HUGE news if true, and it does sound very believable! On one hand, I'm not happy that they enlisted yet another writer, on the other hand Phoebe Waller-Bridge is indeed talented.

"Bond director Cary Fukunaga and the crew are due to begin filming in Jamaica within weeks. "

    ...and even more importantly:
"One plot being considered involves Craig’s ageing Bond retired and now living in Jamaica – the island where 007 author Ian Fleming had his Goldeneye retreat. The 007 number has been taken up by a new agent – a woman – who embarks on a mission which forces Bond to come out of retirement."

I know a lot of people here will hate this idea but I LOVE IT!
    So Craig Bond
wants to quit his Job directly after he was promoted to a very respectable position to live together with Vesper. Then after she killed herself his Job is the one Thing keeping him straight. Then he Drops his balls after M doesn´t trust him out of senility. Which results in Bond getting M killed. Then he wants to quit his Job again, this time for Whatshername. then he Comes again out of retirement? What a sorry fella, and what an incompetent Government which occupies such an instable person as their top secret Agent!
This is all too politically motivated meta crap for me.

The same one that would allow a Secret Agent drive around in major foreign cities in a not so subtle Aston Martin with rockets under the hood.

Bond getting back into his job repeatedly isn't that much of a stretch by comparison, really.

I'm happy they're not doing something safe. I don't have any issue with a Double-Oh being a woman. Especially considering the likelihood of Bond reclaiming the 007 moniker back from said female agent by the film's end is almost a certainty - a plot progression which would, ironically enough, piss off the PC crowd if it were to turn out to be true.

And one thing I will say about the whole MeToo thing is that it doesn't really need to be addressed. But that doesn't mean ideas like the above should be off the table completely. They're not mutually exclusive. Articles will focus on it for clicks, especially when it comes to Bond.

But alas, without any confirmation, I'm just spitballing here.

I feel maybe I'm in the minority here, nothing against anyone who thinks different by the way.
I just love Bond being solo, in his element, just him, his wits against the enemy. Sometimes I feel almost cheated when we wait so long nowadays for these films and you get a lot of sub plots that don't relate to Bond himself or the story directly.

No hate to the MeToo movement but it doesn't need to be addressed in Bond's world. As soon as you start pining for the audiences approval with sub plots like that, you only round the corner for an official voting system for the next James Bond actor.
In my mind James Bond should be the only agent with the code number 007.

Anyways, sorry for the long post, even though this last rumour/update has me somewhat nervous I still trust Eon, and Cary Fukunaga to deliver a great film. Roll on the next update

    My feelings exactly.

I think the thing to keep in mind would be that with this whole #MeToo scenario, female writers and even male writers who are acknowledging it and treating with respect, aren't going to bring it into a film as subplot or a plot device.

Please don't expect a scene thats underlining thread is #MeToo, because that won't be the case.

These writers don't want to inject this as a huge plot point of the film. If this whole situation with Phoebe Waller-Bridge (who is great by the way) is true, then she is there to flesh out the female characters, not shove feminism into your mouths until you swallow and it digests.

Exactly. And also important to remember, the Bond series has managed to address similar changes in societal norms with the M character already, and rather seamlessly too.

I'm wondering why they're sending it to Italy already if filming starts in August and yet, according to this government website: https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ViewVehicle, the vehicle needs a new MOT certificate in July. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't these tests need to be conducted in the UK?

    Wow....

Looks like Eon are reading my posts. I wrote back in November 2015 that Bond should return to Jamaica at the opening of the film here:
    https://www.mi6community.com/discussion/13322/realistic-serious-story-ideas-for-bond-25-to-be-used-by-eon-productions-ltd/p11

Then I wrote in March 2018 that they should introduce a female 007 who should coax Bond out of retirement:

A female 007? Is her name Bond because she was assigned the code name? ;)
Pierce please I came up with the female 007 long before you and again the plot is fairly obvious again taking elements of Moonraker and you only live twice is really the best well only way to get out of the hole they are in

I will put money down if it’s female agent
    Gala brand is her name

On the one hand that all sounds fairly believeable and not at all million miles away from other rumours we've heard (Logan inspired, young MI6 agent Bond girl, etc). But if this is true then I am wondering how it fits in with the Norway stuff.
We all assumed that the kid would be a young Madeline, and that would've made sense. She's got a past and something coming back to haunt her would have been a good plot device to get Bond out of retirement. But this article makes it sound more likely the mission is unrelated to Madeline, since it's the new 007 who calls on Bond to come back. I could be wrong and it could all link together (she could come to see Madeline as well as Bond), but that to me indicates that Madeline will just be there in Jamaica and her and her past won't play a massive role in the story. If that's true, then who will the kid be?

Think I might bow out of these sorts of threads until the trailer now anyway. I read the SP leaks because I couldn't help myself and still really enjoyed the film, but in hindsight I do wish I'd kept more of it as a surprise. So I'll watch the trailers, but I don't think I'll be following the production side of things at all this time. Feel like I might know too much already.

Interesting developments. To those concerned, I trust in Babs that if this development is true, she wouldn't allow politics to be shoved down our throats.

If these developments are true, I'll be very happy. They are original and interesting. And it'll be cool to have a woman working on the Bond screenplay. For inclusion, but also to add a feminine perspective to the script.

Re Waller Bridge: Really? REALLY? Yes she is talented. Fine. But WRONG for this. Dare I say a TAD overexposed at the moment, too? Either we WANT Bond films or we DON'T (We do!). If you are THIS determined though to metatextualise him out of existence.. Just kill him off ffs.

There are PLENTY of ways to have a post #metoo 007: just look at Dalton era Bond (he still has romances but in a sensitive and vulnerable manner). See also: Vesper in Casino Royale?

And there are a DOZEN lady script doctors out there that have been honing their craft for years to help. Please let this be total bullshit. Please? For me? You have THE strongest lady producer in Hollywood, second only to Kathleen Kennedy (Barbara Broccoli).

You have a possible twist in Lea as Blofeld to put Bond in his place without emasculation. No need for this. PLus? It will DELAY things, FURTHER. Procrastination loses opportunity: trust me!

    Rant dun..nanite ;) x

Honestly, nonsense of a female 007 will be enough for me to write the film off entirely. Given the way countless other long-running franchises have eagerly jumped off cliffs to spite long-time fans, it sadly wouldn't be a shock to see Bond follow suit.

@JJPMurphy Her involvement (if true) in no way means a #MeToo "metatextualised" Bond film, she could be there to lend a female perspective on the female characters and this is a great opportunity for any female writer as there hasn't been any female writers involved in a Bond film before this. Again, if it's true, I think it would be very interesting and a positive thing because it's making progress and a great opportunity for a great writer.

Although I kinda don't think it is true because she's been in the limelight recently because of Series 2 of both Fleabag and Killing Eve, although she's not writing this season of Killing Eve. Also, it may just be stemming from the rumours of Jodie Comer's involvement, which I also doubt is true.

Not sure why you'd propose that.

Anytime Bond goes to Jamaica, you can be sure the movie will be a winner. I wish all of Quantum of Solace had taken place in Haiti, with Bond battling voodoo villains.

    I don't exactly hate this
    female "007" replacement
plot if true. I haven't fainted in awe of it either.

To me it sounds more like a plot John Gardner might have come up with rather than Fleming. Which leads me to the realization I feel most of the post Dalton Bond films are more John Gardner in spirit rather than Fleming, with the exception of CR.

john gardener was GREAT! He managed to keep Bond frozen in time, of his time and yet modern whilst keeping the canon. Yes, he got convoluted on occasion and repeated some rushed motifs; his sex scenes were awful, too. But he gave us great baddies with relevant and compelling PLOTS and it is THAT which frankly has evaded every Craig movie since Casino Royale? Scorpius is a favourite; Role of Honour and No Deals.. as well as Licence Renewed..all good! I'd prefer they just adapted something LIKE that than dialed waller bridge, frankly..sorry..i know. x

I'm a pretty big Gardner fan. I love most of his titles and many of his characters were interesting enough I'm surprised Eon hasn't used Gardner's work for the film series.
