DAD is at least better than Skyfall and Quantum of Solace. It doesn't come close to SP or CR though. I've always had both GE and CR being top 10, with CR being the better of the two. Then again even those films have their fair share of issues.

I regret to inform you all that the official 007 YouTube account just uploaded the scene in Casino Royale of Daniel Craig's James Bond resigning from MI6.

    ;)

    It is odd timing.

It's because that scene was shot on this date back in 2006.

The Craig era will always be unique to me, as far as the Bond canon goes, because for eras that extend past two films, his tenure is the only one in which I love all of the films contained therein. Connery has YOLT and DAF, pale imitations of the early 60s classics, and Moore's films are very much inconsistent with me, and not my preferred interpretation of Bond.

All of Dan's films have a special place in my heart, especially QoS, because that one really had to earn it, and it also showed me the power of exercising your own criticism of a movie as opposed to listening to a majority who are clamoring to tell you how bad something is. And of course, I think CR will be my favorite Bond anything forever. Sean's performance in Goldfinger brought me into the franchise, but CR and the Craig era as a whole have made Bond what he's worthy of being, a complex, troubled and mesmerizing character, just as Fleming wrote him. It doesn't get much better than this, and I don't think the man is done, just yet. Bond 25 would be a great way to tie loose ends up, close out the Craig era, and tell the first last Bond story, with a sense of finality to it like we've never seen before, and hopefully, ending it with Bond earning the happiness he's been so worthy of, in whatever form that may come.

I hate to say it, but post-Craig era, I'll never be this invested in Bond again. This era has been everything I would have wanted to see if I was one of our veteran fans here watching these films in the 60s or 70s, a portrayal of Bond that pulled no punches and presented a dizzying picture of him and his world that grounded much of his life in a way that almost deceived you into believing that he was real. Dan's exemplary handling of his portrayal is largely responsible for this, making his Bond films a special series of character studies of the man that've taken us deeper and farther than any other eras have dared to go. It's no wonder Pierce (and Timothy too, I sure) has been so jealous of what Dan has been given to work with; it'd be every actor's dream to do this sort of work on such an iconic character.

Bond has always felt secure and strong in Dan's hands, and I don't look forward to the day when that is no longer a reality.

I'm with you @0Brady... And I've said it on several other posts: I don't envy BB when she does have to re-cast. DC took the ball and ran with it, and never stopped running.

I've enjoyed his portrayal immensely to the point that my gut's already telling me: I won't be as invested in the character as I have during this era.

Watching SPECTRE the other night, it amazes me how, after ten years and through his fourth film, he continues to steal and commands, I mean really commands, every scene he's in.

He's a superior beast, that Mr. Craig. He was (is) just so damn good in the role, he has potentially robbed me of enjoying the efforts of his successor. I know it's foolish, and people will criticize this point of view. And, hey, it is just me, and don't expect anyone to understand, but, before Craig I was a Bond fan. I thought Connery was number one, but I enjoyed all the others, warts and all.

Since '06, there has been a shift. I have become a Craig fan, and an even bigger fan of his portrayal of Bond. I've relished every scene he's been in and feel he encapsulates everything I wanted in Bond. I'm not, right now, interested in what other direction someone else can take the character in, since, the most enjoyable and interesting aspects of the character have been portrayed by this actor.

I'm open minded enough to say I could be proved wrong in the future.

Have there been bumps in the story-telling aspects of his tenure? Absolutely. Unfortunately we don't have Maibaum steering this ship. However, Craig has always been "present" in the role. His choices are always interesting and consistent to his development.

I will deeply miss him, when the passing comes, since I fear it will be a symbolic ending in my relationship with this character.

I'm ashamed to say that since this shift occurred, and outside of Fleming's writing and Craig's portrayal, I concede that I am no longer a very good Bond fan.

Above the four press conferences who knows maybe in November (or next November) we will have one with Craig for The Garden of Death

I do maintain Craig is coming back and will believe that till a new actor is announced. I joined this forum and another one right around quantum of solace because for two films to have everything I wanted was spectacular and while the last two Craig era bond films have just been ok I must admit I can safely say none of them will be in my bottom rung ever.

    All this fuss...

It'll be a fart in the wind like last time. They aren't going to issue a minutes silence or a national holiday when Craig leaves. The general public just don't feel the same way that some of us think they do. If they did then the papers would be writing articles about Craig staying rather than leaving. It's that simple. They will love Craig while he is Bond, then forget him when he leaves. The only two actors where that hasn't been the case is Connery (because he was the first) and Moore (because he has traded on his Bond persona ever since and become a national tresaue in his own right, unlike other actors). I could understand where certain among us were coming from were they talking about Han Solo or Indiana Jones, because only one man has ever played those characters on the big screen (not counting River Phoenix). People are used to this happening with Bond. Craig will move on, and so will the public. I think we can all stop acting like the nation and the world won't know how to cope without Craig. Sure, they will look back fondly in the same way that people who were young during Brosnans rein might look back fondly on that era. But the idea that " EON will have a hard time replacing Craig" is patently untrue. In fact the opposite is true. EON could throw any early thirties actor into the tux and as long as they had the looks and a smidgeon of charm, the media storm would take care of the rest. Craig is and has always been disposable, which makes him no different than any other Bond actor. Like I said, a fart in the wind.

@Mendes4Lyfe you are right people will move on after Craig leaves but please don't say it will be like when Brosnan left.

You might think DAD is better than SF & QOS but that is your opinion and not one shared by large percentage. The reason why Craig is treated like this is because he changed the perception of Bond.

DC detractors can try and deny but Craig has affected the role like no one other than Connery. This is the reason unlike TD & PB the person who steps up to the plate next has got one large mountain to climb.

Lets hope for your sake your man gets the job when it's up for grabs because certain people won't be able to stop themselves at reminding you of your obsessive campaign for him.

You actually think Turner will turn heads like Craig did?

There's two types of Bond fans. Those who can't move on, and those who want to see things move on. Craig is my favourite Bond, but I won't be crying if he leaves. It's useless. I'll be excited for what the future holds. If Craig leaving holds you back from enjoying future Bond movies, you need a hard reality grip IMO.

I don't think the large percentage really care. They like the current Bond because they're the current Bond. When a new guy steps in, the media machine kicks in and the old actor gets forgotten about. Also, I don't think Craig did much new that hadn't been done before. Craig is a mix of Connery and Lazenby just like Brosnan was a mix of Connery and Moore.

Of course Turner will be like the Second Coming.

DC I think shows elements of Connery but he offers more depth, more depth than any other actor before him and that includes Dalton.

Craig did things none of the other actors did with the role and that can't be denied.

Brosnan just stood in front of mirror with a hair dryer pretending he was James Bond.

Ok i think Craig has definitely left his mark in the role and in the future will always be on the top 3 lists.
Maybe he might get the usual hate if the next actor is succesful but once Bond number 7 is out Craig will go back again to the top 3.

Ohh on the moving on thing

Sure we can all enjoy every Bond performance from The future or past but our favorite always keeps a special place in our hearts and German lady with many other Craig fans will always prefer Craig to any other Bond. Sure they might like the next guy but not like Daniel Craig.

I like the 6 guys who portrayed Bond and i hope to like next guy but Pierce will always be my favorite

LOL! I like a man that says how he feels! The funny thing is the next Bond could/might/perhaps/you never know... be better than Daniel Craig. Who knows, he might be able to do a Bond quip better or be smoother or more charming or whatever you think a new Bond actor should bring to screen. Sure, some people will say "Craig should have done one more" but most people won't care. Craig did his run, it was a success, he moved on.

When The Force Awakens was released we found out there was not one scene with Luke/Han/Leia together. Not one scene! I was upset and felt let down. Most people seeing TFA couldn't give a damn. People (casual fans of franchises) are a fickle lot.

Harrison Ford won't be the only guy to play Han Solo. Some new actor is playing him in the forthcoming Star Wars spin-off. Alden Ehrenreich. Catchy name, that. ;))

And sooner or later Indiana Jones will get a reboot with a new actor as Indy. Life moves on and so do Bond actors!
