Regarding Boyle's interview, it's great news he said he is happy to talk about Bond 25 at a later date. Sooner or later we will find out what exactly happened.

I hope they keep it secret for the period between Bond25 &26, so we get some news in a news poor period.

I’d love to know what really happened, and also get to eventually know Boyle/Hodge’s story/script. Perhaps it was overly political? Too un-Bondian? Could be a number of things really.

Or perhaps it'd be available in the next edition of Some Kind of Hero.

At least Babs has quashed the nonsense of a female Bond, she just needs to do the same with Bond remaining as he is in terms of race? Or we gonna have a push on changing Harry Potter to Harriet Potter next?
  • Boyle's Bond 25 will be in good company with Dalton's aborted Bond 17.

    Hercula Poirota
    Sherlocka Holmes
    Jane Bond
    Harriet Potter
Harriet Palmer (would actually love to see that one ;)
    Jackeline Ryan
    Jane Bourne
Doctor Jekyll, Miss Hyde (yes, this one would be lovely too)
Indiana Janet (this one worked, they just made a Lara Croft - that's the way to go)
    ...
    You get the gist

However, I must admit to finding it slightly uncomfortable to see a white filmmaker telling stories that might belong, or be more appropriately told, by other directors.

No, no, this cultural appropriation nonsense has to stop. What? Dickens shouldn't have written about orphans because he wasn't one? Spielberg shouldn't have directed The colour Purple because he's not black? Agatha Christie shouldn't have written Poirot because she wasn't a man? Or a Belgian? This cultural appropriation business sits in the same alley as these examples. Can we all stop being overthrown by the political correctness dictatorship, please? No, no, Pierce2Daniel, you're too intelligent to find yourself in that uncomfortable position. And I'm sure you'll quickly reconsider. Cheers mate.

Great Hammer film as well. You can do no wrong with Martine Beswick and Ralph Bates.

Furthermore I’m ashamed of all our Bond directors. Not a single one of them was ever James Bond. How could they have then directed a film about James Bond? It’s crazy!!

    Except Terence Young.
  • But Terence Young did not do battle with Dr. No and Mr. Goldfinger so he’s not quite James Bond.

  • Annapurna in financial difficulty; ditches two films and loses President in one day

Considering it was only ever Megan Ellison's hobby, she's done extraordinarily well. The actual quality output of Annapurna is absolutely brilliant. However, boneheaded decisions such as appointing your friend as President will naturally sink your business venture.

I can't imagine Bond 25 will continue in their hands.

Highly doubt this will have any effect on Bond 25.

Good lord. How many more obstacles will Bond 25 face before it even starts production?!

Is Annapurna even contributing to the budget? The deal they signed was for MGM to distribute their films so that they could reach a global market. Seems rather exaggerated to assume Bond is in shambles because the studio is going through a change on the leadership front.

Here is a very good article concerning Annapurna’s current financial woes.

Essentially, the studio has been overspending for years on projects. Ellison would often take on films that were deemed financially too risky for studios. She would then overspend on them and her attempts to become a fully-fledged studio (with distribution capacity) has since faltered. Also, Ellison’s father is refusing to bail her out.

Bond 25 is seen as a possible silver lining for the flagging company....

Personally, I stand by Annapurna, despite these concerns. They are cool and edgy (though, that is hardly a business model). They produce fantastic films, alongside equally great indie outfits like A24.

Bond 25 will be a guaranteed hit for them, and possibly a perfect example of a project worth overspending on. Especially if you get a $300m yield domestically.

I'm not surprised to read about Annapurna's woes. I had a feeling it was Ellison's ego trip rather than a well oiled business machine. I imagine the only reason they were given partial domestic distribution for B25 is because of their broader arrangement with MGM.

I think the best thing that happened to B25 is the move to one global release date of Valentine's Day 2020, because the power of Universal's global marketing prowess will most likely filter back stateside via media channels and assist the film. $300m domestic is very optimistic given Bond's track record however. The film will have to exceptional to achieve that result.

Good thing that the distribution deal was for only one movie for now.
