    LOL. That's a good point.

I honestly don't know what's going on in the writing department. Unless it's an adaption of a Fleming book they seem to just cock it up. I like SF as we have a Bond with a wing down like in the Fleming books but the plot itself is useless. They seem to think that they can redeem themselves by throwing in some office politics. As others have said, get rid of P and W and get some talented writers who've really proved themselves. Well, they decided to go with Logan (well, I don't know what he's written outside of that crappy star Trek film, I'm just presuming he has a talent for the craft) and he messed it up apparently which was a bit of bad luck for Eon as they did choose to go with someone different.

He created and co wrote Penny Dreadful which has good reviews (which has no less than six Bond alumni)

It will be interesting to see if we do get anything Bond news related come October 5. There's always something EON have shared on the date in the past, whether it's big Bond celebration events in 2012 or the release of teases for SP like Sam Smith's track on Bond Day in 2014.

It's also interesting that just two days after James Bond Day Daniel will be having that Beyond Bond interview. It'd be a treat to get news on where the direction of the series is going on the 5th, with Dan able to comment on it in more detail (or as much as he can) on the 7th.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but it doesn't seem too "out there" to consider.

Doesn't seem to "out there" but at the risk of sounding negative, I won't be surprised if when Craig is asked about Bond, if at all, he just replies with an "I don't know what's going on..."

Beyond Bond could mean he's talking about anything else other than Bond

Well, we're almost a year off SP's release, and he said he wanted at least 6 months to not think about Bond, so when next he's asked we may in fact get a more substantial response than last year's "I don't knows" or "We'll sees."

But without a distribution deal it's hard to be certain of the future, unless the deal is the announcement

I really don't see how they can bill it with 'Bond' in the title and then not address the heard of elephants in the room.

It will be like 'An afternoon with Alan Partridge' when Sue Cook fails to turn up if they start off with 'We might as well say this now; Daniel won't be answering any questions on Bond. So if anyone wants to leave now's the time.'

Numerous people will walk out because - sorry to break it to you Dan - at the end of the day nobody really gives that much of a toss about Purity, Logan Lucky or Othello.

You can't trade on the Bond name to drum up interest in your little Q&A and then say it's off limits.

Absolutely, just like the one promised far and wide this past June. Oh wait...

As I said, it took over 2 years after DAD for Brosnan to be officially confirmed as quitting the part, and not be linked to Bond 21 anymore. Of course, that doesn't mean we won't get some news in a month' time, but we shouldn't be surprised if we are in for several more months of this 'waiting game'.

    You are all delusional.

    Or I am.

Anyway, personally I am not expecting a new Bond movie before 2019, 4 years it will be no matter if Craig returns or not.
With all the other commitments that Craig and BB have, 2018 is not possible.

But if Craig resigns, 2019 even is optimistic.

    2020 sounds more like it.

2018 is still possible as long as they get something locked down in the distribution department. MGM is the key here, in my view.

Mi6 has an interesting 'choice of words' as its headline regarding Craig's return/non-return to the role!

    https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/daniel-craig-pissed-off-mgm-with-negative-publicity-reports-160910

    ;))

    This is quite interesting:
MGM's negotiating position on any distribution deal for Bond just got significantly weaker this month due to the disastrous box-office of their 'Ben-Hur' remake which is set to lose about $100m.

Wow - MGM always has its problems!

Anyone who green lighted this 'remake' (a term I use loosely) and thought it would be successful should perhaps reconsider their involvement in the film industry.

Come to think of it, the same goes for that Ghostbusters remake, which coincidentally was produced by Sony, Eon's other 'partner'.

MGM desperately needs to completely replace all its people in higher places.

As for Ghostbusters. I agree. It's a film that was certain to not high BO heights. Having said that I LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT damn...

I'm really not expecting a Bond film before 2019 to be honest.

Sony and MGM are in shambles; and EoN creatively are in a damp squidgy hole. Things just look so bleak at the moment and I'm not seeing there to be a quick turn around time on things.

    Sounds realistic.

Dan probably knows this and reasons he'll be too old by then so the reason it is entitled 'Beyond Bond' is for him to announce he is done.

I hope not but if it turns out to be his resignation from the role interview then be it and at least we will now one fact concerning Bond 25.

But then, EON which means BB really, should announce the next Bond within months to end the speculation games.

You know I liked Ghostbusters too. I would have preferred the same characters return even if recast but still I enjoyed this version way more than I expected.

End of 2018 with Craig. But, I expect a cagey response and not an announcement in his upcoming interview.

I just want to know who their creative team is... and I want to know now. And that sucks for me because we're probably talking next year for those announcements. My hope and enthusiasm is hanging on it.

EON's averaged out RT score with Craig is 79.5%. You have the best since Connery and that's your rating... that's called "cocking it up."

Factor in Brosnan's era it drops it to 70%, which is surprising because I think they're being generous there...

There's no way we won't get news on October 7th. Craig is part of a program called "Beyond Bond". He's prepared. He's made a decision. I'd honestly be very disappointed in Craig if he gives an unsure response by then.

Agreed. If a "Beyond Bond" event is occurring with Daniel Craig, and we're nowhere closer to having any clue as to where the future of the series will go once the event ends, I'll be disappointed.

I can imagine him not saying anything too revelatory. If MGM/EON haven't got a script or a distributor lined up, there's nothing he can do except say that he's waiting for that (since the timing is probably up in the air) prior to making a final decision.

@bondjames, at least that's something - we don't know anything at this point: is he staying? Is he leaving? Is he waiting to make a decision? Has he already decided? If he confirms that he's waiting for the distribution issue to be settled (along with awaiting a script, possibly a director), then that tells us he's still interested in doing another.

That's a good point. It will at least be something more than we know now, that's for sure.

The Craig era will go down in the ratings with the years, the same happened to the Brosnan years.
Imdb: Skyfall dropped to 7.8 by now and will drop at least another 0.1-0.3 points within the next few years. Casino Royale also is slowly going down, 8.0 at the moment.

It's normal newer films will fare better and go down with time. Also most of the ratings are done by younger people who will find new content always better than old classics.
FRWL is at 7.5 which seems way too low.

So I can't take RT Metacritic and Imdb very seriously.

Which part are they "being generous there" when the Brosnan era actually elevated the series from the swamp the franchise was sinking in? GoldenEye alone brought a fresh and new spirit to the series audience-wise as well as take-wise. The films earned more and more by the time they released new entries per turn. Not to mention the positive reviews some of the then-contemporary critics gave the films, including Die Another Day. See Roger Ebert's review.

I'll be surprised if he comes out with a direct answer: "yes, I've given up the role. I'm never coming back."*

It's hard to come back when you say that although Sean Connery 'came back' with Never Say Never Again!

If Bond 25 is delayed until 2019 then I can't see Daniel Craig coming back. Four years is enough time for the audience to prepare for a new actor and the appeal of Craig's Bond will not be so immediate in people's minds. People will be open to the new guy, I reckon.

*But as mentioned in some of the posts above - the title of the show is "Beyond Bond" so that might be an obvious clue he's done with the role!

The title 'Beyond Bond' could mean anything. Maybe Craig is there to talk about all his projects other than the next Bond film, meaning he'll talk about Purity, the Soderbergh film and whatnot.
