Yup I can predict all of that based on a Reddit post and if I am right on all of it I will be in for another middle of the road Bond film
Speaking to USA Today to promote the DVD release of Daniel Craig’s first 007 film, Campbell said, “After GoldenEye, I was asked to do subsequent Bonds, but I declined because it felt as if I’d be repeating myself. But this one is based on a Bond that’s more interesting. To be honest, I would just say I’d never say never.”
Please bring back Campbell :-c
It would be a dream come true.

There is a new 2017 book out on it, entitled: "The Geographies, Genders and Geopolitics of James Bond" by Klaus Dodds, Professor of Geopolitics, Royal Holloway and Lisa Funnell, Assistant Professor, Women’s and Gender Studies, University of Oklahoma
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Geographies-Genders-Geopolitics-James-Bond/dp/1137570237/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480434033&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Geographies,+Genders+and+Geopolitics+of+James+Bond
£66.99!!! Might not be buying that book.
FWIW, it appears to be the same Reddit user, "CashleyPersia," who posted this five months ago:

That post also referenced Steven Knight (then writing, now not writing).
I think the problem comes at the difference between seriousness and darkness. You can have a dark comedy, but you can't have a serious comedy. I think there is a certain space to write a low key spy thriller with a bit of bombast back. However, it would be better if Bond wasn't a superhero. What if the only peice of Bonds pysche that he has left to hold onto is his sense of humour? That and his survival instinct and a sense of deep seated nationalism that Fleming wrote about.
Of course, you wouldn't have to refer to this in the film, just subtely allude to it using inference. That way, the humour and irreverence won't seem so forced and out of place. There would be a justification, and anyone interested would read that into it, and it would seem more natural as a consequence.
You must have noticed the calls to return to standalone adventures, with less emphasis on pyschoanalysis and the Scooby gang. I think a lot of people just want a tradition Bond story for Bond 25. One without some sort of "this time, its personal" gimmick, or killing off someone for shock value.
Well in that case, you're right and I most certainly agree. I think what people are really looking for at the end of the day is a great presentation on how a Bond story is told.
Looking at SP, with a few changes here and there it could have been a near great film but as it is, for me it's easily one of the worst in the series and this is a film that reintroduced a lot of classic elements; it's just that they were horribly executed.
However, I think it's definitely a good time to go back to the elements that you suggested but based on a template of very good and sensible story telling. The closest we got to that within the last 20 odd years is CR.
Despite the fact that I really enjoyed Skyfall, I can't get excited about a Mendes return. Largely in part because it almost certainly means a continuation of the Blofeld/Swann story which they butchered badly in Spectre. Leaving the cinema with casual fans I do not recall anyone saying they 'can't wait for the next one...' instead the comments I recall were 'the ending was a bit flat' or 'I'm not sure what the ending means, is Bond done?'
If EON want to continue in the vain of joining up future films they really have to invest in forward planning and have the courage of their convictions to leave us with a cliffhanger or a dramatic hook that leaves the audience wanting more. It seemed to me that with Spectre they played it safe by leaving us with Craig's 'Swann' song film or a set up for an adaptation of the YOLT book. But by aiming in the middle they hit neither.
My personal preference would be to start over with a soft reboot for a new actor. Thank DC for reinvigorating the franchise, bringing new layers to the character and for two wonderful films in CR and SF then move on.
Welcome Michael! I very much agree with your suggestion of moving on with another actor. Is there anyone in particular that you would want for the role??
So why change the actor when the incumbent actually has the edge you're looking for??????
It's a fair question! It's largely because of the decision to retcon which worked so badly in Spectre. It hasn't left them many places to go in terms of story. I just can't get exited about the prospect of continuing the Blofeld/Swann storylines which I think a DC bond #25 would have to do. I also get the impression (from his comments post SP) that DC has lost a bit of hunger for the project.
We can't be sure whether it will be a masterpeice. Campbell isn't confirmed yet.
I, on the other hand, hate when trolls start writing bullshit on the web, especially because there's lots of idiots who're going to trust them and will spread their bullshit everywhere.
Personally I wouldn't be too upset with Shatterhand ( a third Mendes bond film about the struggle bond faces trying to leave his old world behind while forces beyond his control are forcing him back) like Spectre and Skyfall it will be middle of the road at best for me but hey I lived through Casino Royale and Quantum so at least I had two brilliant bond films
Welcome
Sadly true, the Reddit topic sounds like someone putting 2 & 2 together and getting Never Say Never Again /:)
