" is not a frase I use anymore.
Dame Bassey's effort was far better than what they finally chose imho. I can understand them wanting a slightly harder toned song to compliment Craig's visceral toughness in that film, but the rejected theme seemed more Bondian to me.
One concern I have is the relatively tight timeline that these people give the composer to work within. Even Barry complained about this in the past, and now with the director change it's likely to be even more compressed at the end. With the creative aspects of music, more time generally should lend itself to something better and balanced.
There’s a lot of good stuff in Spectre.
I agree. I honestly would like to see Christoph Waltz come back. Just don't mention their step brothers, more acting effort put in by Waltz, and he can be the modern day Blofeld. Waltz originally said he would come back if Daniel Craig did. Also, he said a lot of things that weren't true for SPECTRE. Considering his talent, and role as Blofeld, he deserves a second chance.
I think Bond 25 was only going to be a stand alone due to Boyle/Hodge story. P & W story could be a follow up from spectre
I can see a fourth screenwriter trying to bring the two scripts together. I won't be opposed to that. Also, I feel that there will still be a connection to DC's previous films, in particular the fact that this is NOW (apparently), his last movie.
I can’t help but feel like they came to this thread first...
It could be, but from what I understand they like the premisse of Boyle's script and would keep it? Unless Shatterhand is merely the title for the P&W script, not Boyle's and the media are confusing the two.
Weak tbh. On the other hand I can't bealive that they have turned down this masterpiece.
Agreed. I can see why people loathe Smith's vocals, but the song itself is actually pretty good.
Had they used an instrumental version like this, it would have been a memorable title song.
It really should have been a instrumental song like OHMSS. Sam Smith didn't deserve his Oscar.
While we're at it, bring back Jeffery Wright as Felix Leiter. He makes everything better, he should be fighting alongside Daniel Craig, in action scenes. He’s the best Felix along with Jack Lord.

A long shot, but I want it!
Same! But I doubt an instrumental will have the same commercial effect as a theme song with a contemporary artist or band.

Thinking of this scenario I’m reminded of the whole McClory debacle. Didn’t he and Fleming and some other writers sit down and come up with some idea (not even a finished script I’m sure) and then when they tried to use those ideas for TB without giving proper credit to McClory he made a major stink about it, even though he wasn’t even part of the film production? Eventually of course they not only had to relent and make him part of the film production but had to let him produce the film. And all he did was come up with some small idea, unlike Hodge who I’m sure came up with much more.
The titles song was just horrendous - can't stand Sam Smith (is that his name?) bloody awful voice [imho], the rest of the score didn't offend or delight and parts of the film were good but it should have been a stand alone offering, not trying to link all of Craig's films together, that was a huge wrong step. Let's hope 'Shatterhand' (a title I've championing for the last 3/4 years) has a decent singer for the theme [Tom Jones, please].
I can tolerate WotW while watching it as part of the film, but that's the only time. It's quite bad otherwise.
1. I think McClory was the producer. He definitely was part of the project.
2. They had completed scripts. I read one of them, a first draft Jack Whittingham did that was completed in early 1960. I know there were others.
