Barbara Broccoli is not giving the fans "shit." The story from SPECTRE obviously needs to be continued so she's trying put together the greatest bond script ever for Daniel to return.

Yes she is giving the fans 'shit'. I am not questioning what she knows, or what has been accomplished. I am not one of those doom-sayers who are acting as if nothing has happened behind closed doors since SP. I am saying it is pure crap from EON that we still do not know what YEAR Bond 25 is coming. I am not denying a whole lot of stuff has happened concerning Bond 25's production. I also do not care if Bond 25 is 2, 3, or 4 years away. I am not questioning that a 2018 release can happen. All I want is for EON to say 'Yes, we are aiming for a 2018 (or 20xx) release'. It is frankly unnaceptable that us fans have no shred of evidence on which year is Bond 25 coming. Even if they don't have an exact date, at least give us the year.

Their waiting till they have a director actor and release date ready to bundle together in a press release. A bit odd just to report an intended release date, don't you think?

That was the point though. Harris' Moneypenny was never meant to be "Bond's equal." Her character is unfit for fieldwork and was never destined for that type of persona. Which is why she belongs behind a desk.

You do understand english? I did not ask for a specific day and month. I am asking for a potential YEAR. I am also not asking for a 100% confirmation that is coming in 2018. All I want is whether or not a 2018 release can happen. QOS was touted for 2008 by EON shortly before CR was released. SF was aimed for 2011 before the MGM trouble. I don't need to know for a fact that B25 is coming in next year. Just tell us if they are trying to aim for that year.

The issue is, Eon aren't going to release a statement saying "We hope to release the next one for fall 2018." On top of that, absolutely nothing is in stone until MGM sorts out the distribution hold-up. Barbara will be promoting her new movie, Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool, in a few months, where the constant press exposure will undoubtedly have her faced with some inevitable questions surrounding Bond. Whether she gives in is anyone's guess.

Do you understand the movie industry? They don't just put out a release date for a big film like bond with no director or actor attached!

'Captain Marvel' will release on March 8th, 2019. No director attached.

I don't mean to cut into your debate, I just found it funny you'd question his knowledge on the film industry, while subsequently showing you know absolutely nothing about how the film industry works.

I was referring to EON, specifically. Can you name a time they announced the release date for a new film without a director or star attached?

QOS was confirmed for a may 2008 release (later pushed to Oct 2008) before CR was released and long before Forster was confirmed to direct.

I'm in agreement with @daltoncraig here. The fact is, we don't have a modicum of information as to what's going on outside of the MgM distribution deal. Even with the whole MgM restructuring we knew definitively what was going on but right now, we don't know if Craig is coming back, we don't have any idea as to where EoN wants to take the next movie other than a bunch of wild conjecture and wishful thinking. Back in 2015 Wilson at least said that the distribution issue would be sorted by around the spring time of 2016. Nothing happened; but at least he said something and gave us some sort of window for progression. Now, there's absolutely zero communication from the studio execs.

It was mere weeks after Rogue Nation was released that they announced the next MI movie. Other studios are locking in dates or are at least have an abstract year of release. The announcement of films being in development are being conveyed, irrespective of how things turn out, at least there's a dialogue going on. With Bond there's zilch being shared and tbh, I wouldn't mind any of this if there was a relatively recent track record that proved that at the end of the day whenever the film comes out, it'll be worth it but EoN don't have my trust like that these days. With 4 and 3 year gaps that delivered for me disappointing movies, it's a wonder why they'rw being so excessively secretive if there's anything to be kept secret at all.

I love Bond but I'm also a realist and dont always agree with the decisions made for the films; and quite frankly I think the property has been mismanaged for some time, too long actually and complacency settled in comfortably. Longer gaps between movies doesn't add prestige to the franchise, contrary to what some may think and EoN need to be better producers. The image they've recreated for themselves is that they've subjugated themselves to the mercy of their lead actor and recent director. That's just poor form tbh. They also need to realise and reconnect with audiences as to what made Bond special in the first place and why he's endured decades for so long. Feminist and SJWs aren't factors. Audiences will see Bond films regardless. Let's say for arguments sake Bond was R-rated, in this day and age, providing it's actually a good movie it would still do over $750 million. The Bond films started out being somewhat controversial anyway, EoN need to own their property and unashamedly make great films about James Bond, a man and his world that's all about the excitingly good, bad and ugly.

Even if the overall state of what's going on with the subsequent movie(s) is lacking precision; at the very least it's not asking much to know if Craig will return or not.

Could this be the first real news that Craig's Bond era is over?

    Neal Purvis on Bond 25:
'Spectre felt like it closed off a certain way of doing Bond. And I think whatever happens next will be quite different.’

    http://metro.co.uk/2017/01/27/donald-trump-may-have-ruined-the-possibility-of-another-great-james-bond-movie-6410019/

We might be in a 'A VIew To A KIll/Living Daylights' or 'Die Another Day/Casino Royale' transition period? If that turns out to be the case I think that will mean a new actor as James Bond.

I hope what he means is the Roger Moore Bond, they tried to recreate in SPECTRE.

Don't believe we've had any "real news" thus far, aside from the news that there is no news.

The MI6 website ran the text of that press release. It came out in July 2006. URL is here for those who want to see it for themselves.:

But guys! On the flip side, we will be able to see "Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool", I for one am extremely excited about it.

Shes not saying anything because she is likely trying to get a script ready for Craig to read & formally accept. Also the publicity of the Spectre leaks will impact what gets trickled out next time around.

Once they start contacting actors, agents become involved. I suspect that's at least one source of previous disclosures about casting. In the case of Ben Whishaw, his agent disclosed the actor's casting as Q. Eon denied that for months afterward.

I think a movie about Gloria Grahame sounds cool. I'm definitely going to see it.

I think this is right. Craig will--maybe--do one more, and Babs wants him. Rather than throw out a date that Craig can't fit into his schedule, she's waiting to see if she can entice him back.

Maybe they will hire McGuigan to do the next one.

Who the hell cares about Craig and his schedule? If Bond 25 is coming in 2018, that means filming starts in less than a year. At this point I don't care if it's going to be 2019 or later, but I refuse to hype myself for the next 11 months that a new outing is coming next year only for EON to say 'no, it will be 2019' at the last moment. Just friggin tell us if a 2018 release is possible, so we can get an idea if we can start hoping for a Bond film next year, or that it's 2019 at the earliest.

Haha, so Trump has destroyed the Bond franchise? On orders from Putin, no doubt.

Just because you politically disagree with a leader of some country doesn't make it right to have a major corporation film to put in a villain "inspired by a real-life figure" just to fulfill your own agenda. That "political figure" must be globally demonized by every side of political views to be used as a villain in a film. A film is supposed to entertain a variety of an audience, not only the left solely, or the right.

Indeed. They coined the term, "The personal is political." and they meant it. There is to be no refuge from their destructive views and policies. Not even in a Bond film.

I don't have a problem with Bond and Britain being on the side of so called righteousness. Every proud nation has a self-aggrandized sense of righteousness in my view, and that this self importance should infect a Bond film is understandable (and even encouraged perhaps), given the history of the Island and the fact that James Bond is an iconic character.

However, I'd prefer if they stay apolitical, in the sense that they don't point fingers at particular nations as being good or bad. Actors within those particular nations could be bad (like Orlov in OP for instance), but painting a whole nation & its leaders with a broad brush is a bad idea imho.

For all its faults, DAD did a reasonable job of it with North Korea.
