Given that Annapurna is only tapped to distribute Bond 25 domestically, the film's actual production shouldn't be at risk.

I can't see Universal, especially, letting that happen. They're a powerhouse and have already successfully navigated one precarious creative situation that threatened the project, which they've no doubt invested a lot to be a part of.

Absolute 'worst' case scenario: if Annapurna somehow collapsed outright, Universal could step in to handle domestic distribution as well.

Well Babs doesn't seem all that concerned:

    Barbara's a legend.

Whatever bumps may present themselves on the rougher-than-often-realized road of making these films, Bond's in the very best of hands with her. And we're lucky she's there.

Yes. She single-handedly felled the ‘female’ Bond rumour with class, killing it without fallout. She is criminally underrated as a producer by armchair wannabes on here. A smooth operator who won’t be goaded, multi-talented and beautiful to boot.
  • To be technical, Annapurna is not distributing Bond by itself in the U.S. That is being done by the joint venture Annapurna formed with MGM.

The joint venture distributes movies made by each partner. MGM films are branded MGM, Annapurna as Annapurna (although at this rate, there aren't many to distributed in the near future).

The question was asked whether Annapurna was kicking anything in on the Bond 25 budget. I don't know. I haven't seen anything on that yet.

All true (+1). We're lucky to have her. A true wonder woman.

More details of Annapurna's financial problems as Larry Ellison comes in to rescue studio. New details revealed about Bond 25 deal:
    https://variety.com/2018/film/news/annapurna-larry-ellison-megan-ellison-vice-1202975648/

It looks as though Annapurna is crumbling. Here is the breakdown pertaining to Bond:

    • Annapurna made numerous concessions to get the distribution rights to Bond 25, including agreeing to not include their logo at the start of the film when it opens in 2020.
    • There is a possibility that Annapurna may find itself unable to distribute Bond 25.
    • If such an event would occur, then Universal are expected to take domestic rights.

You can see the logo below:

Update: Deadline posit that Ellison is being advised to keep Annapurna alive long enough to see Bond 25's release as it is the studio's last major 'lifeline'.

  • Sounds like Annapurna needs Bond 25 more than the other way around.

This might get the production moving along nicely at a good pace now.

What? It might. Producers and/or distributors are known to exercise some pressure if they're on a pickle.

Maybe they'll push back the release date to the original release date? :))

Recently, even. But I don't think so, in this particular case.

Dame Judi Dench on Playing an Ex-Spy in ‘Red Joan’ and Cary Fukunaga’s James Bond
    collider.com/judi-dench-interview-red-joan/

You made seven James Bond movies and for the first time the next film will be directed by an American, Cary Joji Fukunaga. What do you think of that?

DENCH: I did Jane Eyre for Cary and he’s absolutely a sweet person. I want to get a message to him to say how glad I am that he’s doing it. I’m sure he’ll give his own take on it and that will be refreshing. I expect he’ll do it very, very well. And Ralph Fiennes I expect will play M very well–she said through gritted teeth!

Were you sad to give up M?

DENCH: No, no, no. But in fact I did eight of them, because I did one morning on Spectre. I haven’t seen Spectre. M sent a message over the telly. She was on the television for a minute or something like that. So I can say I did eight.

Dame Judi has been there in all of the Craig and Brosnan (or in other words, the Babs produced) entries to date. It would only be fitting that she be given some kind of cameo in B25, even if it's only a photo in passing on the wall of an MI6 corridor or something - especially since she's worked with Cary before.

Am I the only one who would love another Dench as M cameo

    Ok I guess I am

As much as I hated the ties to past films in SP, I would not mind seeing Dench again. Lol her character had to die for me to see how much she added to the films.

Spectre was the first film in 20 years to not have dench. Ib

I loved both of Dench’s M’s. Maybe a portrait like Sir Miles had in TWINE?

Bond should do something, so Fienes M can say or Bond stil get orders from the grave.
Nice contuned on The Death are a life.

Never Send Flowers have been much better title for Bond 24. There can have consider that Bond take his ''toilet''drink and keep over in one of the plants.

I'm wondering if they will go for a big name to cast as the Villain again? One would assume Fukunaga can attract a good supporting cast.

I just wonder if EON will feel slightly burnt after Christophe Waltz's relatively undercooked performance in Spectre. I mean they must have paid him a heck of a lot more than, say Toby Stephens or Mathieu Almaric.

I think the intention was to go for 'understated' with Waltz.

The idea in theory makes sense. Waltz is known for playing slightly more flamboyant villains, whilst someone like Bardem is known for playing quieter more menacing villains.

More traditionally speaking, Waltz was more suited to the verbose Silva role in SF and Bardem to the more sinister Blofeld role in SP. However, Mendes subverted expectations and did something different and unexpected with those actors.

However, with Bardem it worked and with Waltz it didn't.

I can almost guarantee that Fukunaga will go for an A-list star. I also have a very good feeling that the villain will be female.

Isn´t Waltz on record with innuendos that he and Mendes didn´t get along too well with one another, with the result of Waltz not Performing on all cylinders?

A female villain would be a really nice change of pace.

He stated that their chemistry was not what he had hoped, and that an actor could only be so good if there are "shared possibilities."
  • Waltz is a fascinating and insightful guy. He makes some very revealing and academic insights into Bond's longevity and his decision to appear in Spectre (it's clear he's a fan of Bond and the phenomenon of the films). He arguably gives a better performance in this video than in SP......

I'd be intrigued if they bought him back.

But the truth is that SP will be nearly half a decade old when Bond 25 comes around. It'll just make Bond 25 so overloaded with baggage to connect it any further.

There's always the chance that Waltz could reprise the role once a new actor joins.
