Yeah. It's pretty weird how quiet it's been. Not worrisome, but strange.
No, it is 100% worrysome. Either Bond 25 will be a much smaller Bond film than what we are used to (which is very unlikely), or they are in deep trouble and filming will be delayed again.

The wait between 1989 and 1995 felt more momentous - it was an unprecedented break at the time, between actors - on the back of a disappointing box office performance. They had finally run out of Fleming titles (felt like they'd never get Casino Royale back and no one thought of Quantum of Solace!) It was in a time of no social media so no news for sometimes years at a time. Also I was 14 when I saw LTK at the cinema and 20 when I saw Goldeneye. Lots of changes in taste and life experiences between those two films for me.

That's exactly how I felt back then. We didn't have social media to find out what was going on. We had only a couple James Bond Fan Clubs to occasionally update us. I remember as we got late into 1990/91 with no news, I wrote to both fan clubs and got responses that the film was pushed back until November, the January, etc. There was an article in CINEMATASTIQUE about Broccoli selling the franchise and that the next film would have robots. John Landis was among the directors considered and so forth.
I remember the assurance was from fan clubs that Dalton was indeed coming back in spite of he rumors he would be replaced by Brosnan.
It was unprecedented that there wasn't a new film in '91. We eventually got the sad news the series was on indefinite hiatus until the legal situations were resolved.

Are you serious? There's nothing strange about this. Bond 25 is in pre-production and they are keeping things under wraps, like any big franchise film. How much have u heard about the new Star Wars film? And that's been filming for months now. Just calm down. News will trickle out soon enough.

Always defending EON, right, Colonel? The comparison to Star Wars 9 is entirely unfair for two reasons: that's a movie that is nearly entirely shot in a studio (meaining fewer leaks) and nearly the whole cast is made up of returning actors (again, meaing fewer leaks). Seriously, when was the last time a big budget movie with extensive on location filming planned was in pre-production and there were THIS few leaks just 3 months before filming was supposed to begin?

When Boyle's departure was announced some people here stated that they were expecting something like that to happen because of the lack of leaks/news. Now here we are closer to the planned start of filming than we were when Boyle left Bond 25 (109 vs 101 days), we don't now more about Bond 25 than we did when Boyle left, and you are essentially saying being worried is unreasonable??

@PanchitoPistoles you just don't give up do you?! Why is it that you expect so many stuff to come out about B25 and when eon are not releasing as much you want to hit the panic button and get everyone so tensed up like the production is in serious trouble, Do me a favor and just stop!

What are you smoking? I'm not expecting EON to release anything before the press conference, and never have. All I am saying is that based on the amount and timing of leaks before CR, QOS, SF and SP, the nearly COMPLETE lack of leaks just 3 months before filming is supposed to begin is worrying.

They're polishing the script. I had guessed that a couple weeks back, and then an interview with CF was released a couple days later reaffirming where I believed they were in the pre-production phase.

So what exactly do you want to hear about the script-writing process, Panchito? Do you actually want to hear who the big-bad is? What the plot is? How it ends?

In other words, we saw that with the Sony Leaks-- which never would have made it to our eyes and ears if Sony wasn't hacked. And without those leaks Panchito, you would have heard as little as EoN wanted you to hear.

And you would be crying the same song: the production will be stalled! It's over! Chris Nolan to save franchise!

If we didn't hear of the Sony Leaks, we wouldn't know the machinations that were happening behind the scenes.

Bringing that to the present, CF himself said he's polishing the script, and then working on the action (which we should all be grateful for if we care about, you know, story). And that's all he, and EoN and Universal, are willing to share at the moment.

The doomsday predictions are annoyingly funny. Sometimes I think you're having a go and pulling our legs; other times I think your anxiety should seriously be treated. Go out and get a girlfriend, or a boyfriend, or a dog or a cat. Have a pint. Read a book. Watch a film.

In the end, no matter what happens, the sun will still rise the next day. There will be another Bond film. And life goes on...

Come on, peter, you are more intelligent than this! If they are on track, then they are already seriously looking for suitable locations or have already made arrangements, not to mention that the casting process has already started. Leaks related to these processes is what's reasonable to expect at this point.

There's a lot going on. It's just that, without hacks and leaks, EoN doesn't care to release any info.

And I believe very strongly that CF's focus is on story and script work at the present moment.

I also think he has a very clear idea of who will star. And I would guess these actors have been personally contacted by the director himself. No leaks will come of this.

And there's no doubt in my mind that crews have taken to their offices and sets are being designed based on what's in the script at the moment.

This is all "in-office" at the moment, and no one, outside of the present authorities, will be allowed access into this very busy process.

CF's calm confidence makes me quite excited that he's about to deliver something strong, and maybe even unique, to the Bond franchise.

"EON Productions have confirmed that their recent hiring of Bond 25 director Cary Joji Fukunaga who has been working ardently on the project's screenplay has just added a full stop."

    This recent update is riveting!

For the umpteenth time: what's worrying is not EON not telling us anything. It would be foolish to expect EON to announce anything before their press conference. What's worrying is the lack of leaks. Go back and check how much we knew about SF or QOS 3 months before filming began.

No two film productions are ever the same, Panchito.

And after the Sony Hacks what'd you expect?

It's all in-house at the moment, and, until Universal and EoN hire you as special consultant to the production, you're just going to have to sit on the floor and keep your hands to yourself.

So your worry stems from the fact that they might actually be doing their job well after months of complaints of them doing the opposite?
  • re: the 1989-95 hiatus. The main source of news during the first half of that period was the business news press.

In the early 1990s, Albert R. Broccoli put Danjaq/Eon up for sale. No sale happened, but the fact it was up for sale was reported by The Wall Street Journal. I'm sure other business outlets reported it as well.

Also, the disintegration over at MGM (or MGM-Pathe as it was known for a time) was also getting reported a lot. The Danjaq-Eon lawsuit was written about. I remember seeing the press release when Danjaq-Eon settled the lawsuit (I think that was 1993).

To be sure, it was a different time than today, no social media, etc. But what coverage oft he drama was taking place on the business pages, rather than the entertainment pages.

Bewildered by your comments, as always. I am simply expressing the realities of feature film pre-production, not defending Eon. Personally, I think they could have benefitted from planning ahead more, but they have/are following Cubby's one film at a time direction, probably out of deep respect, and also, as an example, Star Wars has been weak on this forward thinking too. And leaks/news etc. have nothing to do with being studio based over location based -- believe me, that I know (very, very well) from my close media friends. We are in 2018 - and studio walls are no barrier.

It's pretty clear EON has tightened the rules for the crew. They surely are not allowed to share the slightest info while working on Bond. Alot of information we got was via social media, this won't happen this time as the producers want total control after the Sony disaster. Relax, they're still working on it, just not loud.

Come on! Seriously? My argument wasn't that studio walls are barriers. My argument was that when you shoot your entire movie in a studio, then there won't be any leaks related to locations, since you won't be filming on location at all.

But the new Star Wars is not shooting 100% studio. A very close associate, my very own ProductionDesigner, is an Art Director on the new film, and he also did Last Jedi, and he looks after the extensive location shoots, in fact far more locations than we saw on SF and even SP. Again, I am bewildered by your weak and very ill informed arguments.

I can't believe so much time is spent responding to someone who obviously has virtually no practical knowledge of filmmaking and is virtually always in chicken little mode.

Not worked up at all, just voicing my concern. On the other hand it seems me voicing my concern rustled a lot of jimmies in this thread. Some people even got personal! Why?

One doesn't need any practical knowledge of filmmaking to come to the logical conclusion that the lack of leaks is suspicious. For comaprison, an INCOMPLETE list of Skyfall leaks that happened MORE than 3 months before filming started :

    - Naomi Harris would likely play Moneypenny: https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=9569
    - Ralph Fiennes likely to appear in the film: https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=9341
    - Bardem offered lead role: https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=9234]
  • In other news, Jon Mallard has joined Bond 25 as the First Assistant Director
    https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0539883/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cr11

He's a long time fixture of Fukunaga's team. He worked with the director on True Detective, Beasts of No Nation and Manaic (he was also the Producer of the latter).

It seems that despite the anxiety on discussion boards, the film is moving forward behind the scenes.

The question now is whether other long time Fukunaga crew members will begin to get announced.
