@bondjames, my dream actress for the Moneypenny role has always been Keeley Hawes. Thoughts?

Totally agree @ClarkDevlin. She gives off that smart, slightly bookwormish vibe while still being a hottie, in a simple way. Not an action girl at all.

I still get the feeling that Craig might be back if the next film's script is good enough and yes I appreciate that is a very big IF.

Mark Strong's comments aren't anything revelatory but just tie in what Craig and Mendes said on completion of SP, giving everything they could and being spent forces. If there are enough things of interest to entice Craig back for one more it'll happen.

In some respects SP could have been the perfect closure for Craig but given the mixed critical reaction perhaps he could be convinced to come back and do a more compelling closure to his tenure.
  • Obviously we are all just speculating. My gut tells me he's done though. Would like to be proven wrong. Would like a proper YOLT adaptation.

I remember reading about Strong meeting up with Craig in Morocco when EON and Craig were scouting locations and doing some limited shooting. Strong was apparently nearby shooting in Africa. The articles noted they hadn't met up in years. The still current close friends references in the new articles seem bogus. It will be interesting to see if Strong is leaned on to walk this back.

Well they were spotted together at Global Citizen Festival last year. Obviously it doesn't mean they're BFFs, but clearly they still hang out together.

I don't know why everyone is still quick to call Dan out, and for what? More articles slinging unofficial reports? Come on now, we're better than that, aren't we folks?

The only word to trust is Dan's, and until we get that there's no sense in getting in a tizzy wondering about his choice.

This time could be much better spent repeatedly moaning about the lack luster SP disc release, a hobby I've apparently taken to recently.

Spectre JUST came out. It's really way to early to even tell. Let's all relax and not jump to conclusions.

A great script would solidify Craig's involvement; along with that get the Casino Royale band together again and let's see if Campbell can give Bond a sendoff the way he ushers him in. Also bring Arnold back; he's had a break and would come back refreshed and ready continue what he started with Cr and QoS

Indeed. Not to mention, I've a huge crush on her and her posh British accent she delivers in a rather feminine tone. :D

What do you have against Naomie? I think she's great.

I can't see them keeping Naomie on after Craig leaves. She'd almost certainly be older than the new Bond actor.

  • I guess if Idris gets the nod like the whole world wants then noir could be applicable and the rouge could refer to maybe lipstick or blood. I can imagine a teaser poster coming on.

The "whole world" definitively does NOT want Elba anywhere near Bond; the media, an infinitesimal if highly influential fraction of the populace, does. Huge difference.

Indeed, in particular Britain doesn't seem to want Elba, he has had mediocre results in fan polls and surveys.

Ha! What does that have to do with anything? Maxwell was older than Connery and Lazenby and had 8 months on Moore. Besides, unless the new Bond actor looks like 6th form student chances are Harris will look younger or about the same age as whoever gets cast. I don't see Fiennes, Harris or Wishaw leaving even if Craig does tbh.

I believe in all of Europe and pretty much the rest of the world Elba is not a favourite. The US has a large black population, so its understandable he has more fans there, as they are rooting for him.

Favourite's don't even really matter....within reason of course. People will still go and see the Bond film and quite frankly I don't know what you're basing your "beliefs" on. The people who have the biggest issue with Elba are the Bond fan community and they're/we're not a majority. Given the nature of my job I travel and do business a lot within Europe and many people I've spoken with socially and even in relaxed business settings have either expressed indifference or support of not necessarily Elba himself as Bond but a black Bond. Will a black Bond happen? Who knows. Personally as I've always maintained Bond should remain white but if a coloured Bond is cast, it's not the end of the world and if the movie's great then wonderful. A great Bond film is priority rather than skin colour when looking at the bigger picture.

I wonder if he would be strongly enticed to do one more such as Sean in DAF (with a huge monetary cost) or like Roger in OP, when they were screen testing others such as Brolin before OP, only to have Roger come back in the 11th hour? Personally, I wouldn't read into anything strongly just yet. SP has just finished its theatrical run and even with a 2018 release, we still have 18-20 more months before they start finalizing cast, plot, and filming timeframes. IMO, its more than enough time for Daniel to decide on one more, once the dust settles with SP.

Idris Elba is too old to play Bond now. He's in his mid-forties and you do not recast without thinking 3-4 movies in advance. I am a fan of his work but seriously, he will not be Craig's successor.

This is true, but it feels like the media et al are trying to push the idea of a black Bond, not because they feel it's the right thing to do, but just to stir up controversy for the sake of it.
As you say a great Bond film is priority, and so is a great Bond. Eon won't cast a black Bond just because they feel they should, they will cast the right actor for the job. And that is how it should be.

I agree. It's nothing to be alarmed about anyway. It will never happen, and that's exactly why it's being touted. It's more of a strawman argument, as the most iconic franchise character of them all (yes, more than Batman, in my biased opinion). Nobody really expects it at all, including the advocates.

and if I had my way Craig would do the 2 more film Mr Hinx says he will do like I said Craig's tenure could give us the full range of Fleming's novels

Casino Royale/Quantum of solace (basically cover Fleming's bond from Casino Royale - Diamonds are forever)
Skyfall (give us bits of Fleming's Bond from From Russia with love - Goldfiner)
Spectre (gives us the first half of the spectre trilogy)
Bond 25 (2018) should gives us elements of OHMSS and You Only live twice
Bond 26 (2021) should then give us elements of The man with the gold gun (along with For Your eyes only compendium and The living daylights/octopussy's compendium)

As for Craig "looking older" again with the rise of films like Taken Run all night Non Stop and that Sean Penn film that came out 2 years ago whose name that I can't remember, an older bond wouldn't be a bad thing and craig still looks good enough that he could get girls half his age (heck my wife has a crush on Paul McCartney and he is old enough to be her great grand father at this rate lol)

with bond Number 7 who I hope to be Hiddleston Honestly with the way Russia is I kind of would like to see a rogue Russian General (General G perhaps or maybe Colonel Von Hammerstein) Create their own new 21st century of Smersh for a Smersh trilogy (though I would like him to do 4-5 films)

    Death to Spies (2023)
    Smersh (2025)
    Midnight among the worms (2027)

and then two stand alone films... but that is getting WAY to far into the future..

right now Craig I believe will back for bond 25 and until I see something official it is what I will believe.

    1. I'm surprised Eon is already this far in the planning stage. This suggests to me that they already had a story arc in mind, to some degree.
    2. I am also thinking that with storylines in place, Blofeld is back. And if Blofeld is back, so is Waltz, and (in turn) so is DC.
    3. Anyone else think that the "Craig is done / Craig is not done" discussion is all part of a larger marketing scheme to keep everyone hyper-focused on Bond 25? It seems as though Eon and DC are playing the media like a piano concerto.

If Mendes doesn't return, I have no problem seeing Alex Garland direct and/or write. He is more into Sci-Fi, but so what? I loved Ex Machina and thought the film's setting had a Bond-lairish (is that a word?) feel to it.

I'm so over EoN's hype. They need to put out a cracking movie and then I can start creaming pants again.

That's been reported before I think. I don't see it as much of a factor, as long as DC can still deliver the goods where it counts, even with injuries. Bond pays well.

The point about that article is that Craig WANTS TO DO MORE. Who gives a damn what his wife thinks? He isn't the type of bloke that will wilt under her pressure. He'll do whatever the hell he wants.
