If I'm not mistaken, their very own previous announcement said it was original. Interesting.

Could have been for publicity purposes. Boyle&Hodge was powerful news at the time.

Will he be getting some sort of credit?

Possibly. Based on this latest announcement I'd say they'll get some sort of credit eventually. It sort of seems like a fence mending gesture to clarify and improve optics in the face of speculation and conjecture.

I was just going to ask - are we to assume then that P&W are the ones doing the touching up? No one else was mentioned. Hopefully whatever changes Craig and the producers want will line up with what's best for the film. Sounds like whatever it is, we're going to be getting something of a Hodge / P&W hybrid, which will hopefully be a good thing.

The script by John Hodge, which was a re-working of a draft completed by long-term series stalwarts Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, is now being touched up again
By whom? I certainly hope it's not P&W who are doing the polishing.
All efforts are being made to land a director in time to keep the production schedule intact.
I wonder how EON defines "in time".

"'Original' in the sense it was not based on any Ian Fleming material, that's what they were referencing. Hodge's script WAS based on Purvis & Wade's draft. Locations and sets already booked prior to Hodge."

    So no Shatterhand, then.

    Thanks. That clarifies finally.

    Well this is intriguing

So the writing credit will be Purvis Wade and Hodge

    Directed by Yann Demange

    Interesting indeed

I have to say in all this information coming to light I now am hopeful again that bond 25 will come out as planned

So, do we have Namibia as a confirmed location? Who mentioned it first? Also, are there no spies at Pinewood? None at all? Not even a fly on the wall, to mention some construction or set design? :)

Surely Boyle and Hodge will be getting credit, as their original story/ideas will be getting used (however much of it, is one of many questions). I assume P&W's original "draft" was very early and the producers + Craig had decided they wanted to see if they could find something better. Hopefully Boyle and Hodge have given some spice and energy to it. P&W returning is something I don't think many want, mostly because of SP. But perhaps they can do something better with what Hodge/Boyle have now supplied...

There is no mention of who is doing the 'touching up'. We are assuming it's P&W, and it very well could be, but it could also be someone else. After all, they were looking for writers a few weeks back, as I recall.

If it is a writer/director, maybe they'll wait and see if their "touch-ups" meet expectations before they are announced as director?

Does any of the new director names mentioned alongside Demange have any writing credits for film/TV?

I'm not sure. Wright and Layton at the very least.

Yes, I think that makes sense.

@peter & @ColonelSun pretty much on the nose I'd say but hey don't take any notice of that just invest in wild silly conspiracy theories from MI6's resident nut job.
Excuse me, but as far as I know, nobody here has ever disputed the cold hard facts that were provided by @peter and the colonel. What I attacked was their knowledge of the inner workings of the film industry. It has literally never happened that they wrote something specific about Bond 25, and I (or anyone else here) disputed it. So please stop spreading false information.

Love the fact you assumed you were the ‘resident nut job’.

Thanks! Just wondered if any of the names had been involved in script writing before –making it possible for them to do some writing on the script, if required.

Didn't someone say they were looking for a director who could also write or something along those lines?

These shenanigans are business as usual for a Bond production. Now, if only we could get some real news regarding plot or locations... Yes, I'm that hungry. And a bit tired of the directorial discussion to tell you the truth.

Supposedly a modern Cold War is part of it, right?

Totally agree. Do hope we'll get the director announced soon enough, and that the location rumours/confirmations starts ticking in on a regular basis. It's this point going forward things should get interesting.

YES! Hodge's story (somewhat) remains. So apparently though... Hodge did indeed work on a draft by Purvis and Wade? I thought it was an original... huh.

So did I... I wonder if this means Blofeld is back! :D

So, what then, was this 'great idea' Boyle has had since 2012? I assumed the Hodge script was based on that.

That was my question too - I replied to the tweet with it. I won't get an answer, of course. They won't tell lil' ol' me. ;)

SP was Logan’s fiasco. P&W were brought in to “save” the film. Why not judge them on a film more representative of their actual work, like TWINE or CR? Or B25, it sounds like?

P&W didn’t do enough IMO, whoever’s “fault” it is for what we got. They played it far too safe and gave us something pretty basic in the end - and there was still no reason why the whole foster brother thing couldn’t have been easily eliminated. Or the random retcons. Those are easy fixes to the script that could have and should have happened. In any case, whoever started it and whoever finished it share the praise/blame in the final product. I often do forget about Logan though and should have mentioned that previously. SP as a final product is in no way entirely P&W’s fault, but I think they could have done more.

  • I’m pretty sure Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes are the reason the foster brother angle could not have been easily eliminated. P&W come up with ideas and draft everything into a working screenplay, but they are in no position to overrule what the producers want to happen in the story. I believe they recently said they wanted the bridge scene to go another way but were overruled. You also have to remember they were brought on very late in the game with SP. The Westminster Bridge set had already been built and they were told they had to work it into the finale somehow. Whatever input P&W had on SP was clearly on a very superficial level.

I see. I thought they had a lot more involvement.

I thought so also. I also hope Blofeld and Hinx come back! Maybe we could learn Hinx's first name.

I'd take a steel-nails-Hinx over some Mahori henchman walking cliché everyday. But no Blofeld, thank you.
