Seeing as Bond can no longer outdo MI franchise for stunts and action I just hope Fukanaga has some decent script to work with

The only mission impossible stunt which was outdone was Burj khalifa sequence. I have seen much better helicopter/foot/bike/boat/car chase in bond films. Casino Royale parkour sequence/ quantum of solace car chase/plane sequence/skyfall bike chase were rated best in years.

This is debatable; MI has set the gold standard for stunt and physical acting. While the motorcycle chase in Skyfall are well done, with the exception of the pasted on faces, they don’t hold a candle to what was done in “Rogue Nation” and Fallout.
Across the board, the work done on the MI films is more consistently superior in quality. The have nothing as dismal as the car chase with Hinx.
And as far as best rated, like these posts, they’re just opinion, particularly if found on YouTube.

We did have a Trump-like character who was a villain. His name is Goldfinger.

    Or Milton Krest.

It seems to me that Eon only goes political when it is an enemy on which everyone agrees (North Korea in the '90s, Russia in the '80s, China in the '70s...). And even then, it's about safe box office. Was DAD being shown in North Korea? OP in Russia? TMWTGG in China? No, no, and no.

BB is on record as having opposing political views from MGW so, for what it's worth, I think Eon balances each other out and strives to make films that are not very political.
One could argue that in those instances those countries provided more of an iconography than a political Connection. The Cold War was thrilling in an apolitical sense.

They'll have to bring a newness something similar to skyfall. At the time skyfall was released it was pretty much hailed as the best bond film ever made and the best film of 2012
The only Thing it has to bring is Quality.

Gold standard have when stunts & stories have some originality not copy paste from other Films, most of mi scenes themes are copied from bond and other films. I have said this before as well comparing bond's worst (hinx) with mi's best is not fair. Fallout helicopter chase was dumb when it compares to Spectre. Pasted or not that stunt stand out because it was not same old chase on plain roads. They tried to make something unique out of it by taking a bike chase to the rooftop. Opinions which are stated above are with some Reasons. I would rather see a stuntman performing an excellent stunt rather than an actor doing an average one.

Nothing in SPECTRE is superior to anything in the last 3 MI films , including the helicopter sequences.
As far as copying from Bond, that accusation is made far too often; it’s like saying that one western ripped off on other because they both used horses . Broadly speaking, so many films, of any genre, have been made at this point, that it’s possible to site a similar scene in s previous film . To imply that one group of filmmakers copyied something from another film is presumptuous. I strongly doubt if the MI crew set out to intentionally to copy Bond; if thy did, in most cases they improved upon it.
This is why, as has often been discussed here, the Bond organization has to up its game; as of late they are being outshined.

Not with Purvis and Wade around with "original" material.

Their scripts tend to be mauled by directors that aren't good writers, that's the truth. Now imagine someone like Fukunaga, who is a decent writer to say the least, getting his hands on a P&W ideia. Could turn out brilliant.

A few shots and scenes can be coincidence but doing a lot isn't. for instance whole a lot of scenes in Rogue Nation were similar to Spectre and release date itself was pushed 6 months back to avoid comparison. That helicopter scene in fallout was nowhere near QOS plane chase. The film itself is highly overrated. Yes last 2 bond films didn't have much actions as compared to mi or others but Skyfall wasn't supposed to be another action flick.Only weak one was Spectre but by saying they are not up to their game by just 1 film is presumptuous. People forget that first 3 mi films were bad on so many levels.About improvising skyfall Shanghai lift jump was way better than fallout . LTK convoy escape was great example.

Another link which shows how rogue nation ripped a lot from Spectre script which was leaked in 2014

The second and third films may be bad, but the first one sure as heck wasn't. One hell of a spy thriller that's worth thousands of Bournes and its clones.

Agreed first one was ok but rogue nation was the only one I liked. Bourne series were groundbreaking whose theme was followed a bit in QOS as well.

I certainly hope so and looking forward to what fukanga will bring in terms of action sequences will he go for a traditional or something completely fresh approach.
  • Although I agree that Bond could stand to punch up the action, I think getting into an arms race with the other big franchises is a dangerous path straight back to the stupid excess of the 1990s. Bigger! Louder! More outrageous! And now with a bikini model and a cute baby and a talking dog who plays basketball!

The Fast and Furious franchise has already jumped that shark (or nuclear submarine, as the case may be) and I think Bond (under a thoughtful director) will be well served to use good action carefully rather than trying to crack us over the head with it.

Without intention to judge one way or another, I think it´s fairly obvious that McQuarrie didn´t mind being openly influenced by a number of Bond films and, in the case of Fallout, also by Ronin and TDK.

I suspect that if he's in LA, he must be casting the film whilst working on the script. I think official pre-production is happening in London, so I'm a little nervous that Fukunaga isn't here in the trenches.

But perhaps there is a particular reason we aren't overly privy about yet. I can only speculate that he's meeting with possible cast members.

There’s nothing to report when someone is hammering out polishes to a film he wants to shoot.

I still can't believe an earlier poster says they rate the car chase in QOS. The editing is appalling.

As I said before, with Skyfall, we had rumors of Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes long before any announcement.

What do people think on timing of announcements? My guess is mid to late January, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's even first week of February before we get substantive news. Rumours may filter out before that.

Official announcement or press conference will be 1-2 weeks before filming commence so my best guess is February mid to last.

Another thing is can anyone from the cast of knives out or someone Cary worked with will join bond 25

I, for one, wish Christopher Plummer would be our villain. He was born for it. So yeah, with a cast like that, we could have someone jump ship after it ports.

Oh I'd like that. He's an amazing actor who owns every scene he's in. I've always felt he could have been Bond in his prime as well, nationality notwithstanding.

I'd love Christopher Plummer as the villain also after watching the final season of house of cards I would be welcome to the idea of robin wright as the villain even though that season kinda was disappointing blame Kevin Spacey for his mistakes.

In Bardem's case, he confirmed it in a TV interview months before the official film announcement.

  • Well it's a guessing game, of course, and I've said this before, but my guess is that we'll wait a good while for information and most of it will be through 'official' channels. EON were stung by the Sony leaks and they'll be keeping information very close to their vests this time around.
