that Kings, LA riots movie does not appeal to me in any way... Craig's card is filling up

Is this a recent interview? If so, it's reassuring to know he hasn't completely ruled it out yet.

Not as recent as the story about his new movie with Halle Berry.

It would be great if he did return but it would be all for naught if all of the other elements, including script, direction, music, etc., are not there.
It may seem simplistic but I say put as much of the Casino Royale band back together and let Craig, Campbell and Arnold bookend this series.

I added both to the timeline.

See following reply. Deadline: Hollywood tweaked its phrasing. (edit)

I'd love to see a modern Goldfinger remake, ONLY if it would absolutely have the same magic and great ratings as the original, which, of course, would be near impossible.

That's funny because that's the one I would put off doing! It's just so iconic. It would be interesting though to see a modern take. But I feel that way about all of them.
  • I should note Deadline Hollywood, when it originally posted about Kings (the LA Riot movie) said Craig "is set to star." The site has now altered the phrasing to say "is in talks to star."

    Here's that link:

"is in talks" hopefully he is not deciding on that and is waiting to hear about Bond 25

Will be interesting to see if he actually fully commits to these film projects, or pulls out of them again like he did post Skyfall.

Neither 'Lucky Logan' or 'Kings' sound appealing to me. But I could be wrong, they may end up being really good. But of course, I'd still rather see him as Bond one last time.

I don't think signing onto another project indicates he will or won't do Bond. He did after all do four films in between QOS and SF. And if this Kings movie goes through, he'll now have four projects in the works (with Purity, Logan Lucky, and Othello on Broadway).

He does seem to be keeping busy, but if he and EON want to make another Bond, then they'll make it happen. For all we know, EON told him not to expect any movement on Bond until, say, mid-2017, and to do whatever he wants until then.

I think Craig is definitely done with Bond. I would have liked to see him do one more, if they had a good script and great director, but his commitments are just to extensive to make me think he will have time for 25. He kept noting that he spent 2 years on SP. How can he do 20 TV eps, 2 movies and months of theater work and still find time to begin work on 25 which will likely go into serious pre-production in a year.

My biggest concern is that if that is the case, the rumors about Hiddleston are possibly true. I have always had a negative feeling about him from seeing some of his interviews. For all his talent and intelligence I always found something phony about him. His conduct over the last two weeks where he has pimped this so called Swift relationship, deliberately posing daily for paps in the most opportunistic and cheesy way just sucks. Babs may be going for a more charming, posh style to return to the earlier lighter tone, but at least choose an actor that isn't an embarrassment. I'd be happy with just about anyone now but him.

If Craig isn't finished as Bond then it's clear that Bond 25 is years away because Craig's schedule is getting ridiculously busy. And remember, (like he did on Skyfall & Spectre)Craig works with the director and writers for a good year BEFORE filming even starts. So how on earth is he going to juggle all of that? I am very surprised than neither EON or MGM have said anything about Bond 25 by now. For a massive franchise it's a bit perplexing. Just wonder if we're looking at a long hiatus like we did between Licence To Kill and Goldeneye. I really, really hope that's not the case. Either way I'd say Craig is done with Bond now.

Just for the fun of it, I voted for 'a woman' as the next Bond in the poll at the bottom of that recently posted showbiz-news article.

Currently 74% think Craig should come back. 12 % want Hiddle. 6% want Elba and 6% want a woman (including myself). 3% want Turner.

This is good to hear, even though I want him out.
As for the new movie - IF his committment changed to ? due to Bond, it can only mean, a decision is around the corner, as they won't wait months.

Certainly hope they're not waiting for Craig, we had a long wait for SPECTRE because they waited for Mendes, a mistake in my opinion, they need to get on course for a Bond every two years (I'm not getting any younger!) and go with a new team, new Bond, new writers and new director. Get it done! No more navel-gazing, missions, missions, missions!

2 years will NEVER happen again. You don't need a crystal ball to know THAT.

I know if I were head of a corporation which made a guaranteed billion dollars per movie, I'd be wanting to make as many Bond movies as possible! Doesn't make sense. Bond is a cash cow right now. If there isn't an official statement by the end of the year confirming release date, director and Bond actor, then EON / MGM have lost the plot. The Bond brand is too Important and too lucrative to put to sleep.

It was promised when the last distribution deal was done, and could have been achieved if Babs and MikeyBoy didn't wait for Mendes!

2 years will happen again, atleast for the first 2 films of the next actor. EON will always try to establish an actor by making 2 movies in quick successions.

It actually might. Setting up story plans, script and location scouting isn't that hard. And let's say if a Bond film is to be released in a certain year, they only would've had completed production six months ago. It's not a big deal for Bond, seeing as they don't rely on heavy use of CGI, unlike big brand companies (Marvel, Warners) do with their products. I think the Bond people are pretty organized in that.

Yep. It's happened to every single Bond actor thus far. In fact, Connery and Moore had their second film a year after their first.

That isn't necessary, though, and even if he did it, it wouldn't be a full-time job or anything. What would he do - have conversations with them every now and then? That wouldn't mean he couldn't work on anything else.

  • re: 2-year gap. Eon doesn't want a 2-year gap, it prefers 3. Back when MGM was in bankruptcy, it said it planned to get Bond films back on a 2-year cycle. Safely out of bankruptcy, it says Bond films on a 3- or 4-year cycle.

I'll go with the version according to which a busy schedule for Craig still doesn't exclude another Bond film for him. On the contrary, it fits the "3-4 year cycle" Barber talked about, obviously providing breathing air for their leading man. I wouldn't be surprised and wouldn't mind either, if B25 came in 2019 as Craig's farewell

'Lucky Logan' starts shooting in Atlanta in August. Then presumably, he will start working on 'Othello' not long after that.

Hopefully, once he gets back to working on a film, we might get some more solid news about his future in the franchise.

I like a 3 year cycle. But four years makes me think the series is dying. Thats only 2 PER DECADE, and probably means the average bond tenure will be 3 films. There is no reason a studio committed to one film series requires 4 years to release each film, even if introducing a new actor.

"One of the great things about the movie is that we could bring in Bond's past and make him confront it."

You say "great," I say "bad."
