Rarely, in fact.
Might be that EON just want to do all the casting decisions themselves, and that the director they hire will just have to work with what he gets…?
That's not one of the things that's way up on my list of SP issues, to be honest. What I've never understood though, is the point with driving gloves in general (unless you're a race car driver or something).
Skyfall would have been a good finale for Craig.
Spectre would have been a good finale for Craig. They're all really organized that way so far.
Predictions:
BOND 25 will be a good finale for Craig.
BOND 26 will be a good finale for Craig.
Regarding dislike for Craig Bond with driving gloves, in a white dinner jacket, or driving a DB5: I don't have those limitations. They can do all those in the next one, fine with me.

The article states that filming was originally scheduled to begin in December but it is now expected to commence in January. It seems the plan is still to stick to 2019.
Also, despite the large festival presence, Yann Demange's latest film is getting tepid to poor reviews:

I assume he may not be the 'frontrunner' we expected.
Protects the steering wheel how? Stupid question, but I have to ask.
The thought of having any fabric between the hands and the steering wheel feels uncomfortable to me. It mirrors my preference in shoes when driving, come to think of it. I usually prefer shoes with a thinner sole, just to get a better feel of the pedals.
I see. I can see the issue with hand oils against wood/leather steering wheels. I drive a Honda myself with a plastic steering wheel, so the need for driving gloves aren't necessarily there at all. All I know is I would feel uncomfortable doing so!
What British unknowns are likely candidates?
Could demange be too busy with love craft to do bond 25?
A. They have a director already locked down, just waiting for a good time to announce.
B. They have someone in negotiations, will soon be a done deal.
C. They have a shortlist of names which they are pursuing with interest from candidates.
D. They are still searching for candidates.
I think A or B, myself. They could at least had someone in negotiations at the time the Boyle announcement was released, and the continued casting rumours could lead us to believe that too. Only speculation of course, but it wouldn't surprise me if EON got things a lot more covered than many here thinks.
I don't recall anyone going nuts about him or saying that he was special. He was on their list on account of his flick '71, which was a very sharply directed, tension filled piece of work. On the surface, there's nothing particularly special. He's just a fresh face who happens to have a very efficient directing style, and is classed as an up-and-comer. We could do with a bit of that energy, I think.
