Not at all excited by Malek but it's looking like all the hints coming together for him to be in Bond 25. If so, I hope he's a psycho killer like Benecio gave us. That was good.
Main villain? Geez, I hope not. But as always, it depends heavily on the script. Get us a good script - we have a good director for sure.

Bellucci can’t act. She’s just gorgeous, period. She can’t even dub. In the Italian version she obviously dubbed herself and was atrocious. I remember people laughing in the theatre during the funeral scene.

Dubbing is not given to everyone and a good, even a great actress may not be a good voice actress. Bellucci may not be the greatest actress, but she is capable and what she lacks in acting skills she has in charisma.

I don’t think they’d get a BAFTA winner and possible Oscar winner to just play a henchman. Plus, his success with Bohemian Rhapsody will do wonders for the success of the film, if he does indeed play the villain.

I agree this is one of the problems with the action. It’s interesting that the PTS which many consider great, I thought was okay, but dragged... anyway the Day of the Dead festival is going on and it’s only a visual to have a helicopter sequence over. Here you have a bunch of people in skeleton costumes and you build no suspense or intrigue out of that at all. Hello. But that’s Mendes.

Is it Mendes? The same problem doesn't afflict Skyfall.

That’s fair, I remember I couldn’t get an idea of what kind of villain Bardem would be when he was announced for Skyfall but was completely blown away by the artistic choices and his acting, so you never know, if he is cast, his performance may change your mind :)

Olivier Schneider was fight coordinator. Yves Girard was one of his assistants.

I wasn't impressed with the fight stunts/choreography at all. I was massively disappointed.

Really? The two fight sequences were a strength in the film, imho. Not very often do you hear James Bond in distress as his opponent is trying to gouge his eyes out with stainless steel fingernails.

I remember fans going ballistic over the idea, that's why I mentioned that one in particular. Personally, I'd hate that to happen in a Bond film.

As for Malek, odds are he is in. I still think he could perhaps do a great turn as a psycho side henchman; I do prefer for him not to be the main villain. Just my instincts. With a great script and his current confidence (surely he has confidence right now) he could surprise me. Not excited, but that's okay. Most important to me is Cary and we also have a great cinematographer on hand.

I think the song will be done by somebody currently popular. Do people really think it will be Gaga?

Also I think other Bond girl roles are up for grabs; nobody I've seen really making me think 'Oh that would be a great choice.' I'm fine with hiring lesser known actresses, I just want somebody who can act well enough, with a real screen presence. And yes, I loved Monica Bellucci and would have loved for her to be in Spectre a lot more than she was used.

The thing is I'm generally rather positive about villain castings. Last time I had that kind of unease is when Toby Stephens was cast.

We haven't seen Daniel Craig at the BAFTAs but he was at the Grosvenor House after party. Baz was there too, by the way. Olivia and Rachel took one rabbit each home! :)

Great news. Let's see how long it takes till Eon ask him to remove this.

Though it looks as though someone will get thrown off a building.

@ggl007 As far as I understand, Craig was not in attendance.

Looks like things are indeed rolling. So far no official news of another delay, and no confirmation that filming has been pushed back to April. Unless I've missed something.

The opening of SF is a standard PTS. The opening of SP is just memorable. The richness of the environment, Bond dressed like an angel of death, an opening tracking shot that’s not about planes, trains and automobiles, but first-person action in a very rich, fantastic atmosphere melted by hot and dust. There’s an hitchcockian flavour in it. A more confident and unpredictable rhythm that gives real life to the sequence. Just my opinion.

The was a rumour on From Tailors with Love blog that filming will indeed take place in Jamaica, but it will double for Cuba. The source is said to be someone who's part of the crew.

Must say I would prefer it if Jamaica was to be, well, Jamaica. And not Cuba. Could it be that they're using Cadiz for Cuba again as well?

I am genuinely excited about B25, manly because of CF. He's a wonderful and visual storyteller. I also think, and I'm assuming on my partner, there's an excitement about the production amongst the creatives as well.

    Fingers crossed.

I am as well. I was meh on Boyle, and far more optimistic with CJF. Thanks for your contributions, @peter, btw. It's nice we have people like you here. I see even @ColonelSun popped by, cool.

    ---

It seems many here are quite excited about Rami Malek. I'm not familiar with his work, so I can't comment on his acting. - I have seen two movies he was apparently in (Ain't Them Bodies Saints and The Master), but I don't remember him in either (yeah well, small supporting roles). There's no way in hell I was ever going to even consider contributing to the Bohemian Rhapsody BO, so that'll be a hard pass from me. (A sort of pity in that in different circumstances - preferably a better movie and definitely a different director - I'd be quite interested in a Freddie Mercury movie, and would have seen it months ago.)

I have been rolling my eyes at Malek quite a bit recently, though. He hasn't exactly been handling the press with the movie all that well - both regarding how the movie handled the person he played, and regarding questions about its director. Just not a good look at all. It's a month to the Oscars, and it'll be interesting to see if he continues the way he has so far (a bad idea... and the latest I heard he was digging a hole for himself instead of finally getting smart), or if someone gives him good advice that he actually listens to.

In short: so far I'm not excited about the possibility of having him in a Bond movie, but we'll see...

Hi @Tuulia , thanks for the kind words. And yes, Colonel Sun is a cool dude. I've read a couple of scripts he has in development and they're damn good. He's a genuine talent with a very rich history in the film industry (not only in the James Bond world; this guy literally went "flying with Superman" a story he can tell while he was working on one of the SM films).

Anyways, we got a morsel of information and I was happy to share. It may give small hint to where the film is heading. And I like to hear how Gregg Wilson's in charge of the location crew (which means he's a very active producer, learning the ropes by tackling huge responsibilities. Gives a little more weight to the argument that I learned he will be taking over his father's position for B26).

Re: Malek and the director: very dicey situation, isn't it? Everyone may have dropped the ball on this one-- producers on down. Up until recently, everyone kept mum about the allegations (almost as if they thought that if they kept quiet, it would all go away).

And then a reply was expected from an actor.

I personally don't think it's his job to have to answer these questions-- but the producers. And once the producers respond, the actors should be given orders to follow the lines that they've been given.

I certainly understand your discomfort with the entire situation.

Here is an article of Malek's recent response:

    https://www.wmagazine.com/story/rami-malek-bryan-singer

@peter, many of us here are genuinely happy for you and others to share what you guys can when you can, even if small. Oh and Gregg taking over from his dad for the next one makes plenty sense, and I would have expected that to happen by then.

On Singer, well, I wouldn't say discomfort, but rather rage that it seems nothing affects him, because apparently he has very powerful connections (similar garbage individuals, I presume). It was just confirmed that he's keeping his next directing job, because his current film is making so much money, and so...

Thanks for the link, but I had already read Malek's most recent comments, which were - again - just weak, and not properly thought out at all - and he sure likes to repeat "Freddie Mercury" at any opportunity (and it has worked pretty well). "Not aware" just won't cut it, when the stuff has been (reasonably) public knowledge for over 20 years - multiple accusers, articles, a documentary film years ago... I kinda expect Hugh Jackman etc. will say they had absolutely no idea either. Somehow people who work with and hung out with the guy are "not aware" when people who don't even personally know anyone who works in the industry do. Rrright. Even I knew years ago that Bryan Singer is trash. So of course the producers knew. The studio obviously knew since with what already happened with that X-men press tour. They just like to keep hiring a guy who makes them money. (Literally what next project's employer said.) They can't possibly have any actual "answers" besides that.

I don't know what you really had in mind, but I don't think I can agree with you that an actor's job doesn't also include answering questions concerning their work and people they work with. Actors are constantly asked about their colleagues and directors and what working on a project was like, etc. It's normal practice in promotional work and any other interviews with actors, and should be just as normal when everything isn't fine and dandy. I think actors shouldn't just play mouthpieces to producers, either. Like... if there's a change of director during actual production (or just if it's public knowledge there were some issues on set), it's only natural an actor gets asked about that, and it's weird if they get irritated and defensive (like Malek) that the question is even asked. If there's a big story released about the director of the movie then of course at the very least the lead and the "face" of the movie gets asked for a comment, and I think they should be able to do that - as well as be allowed to answer it themselves without being told their lines. Just like in, say, sport or politics, an actor's main job isn't answering questions from the media/public, but it definitely is part of the job.

As for Malek in general, I was trying to say (messily I admit) that while I couldn't even comment on his acting since I've barely seen it, and for obvious reasons won't be seeing his most high-profile showpiece currently in theatres, I also haven't been impressed by his immature and irritable attitude and dismissive comments to legitimate questions (about other things, too) - long before the Atlantic article, as well as some peculiarly vague blabla about Mercury. The combination of the two things hasn't made me remotely excited about him potentially being cast, that's all. He might still be both a nice guy and a great actor, though. I'm sure I'll form a better informed opinion of him sooner or later one way or another (Bond movie involvement or not).
BR is pretty much the first time I've noticed him and it's been his just what he's been saying and I haven't been impressed. - A good thing I already liked Viggo as an actor before Green Book (which I also haven't seen, and most likely won't... I still haven't seen Driving Miss Daisy, either), because he hasn't exactly impressed during the awards season, either, hehee. (I'll have their presumably well-intentioned messiness over the unpleasantness of Brian May and the GB writer Vallelonga any day, though.)

Apologies for OT. (I know it's pretty common here anyway, though.)

    ---
    ---

Digital and film are both fine by me, I'm not too fussy about that; after all, both can be done well or not, and can look good or not. I kinda expected film, and I guess that would have been my preference, but curious to see what they do with digital as well. I've certainly enjoyed most of what I've seen of Sandgren's work so far. (2 were so meh as movies that I admit I don't really remember the cinematography, but the other 4 sure looked good, and at least 3 of them - American Hustle, La La Land, First Man - looked bloody excellent).

Fair points at Tuulia. I have seen the documentary you mentioned above and I honestly believe, with a brand new accusation in the pipeline (one just released a couple of days ago), that Singer will not keep the Red Sonya job. It's frustrating that there has been twenty years of stories, and nothing has stuck thus far. Saying that-- i think it's just a matter of time for this guy.

Re: actors, like sports figures: Some are not very well equipped to handle anything outside of their job. And when it comes to allegations of, basically, forcing sex onto minors, I think that the producers should have done their job and coached their cast and crew in how to respond to these claims (very serious claims, and here's the dicey part: with no charges. As much as we'd like to see the guilty crucified by anyone working with Singer (or all those who worked with Spacey and Weinstein (Meryl Streep didn't know Harvey was the monster he's been revealed to be? Bull and s$$$), it rarely happens until, as we've seen with Harvey, charges are brought forth.).

I understand your disgust with Singer (or anyone in a position of power who has done this, especially to children (I have three of my own), so I suspect our feelings on the matter are very much aligned.

@Tuulia the quote above, I mention I dont think Bryan Singer will keep the Red Sonya job with new allegations in the pipe line.

Look at John Lassiter. He just got a second chance because he was so successful at Pixar.

you're correct @echo , but in the case of Lassiter, from what I'm hearing, he couldn't get nailed for his behaviour in a more severe way since it was inappropriate hugs and kisses (from the friendly, child-like man who wears Hawaiian shirts! (funny face emoji, and so on)).

But friends of mine in LA were calling for Bryan Singer to get the axe weeks and weeks ago (when I told @Tuulia I don't think he was going to keep this job much longer).

Re: B25 I also heard everything was on schedule. Again.

And then I come back here today and I see a stunt coordinator released a shot of rehearsals (what I heard specifically, which would back what @ggl007 has been saying: there was a lot of activity at Pinewood all last week, and I heard it was specific to second unit. Believe it or not, I don't care. I will give only what I'm told (and I've seen my friend's pics on the SP set, and his pics with the Wilson family, and his reputation in the finance world is unmatched; so I could care less if no one believes anything I report back (something I should stop doing, lol-- but I have been consistent in everything I have said since Boyle was fired. I know jamaica and Cadiz were scouted-- will they be used? we will see. Maybe not now that Italy and Greece (and Norway), have also been scouted-- and something I admit I didn't hear of until reading it on Mi6).

you're correct @echo , but in the case of Lassiter, from what I'm hearing, he couldn't get nailed for his behaviour in a more severe way since it was inappropriate hugs and kisses (from the friendly, child-like man who wears Hawaiian shirts! (funny face emoji, and so on)).

Thank you, @MaxCasino !! Film productions-- pre, during, and post production-- are constantly growing and changing and are organic...

There will be location scouting, as @ColonelSun has said previously, that will go on, even during filming. It's the nature of the business.

There will be casting that goes on, long after shooting has begun. Nature of the biz.

There will be changes to the script, right into the editing process. Nature of the...

But those that have reported what they know so far have all been pretty consistent from the moment Boyle was dismissed (and this was before the mainstream media put some facts (from the on set issues), together).

From what i know of @ColonelSun (having read at least three projects he has in pre-production (TWO of them being with a producer on a recent Boyle production (and a producer that CS introduced me to)), I know this guy is a solid contributor as a tv/screenwriter/director.

@ggl007 is a new relationship, but everything he has reported is honest and, it seems, he works tirelessly handling and managing, MANY contacts (some may be bang on, others may think they're right, but were led astray, as will happen; but nothing he says is bullshit for clickbait on this site. He doesn't need to tell us anything. Seriously. He doesn't need to tell us a thing. He's a genuine and gracious guy).

No problem, but what I think that should be clarified and hasn't yet, only because when anyone gets news, we spew it all, not out of neglect, but excitement.

No matter what morsel i bring in, or Colonel, or ggl007, is just that. A morsel. I am confused and in the dark about the meat of this production-- and kudos to the gatekeepers at EoN (I don't want another Spectre fiasco).

I have no idea what this story will be about. I can only guess. And, right now, my guess is as good as anyone.

I can guess that if Waltz is in this film, it will be a cameo. But, my gut tells me (thankfully), he won't be in this one.

I think and I guess that Maddy being involved has something to do with the plot (obviously), but doesn't have to do with the plot of SPECTRE (SPECTRE, as in the film).

And then I have my own personal feeling about CF being a far better director to take this on, than Sam Mendes was to take on his second Bond effort-- but I will leave that to me, and not bore anyone else why I think that this will be quite a significant and very daring James bond film.

I have to say I’m enjoying this shroud of secrecy, whether EON have done it because of the leaks with SP, or if it’s all part of the strategy to keep everyone surprised. It’s working for me.
I love to be surprised by the cast, locations and story. In this info 24/7 age we live in, it makes a refreshing change sometimes to be kept in the dark.
    Maybe it’s just me.
  • I think it's definitely a good idea for Eon to be tightlipped about production. It is just the longer wait since Spectre, has some of us are little thirsty for info :)
