If he's not careful the knives will be out for him. (sorry, couldn't resist.).
  • It's good to see Craig branch out and work with an interesting director on a cool sounding project. I can see him playing a weathered detective in a noirish thriller. In many respects, I'd rather see him play these types of roles than continue with Bond.

However, the timeframes don't really add up when it comes to Bond 25.

Like many on this forum, everyday I wait with baited breath that today will bring news of Boyle's replacement. However, this news confirms that Craig has been set loose and Bond 25 has all but abdicated its November 2019 release. I don't think we'll get director news till the new year at the earliest.

This doesn't mean a November 2020 release, however, that is most likely as Eon will want to retool the script with a new helmer from the ground up. I imagine filming on Bond 25 will start in December 2019. Which gives Craig plenty of time to attempt some interesting work and build up his presence outside of Bond (something he hasn't really attempted to do before).

Bond 25's delay is pretty much guaranteed.

You could be right. If so, why didn't he do Purity though? That's a far more interesting project to get involved with imho, and there was a recent article that they had that on hold for him. So I'm not giving up hope just yet, although things aren't looking positive.

Craig has committed to star in November,
So the filming of this Rian Johnson movie will start this November?
BOOM, it's over, forget November 2019, Bond 25 has been delayed.

I'd like to see Bond actually doing more detective work ala Dr.No

Barbara Broccoli should have some common decency and end our suffering by officially announcing that Bond 25 has been delayed.

If they miss 2019 & craig is indeed doing a different film then I'm sorry but craig & babs are just out of touch & lazy. Look at the energy & drive plus entertainment cruise & team brings in fallout, you won't see that from eon they want to waste 3 years Putting something together then scrap it & start over with an outline from p&w at best.

Will Craig get on with this director?

Well if the delay is happening it’d be nice to get offficial news sooner than later so we can just get it over with. This film production is just so very depressing...

I have a strong gut feeling it won't be delayed. There's plenty of time for them to film his scenes in 2 months and start filming Bond soon after. I hope so at least.

But there's a small chance he could be 'tired' after filming this movie.

Using P & W at this point means that that they are being just as lazy and out of touch. Purvis said himself he doesn't know how to approach writing a Bond movie anymore. New Bond and new writers please, we already got a new studio!

At this rate, Universal and Annapurna will get exactly 0 Bond movie out of the deal they made with EON. Hey, maybe they will get to distribute The Rhythm Section as a consolation prize? :))

@matt_u : first of all, welcome to the site.

Everything you have written here is quite true. I am a bigger fan of SF than SP, and that film, too, has been raked over hot coals by members. Of course, everyone is free to hold their opinions of any Bond film. But the #1 complaint about SF is its implausible plot. That's always the biggest head scratcher for me.

    Thank you @TripAces!

Yep. These Craig/Mendes/Babs frustration is becoming the signature mark of this community, unfortunately. Hopefully, things will change...

BTW this Craig/Johnson movie will mean a delay. 99% guaranteed...
  • The Deadline article which annouced the film does play it coy.

When asked about getting Craig on board, Rian Johnson says the following:

“Then, serendipitously, we heard Daniel might have a small window, and it worked out. He’s an actor of extraordinary range, and we are looking forward to the fun of finding that modern detective, and collaborating with Daniel on creating a new Poirot.”

    Also the article states:

Boyle’s abrupt exit from Bond 25 gave Johnson and Bergman an opening to pursue Craig, if he was up for squeezing in a movie before returning to his 007 franchise.

There's the possibility that Bond 25 could shoot in January and Craig has an 8 week window to work with Rian Johnson to get this new film made.

However, the likelihood is that Bond 25 is regrouping and going to shoot sometime in 2019 for a release in 2020. There's nothing to say Bond can't come out in spring or summer 2020. Plus Black Panther had great success releasing in February, the release schedules hardly matter these days.

It's blockbuster season all year round. I wouldn't be surprised if Bond 25 got a March 2020 release much like Batman v Superman did in 2016.

The thought crossed my mind. Maybe he's doing these two movies, so he has a tons of money, above the piles of money he already has, to spend on his child and retire from acting/take a long break from it. Like Rick Moranis.

Nothing to worry about, IMO. There's plenty of films where scenes have been completed in a period of 8 weeks.

He's been on a long break for a while now. The kid could have spurred him to greater productivity perhaps. It can happen. People change in situations like this.

    Was wondering the same thing.

Rachel has a few projects in pre-production, maybe he is getting in a few projects now, before she goes back to work and he takes care of the bub.

    Not. Good.

It was SWLM on the big screen 1977 aged 5, first film and Bond film period at the cinema.

I've never been the same since.

The film 'Nancy' produced by BB and MGW will be screening at the London Film Festival in October. It's fair to assume they will be there supporting it, so surely, we will be hearing something by then, otherwise B25 talk will completely drown out that film.

The three years were wasted by the distributor haggling, we have no information on how Eon spent them.

I´m sure his condition to take on the role was that Johnson will direct Bond 25.
