I'm one of the minority who likes the ending, for several reasons. I like the fact it subverts expectations to have the villain's base destroyed with relative ease. I also like the visuals back in London, the vacant MI6, Bond atop the ledge outside M's office, the cross-cutting between MI6 and the CNS, even the score is better here and the little reference to the DAF novel with Bond shooting down the helicopter is cute. I even like the gallery scene, as Bond stalks his way through the old MI6. Yeah, it's a tad hokey, but I've always liked that in my Bond films and it is particularly bizarre, unsettling and otherworldly. There's a nightmarish aesthetic throughout this whole denouement. It's all pretty unique and sticks in my mind. For those reasons I'm not convinced I'd have preferred the route one notion of padding out the lair scenes, building to a large scale firefight, which we've seen plenty of times before.

I agree. Maybe could have done more with the helicopter boat sequence.. but IMO the London climax felt fresh not necessarily a rehash of old.

Now the whole driving off into the sunset with Madeleine was puzzling to me. The great albatross for B25.

Spectre is a good Bond film.

Perhaps I wasn't keen on Bond being captured, masked and then escaping and ripping off the mask. Seems like it was almost taken out of the RN ending.

Same. It just... didn't sit well with me and was felt forced.

I love the ending as well.

Ok I see that and yea both films even almost looked the same at the ending. But I can't fault SP since both films were in production at almost the same time or at least close enough in time.

I enjoyed RN but sometimes I wish I had seen SP first. That's not a jab at SP by the way.

Oh of course. Remember RN got pushed ahead to summer. Otherwise, would we be asking the question did RN copy SP instead of the other way around. The whole being captured part just didn't fit in a Bond film. Not to mention it only lasted what like two minutes? Definitely something that probably could have been eliminated.

    RN as in Rogue Nation?

Took me sometime to figure out.

So you're not a fan of the laser table scene in GF then?

Sorry my memory must be eluding me, I've only seen Spectre once. When/how did Bond get masked and rip it off?

The vehicle Bond and M were in was hit by a Spectre henchman truck when they were on their way to apprehend Denbigh. The goons capture Bond but M slips away. They bring 007 in front of the old MI-6 building with the intention of escorting him inside, and suddenly Bond breaks free, disables them and unmasks himself, as well as breaking the plastic ties attached to his wrists.

Yes :) ..for the longest I thought everyone was comparing Bond to a nurse.

I absolutely love the GF scene. However, the scene in SP wasn't as tense as almost having your nuts zapped to shreds. Perhaps I should re-judge that sequence once home video is released.

Yes it's one of the cooler moves on the part of Bond. I personally am glad it's there.

Bond is in a car with Tanner, Q and M if I remember. They are blindsided by SP goons, Bond is captured, masked and thrown into the back of a van. Then they get out of the van and Bond disables the goons, breaks free of the zip ties, removes the masks. Then I believe he looks up at the old MI6 building.

Anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong.

I was just addressing the comment you made about "The whole being captured part just didn't fit in a Bond film". His capture is not disimilar to the GF scene with the goons running him off the road.

He also gets captured in Casino Royale, both book and film.

Yeah I probably should have rephrased that because he seems like he is captured in most of the films.

There are multiple instances, 'Whisper, take him to the farm', 'Chloryl Hydrate!'... etc. Just found the notion of him being captured 'not fitting in a Bond film' odd.

It wasn't my intention. There are many instances in which I like the capture/escape sequences. GE/CR being my personal favourites. Perhaps I just didn't like the SP capture scene, in which I absolutely loved the film in general. Sits at #3 for me.

Off topic, but check out my fan script for my idea of a SPECTRE sequel.

Not sure if there will be one but I am coming up with my own fan story of what I would want it to be like.

    Blofeld IS a demon.

    Make that three.

I'm in the camp that the ending was forced, overblown and hokey. If they had gone the RN route and made it smaller scale, suspenseful with Bond going after C (who was perhaps now aided by Hinx, but not Blofeld) and make it a simpler ending it would make the film so much better.

No, the ending was great. It had depth and tension, and it all came together nicely, just like a good ending should.

Not to mention that Newman's score shines here.

Bond is captured in Octopussy, AVTAK, and TLD as well. Getting captured is very common in the series.

For sure. I'd like to see the next one avoid that.
