    Yep

We probably would been at Bond 28 production thread by now if he was still alive.

Bit unfair - QoS was originally going to come out in May 2008. Skyfall would have come out in 2011 if it wasn't for MGM and Spectre was originally going to come out in 2014. Cubby had his own problems in getting a Bond film produced between 1989 and 1995.

There could of been a film in 2004 and 2010

There wasn't, so what? There are other things in life besides James Bond films. How did you cope in 2004 and 2010 then when there weren't Bond films? There was Euro 2004 and World Cup 2010. Darn it, 2017 has no major football tournament or Bond film, what on earth will we do?!!!

Because I'm a Bond super fan and I want more Bond. 2004 it was rough cause I really wanted a 5th Brosnan film. 2010 wasn't so bad actually cause I had a lot going on that year.

You mean you're one of them ... an obsessive?

Not as much as I used to be. Every year since like 2004 I would always watch a Bond marathon every year but as years went on it felt more of a chore rather than a pleasure. So I don't do those anymore

That's a shame. I never hope I see the day that a Bond marathon is a chore.

I was also very obsessed with Bond during the Brosnan years and even at the first half of the Craig years. It could be my age that I'm getting old I started losing that flair of excitement I had for Bond thoroughly. Something changed along the lines I don't feel the love for it as much as I did as a kid and in my teens.

I still have that obsession. It's palpable. I just feel it more for the older films than I do anything recent (meaning in the last 20 or so years). I like the older films more as I age and have been watching them more often. It's not nostalgia so much as it is respect for how good they were for their time.

Agreed. For me it's the last 28 years though that are less interesting. I'd always prefer to watch something 1989 or earlier than anything after.

The Craig era has been an improvement but that's all. Not the golden age it's made out to be.

Just for the record, when awards were being discussed here for correct predictions, about 1000 pages ago, I predicted the following.
    1. Craig returns
    2 Mendes returns
    3. B25 picks up where SP left off with continuation riffing on Fleming's Castle of Death

#1 is iron-cast lock. Not a whiff of doubt.
2&3 remain very much in play.

I'll keep the full parlay. Even double down.
    Looking forward to the awards!

    I seem to recall this.

I'm calling for Mendes if it's Craig (don't think we'll see Craig if Mendes is not back but one never knows). Continuation story only with Mendes (nobody else will want to bother).

My sentiments exactly. In the last 20 odd years, the stand out star player Bond films for me have been GE and CR. That's says a lot.

I'd say both CR and to a lesser extent Skyfall are the best-made Bond films from a technical point-of-view since the 60s.

I can understand SF @BAIN123, but what makes you say that CR is a technical tour de force? I assume you are referring to the technical aspects because the rest is more based on taste?

The shots of The Bahamas, the freerun sequence, individual shots like inside the restaurant when Bond and Vesper are having dinner, the use of colour and lighting throughout the film. All to me are superb.

Ok, I can see that. I think QoS is better from a colour palette point of view personally (what you can actually make out anyway). The Tosca sequence in particular is quite impressive.

I think TND is also excellent in this respect. That is one of the films of the past 20 years where I can definitely see the money up on the screen. I'm just not much of a fan of the finished product despite this. DAD has some wonderful sequences in it as well (the fencing fight, the Cuban sequence even if it wasn't really Cuba and of course the Aston chase) but it's also let down by the infamous CGI rubbish in places.

+1. Legendary. I can't wait to see it again on 7.7.2017 (40th anniversary of its UK release of 7.7.1977). It's going to be a blast.

That will make it the 40th Anniversary of me being a Bond fan then so as that is my first Bond film and on the big screen as well.

Would be nice if they do some Cinema presentations of that here in the UK and maybe in other countries, would make a nice way to celebrate my own Anniversary as well as SWLM.

Must agree SWLM is top 5 for me, this is my Goldfinger, much prefer it and this for me is the pinnacle of the big scheme, big battle Bonds.

Pity there was potential for SPECTRE to have something ala YOLT, OHMSS, SWLM style big battle ending, would have really paid tribute properly to the return of Blofeld instead of all the cheap nods they used instead.

Can't say I ever bought the Nolan rumour, still think the other director hinted at previously is more likely.

Though a Nolan Bond film certainly wouldn't be boycott, just seen the new Dunkirk trailer, after 2 underwhelming films that fell short of his usual brilliance Nolan is back with a bang, epic doesn't cut it, he'll own the summer with that film If there is any justice.

Agreed @Shardlake. Dunkirk is filmed in IMAX as well from what I read somewhere so it will be magnificent on the big screen.

If there are big screen presentations of TSWLM in the UK this year I may just come over for a showing - that's how much of a fan I am.

I am very excited for the new Baywatch film.
Should be the movie of the year. I am serious, in an entertainment event sense.
    I'm counting the days!
Eon might want to consider the director ( if Mendes bails for some reason) scriptwriter, and a couple of the lead girls for B25.
Hell, looking forward, Zac Efron could play Bond and The Rock could play a henchman!

@pachazo, my apologies, then. We don't really converse on here, so I didn't know how to take your reactions (nuance is lost in text anyway). I'm sure that at times I could hold back a little, but I've seen the same cycle pop up endlessly over these nearly 800 pages (!) and so it's only inevitable that I try to point out how things could be better. It's just the same people, often myself, @jake24 or @RC7 pointing out pitfalls to avoid, and nothing really changing. Maybe I'm too dedicated to call it a lost cause?

with all due respect, and I think you're quite an astute and articulate poster, but this is sanctimonious BS.

surely the lifeblood of a fan forum is a diverse array of hopes and opinions. even on the hallowed "production diary" thread.

That's your right. I just have a mental disconnect when it comes to believing book bets as definitive Bond casting rumors and all the rest. It's much more gratifying to get excited about the stuff that has actual truth to it, beyond the tabloid rags' attempts at meeting their bottom lines.

It's why I said I was happy at the very least that people were getting excited about the Syncopy news rather than the obviously false rumors that've peddled in steadily over time. The former is at least something that could be taken to having some reality or truth to it. I still hold that it's important to wait out the official announcements on all things. The news I want to hear is Dan coming back for one more, but even when/if it's reported I will wait until EON give us the final word to truly jump up and down. That's the only sticking point I have on this whole issue: not necessarily peoples' opinions, but what they choose to consume, believe and regurgitate as truth, ultimately getting their hopes up for something that isn't sure-fire.

That's why I know for a fact that a lot of people will be angry/upset if Nolan isn't announced as Bond 25's director, off the back of this IMDb "story." If the true director announced is anything less than him, they're immediately cooked in comparison to Nolan and projected to fail, despite the possibly that Nolan may have never been an actual prospect in the first place. I just see people falling into what could be easily laid traps, that's all.

Happened to catch this discussion of a casting rumour on "Meet The Movie Press".

Not really sure what to make of it. Does anyone subscribe to the Ankler?

The discussion starts around the 7 minute mark, prior to that it's WGA strike talk which segways into more general Bond talk, and then the Syncopy IMDB listing.

"Given the Nolan stuff that was in the news, there's speculation about Tom Hardy. And I was actually reading the Ankler newsletter [...] which links to IndieWire story where Anne Thompson is talking about whether Tom Hardy would do it, and he [Richard Rushfield] says that he hears that the rumour about Tom Hardy playing James Bond is actually more than a rumour. That's it's a done deal. And I wouldn't put it past CAA to have struck that deal. [...] I do think that there could be some sort of side deal, or whisper deal for Tom Hardy where Daniel Craig is our Bond as long as he wants to be, but once he is not you're the guy."

    This is total bs.

This same guy predicted that Dev Patel would be the new Spider-Man. He also stated with a high amount of confidence that Marvel were trying to get a non-white actor for the role. Tom Holland looks v white to me.

Same guy also said Brosnan was in talks for Deadpool 2. That also didn't happen.

What the hell is the Ankler anyway? I'm sorry, but this isn't a thing.

But they're right, Hardy is the only option.
