Which part are they "being generous there" when the Brosnan era actually elevated the series from the swamp the franchise was sinking in? GoldenEye alone brought a fresh and new spirit to the series audience-wise as well as take-wise. The films earned more and more by the time they released new entries per turn. Not to mention the positive reviews some of the then-contemporary critics gave the films, including Die Another Day. See Roger Ebert's review.

TLD and LTK were great movies and way above Brosnan films. I don't need to see Roger Ebert's review, I saw the Brosnan movies and they were all varying degrees of terrible. DAD deserves a negative number. Wait, are you being facetious? You got me.

Completely subjective, if you ask me.

Keep in mind that 'Bond and Beyond ' is the name of another fan community and is also the name of a travelling symphony orchestra which goes around the world and plays the Bond title songs, complete with singers standing in for Bassey etc. If you've not seen it, I recommend it. It's also the name of a Bond photo book by Terry O'Neill.

So they may have just got the idea of the title from that .

@bondjames, I highly doubt they use "Bond" in the event title if there are no plans to discuss the future of Bond.

    Quite.

This would be done with EON's blessing. Even if all we get from Dan is 'I'm still waiting to see what happens with the distribution deal' he would have discussed what he might say with Babs.

Unless of course he's already resigned in which case he can say what he likes.

Sounds like a bit of 'bait' marketing to me. Gets the tongues wagging and keeps the franchise in the news for a bit.

It's not called Bond and Beyond, it's called Beyond Bond.

'Bond and Beyond' is the tag for TSWLM - which is where those mentioned above have taken their name.

Yes, I realize that. My point was the use of Beyond. Bond and Beyond is a play on a term/word that's been used a lot in association with Bond, as far back to TSWLM, it seems

    FFS.

    And Avatar remember that one?

Presume some said 'There's a script being talked Avatar but it's all top secret.' And some tabloid mug put two and two together and came up with the new Bond film rather than Cameron's smurf epic.

That is your opinion just like everyone else's and doesn't hold absolute objective of a fact that you seem to be directing towards the Brosnan era. Whether you like them or not, the films have given their results financial-wise, popularity-wise among the others. TLD and LTK didn't make half of what TND, Brosnan's weakest film in terms of box office gross, did. That also got positive reviews within articles dating back to their own release dates. Check them in case you want. And last time I checked, their then-contemporary reviews weren't that great, either. I am speaking about the results that are already documented. Not slamming nor promoting a personal subjective perspective.

    How's that for facetious?

End of 2018 with Craig. But, I expect a cagey response and not an announcement in his upcoming interview.

I just want to know who their creative team is... and I want to know now. And that sucks for me because we're probably talking next year for those announcements. My hope and enthusiasm is hanging on it.

EON's averaged out RT score with Craig is 79.5%. You have the best since Connery and that's your rating... that's called "cocking it up."

Factor in Brosnan's era it drops it to 70%, which is surprising because I think they're being generous there...

The Craig era will go down in the ratings with the years, the same happened to the Brosnan years.
Imdb: Skyfall dropped to 7.8 by now and will drop at least another 0.1-0.3 points within the next few years. Casino Royale also is slowly going down, 8.0 at the moment.

It's normal newer films will fare better and go down with time. Also most of the ratings are done by younger people who will find new content always better than old classics.
FRWL is at 7.5 which seems way too low.

So I can't take RT Metacritic and Imdb very seriously.

I think you are presuming a bit too much here. "Casino Royale" actually was at 7.9 in 2014....and went up again during the same year. The 8.0-rating has been rock-solid since 2008 more or less.

Same with "Skyfall"....has been at 7.8 for several years now.

And why is that? If you know a bit of statistics, there isn't much chance of these movies sinking anymore. Simply, because the voting sample has become too big. Look at the amount of voters. All well past the 275,000 IMD members who voted. It's like an exponential curve going downwards. If you received votes from 275,000 people between 2012 and 2016, the hances becomes very slim that between 2016 and 2012 another 275,00 will vote. It will most likely be fewer than 50,000 voters, hence the already rock solid ratings.

I think the composer will depend on the director that they ultimately settle on. Most acclaimed directors tend to have a preferred composer who they work with often.

Yeah, he's a great sport (responded to a couple of mine as well). He has also expressed his love for the franchise and his desire to do another one if given the opportunity, which would be ideal.

I haven't heard anything from Arnold recently? Does he still compose? The last I heard about him was The Olympics. If he is to return to the world of Bond, I would think he would need a few heavy hitters under his belt, given EON's recent penchant for chasing big name talent.

    ???

What does Arnold have to prove to EON? He's only just scored five films for them before, and it sounds like their working relationship went perfectly smoothly. The only reason he wasn't asked for Skyfall/Spectre is because Mendes wanted Newman, and Arnold was publicly gracious in response to that. What exactly does he have to prove to EON again?

And yes, he's still composing for Sherlock and various lower profile films. Over the past couple years, he's also been putting on concerts of his body of film work.

Interesting. What do you think of his more recent work?

I'm still of the opinion that the choice of composer will be impacted greatly by the director and by the composer's recent body of work. Apart from a few legends who can go on composing great themes until the end, artist's style change and the quality of their output also varies. It's been 8 years since QoS.

Sherlock, of course, is excellent fun. Voyage of the Dawn Treader featured strong moments of orchestral action and adventure writing. The sci-fi comedy Paul also provided room for some surprisingly moving music from Arnold. That's the extent of my familiarity with his work post-QoS.

Composers' styles do tend to change over time, but I certainly wouldn't say the majority of composers that I'm familiar with see a drop-off in quality as time goes on. At any rate, as many seem to be of the opinion that QoS was one of Arnold's best Bond scores—if not his best—I see no reason to doubt he will continue to excel with Bond.

I am of the opinion that QoS was Arnold's best score as well. I'm just not that impressed with some of his other Bond scores outside of CR, and that's why I'm more curious about his recent output.

I wasn't aware that he had done Sherlock even though I've watched the first three seasons. I'll rewatch them soon to get a better idea of my take on his current form.

To tell you the truth, even though CR and QoS had great layouts, CR is my least favourite he ever scored. Almost no musical cue in it other than suspense and moody blow-ups. In QoS, the classicism of the old Bond tune is sort of (sort of) revived.

I think to this day, Arnold's best score in my honest opinion remains TND. His first.
