That’s either a good sign, or a bad sign. I can’t determine which.

Lemme just say, if this is gonna be a 'Bond dies' film, or a 'Bond's girl gets killed- this time it's personal' movie, I'm out. But I really don't think they'd do that.
    ....right?

I still think this is the likely fate for Madeleine Swann.

This all makes sense and sounds pretty great, frankly.

If they go with P&W's script, we get the YOLT adaptation that many of us have wanted for years. (The garden of death, the question room, Kissy Suzuki's name mentioned onscreen?, Bond and Blofeld in a final and decisive confrontation?).

If they go with Hodge's script, we get something fresh and new.

Or maybe they'll combine the two (YOLT *is* a bit light on story) and we'll get the best of both worlds...

Perhaps they can get Paul Haggis back on the job. Pay him whatever he wants. The money is better spent on script than on the biggest explosion in cinema or whatever.
Why are people still mentioning John Hodge’s script? Wasn’t it confirmed that Hodge is out along with Boyle? You can’t have a writer leave and then just go ahead and use his ideas. I’m sure that’s illegal and grounds for a lawsuit just begging to happen.
Eon may own the script; I think I’ve read they do. I sure someone around here knows.

EoN paid Hodge for his script, it’s forever, in perpetuity, owned by EoN.

And they can now do anything with this script.
It doesn’t make sense then when they say that John Hodge exited the project, along with Boyle. If he exited then to me that either means he takes his script with him or he exited before finishing the script. If it’s the latter and they decide to have P&W finish Hodge’s script then obviously they have to give Hodge credit in the finished film, otherwise it’s a case of stealing someone’s work and not acknowledging their contribution.

Thinking of this scenario I’m reminded of the whole McClory debacle. Didn’t he and Fleming and some other writers sit down and come up with some idea (not even a finished script I’m sure) and then when they tried to use those ideas for TB without giving proper credit to McClory he made a major stink about it, even though he wasn’t even part of the film production? Eventually of course they not only had to relent and make him part of the film production but had to let him produce the film. And all he did was come up with some small idea, unlike Hodge who I’m sure came up with much more.

You're misunderstanding the situation. Hodge was Eon's employee, and the announcement is that he is not their employee any longer. They own his script because he wrote it for them.

McClory is a totally different situation. Fleming collaborated with the others then went out and wrote a novel on his own. It was never an employer-employee relationship.

Let's hope that there is no Madeleine in this one; or any reference to SP. Remember, SHATTERHAND was the working title for TND as well. It is probably a red herring.

"Red Herring" is a good working title for the next one.

I'd put money on Shatterhand not being the final title even if they do go for a YOLT adaptation.

Surely if they are going for YOLT there'd be news that Waltz was back on board?

I just hope its all making a lot more sense to EON right now.

I find it odd that other than the big casting fallout, we haven't heard anything about casting. Minor things from Waltz and Bautista, that's it. At this point, we don't even know if Ralph Fiennes will be back as M.

I highly doubt a YOLT adaptation was ever in the cards, as Waltz confirmed he wasn't going to be involved while the P&W draft was being written.

Still holding out hope for The Property of a Lady or Risico. Shatterhand probably is just a temporary placeholder.

I'd go with THE PROPERTY OF A LADY, then follow it up with RISICO. I like THE HILDEBRAND RARITY as well.

Just because Waltz might not return does not automatically mean Blofeld will not.

I think Waltz with a better script and different direction could deliver a strong performance.

Usually the placeholder is Bond 23, Bond 24, or whatever. That's why Shatterhand is a curious detail.

Don’t forget Blofled changes his looks through out the books so a new actor could play blofeld

This may not be as eye-catching as the Mirror or Sun's reporting, but this sounds like the most likely scenario playing out at the moment: it's business as usual.
Business as usual? Are you kidding me? Remind me, when was the last time the director of a Bond movie left the production just months before filming was supposed to begin?

How much is EON paying you for these comments?

I'm open for a Blofeld return if written correctly, but I don't see Waltz coming back. We all know that he wasn't completely happy with his performance* etc etc but things change. Who knows, they could also recast. McQuarrie brought back Solomon Lane successfully in Fallout, let's wait and see. We don't even know if the film will come out next year.

To be honest I'd prefer a more standalone adventure and the only character that I really want to come back in a Craig 007 is Wright's Felix. It would be nice to have also Fiennes, Harris and Whishaw back, but in significantly smaller roles than the last two outings.

This. If Blofeld returns, I would expect a new actor and not many references to SP.

I think it was how everything was written, and him having to lie about everything that he did. He probably doesn’t want to look like a hypocrite. He still deserves a second chance, with better material.

Yeah, no need to downplay events. This was a big thing to go wrong, so much is uncertain right now, like whether we will be getting Bond 25 this decade or next. Certainly not business as usual, anyway.

Denying that you're playing a certain character is very different from denying your involvement altogether.

It most certainly does. If the film is a follow up to SP then they 100% won't recast.

True, but if I recall correctly YOLT's Blofeld is the same OHMSS's Blofeld. He only changes his hair and he's bulkier. In fact, Bond recognizes him in a picture. Correct me if I'm wrong.

BTW a recast is not the end of the world. But after Spectre, where they tied up all Craig's movies plus the brother angle, it would have been weird to see Blofeld played by a new actor. At least to me.

SP, though successful, was a 25% drop in return from SF. I doubt that they will be revisiting that scenario. Lower returns almost always equal big change with EON (OHMSS to DAF, LTK to GE).

I doubt Blofeld / SPECTRE will return. Just saying, in the off chance that they do, I don't think Waltz would return, or much of the SP film would be that involved. I'm fairly confident we will get a more standalone-type outing like CR or SF (they still can count as standalones too - just ignore the dumb SP retconning).

It's not like the Craig era is one continuous arc as opposed to individual stand-alones...
