Why do people keep saying that? He's only James Bond if he does another Bond film. If he doesn't, then he's just an actor between jobs. We don't know yet.

You mean he's not actually James Bond, that he realliy is just a man called Daniel Craig?

I was talking with a friend recently about the actual stage of B25 production and the uncertain future of the franchise, at least for now. And then came up with this: What if Barbara isn't needed or involved with with B25, because of her other projects, and Michael is producing the flick with Chris Nolan's Syncopy, and perhaps Craig again as a co-producer? What if...

Very, very, very unlikely. Barbara Broccoli is a force to be reckoned with! She'll definitely be fully involved - she vetoed everyone to cast Craig instead of Cavill. MGW often jokes about how intimidating she can be - she very much takes after her parents - she'll be fully in charge of Bond for some time. Gregg Wilson will join her though and MGW with his age and health will undoubtedly take more of a back seat.

As long as he still gets his cameo in each film still,he will be happy.

I think the convention has always been that until EON announces otherwise the current actor is assumed to be the current 'official' Bond. It's pretty simple.

For this reason Dalton was the 'official Bond actor' from 86 to 94 or whatever the dates were, even though he never made another film after 89. In 1991 when they were openly planning the next Dalton release he hadn't ceased being Bond even though he never set foot on another Bond set.

Your obsession with the idea that the actors cease to be the official actor between movies is odd to say the least.

Dalton indeed was the official Bond until 1994. The computer game, James Bond 007: The Duel had his likeness for the Bond character. They wouldn't allow that unless the actor is in to the contract, now, would they? Just like Brosnan was Bond up until 2004.

Up till a few years ago I had a 1993 copy of Empire where it discussed the next Bond film to be written by Michael France, and starring Timothy Dalton. Wish I still had it.
Either way, the current actor is Bond till EON or they say otherwise. But EON generally get to announce it.

There was a rumour once he was part of Silva's crew during that shootout on his island. Later said to be a deleted scene. Haven't heard of him doing anything in Spectre, though.

    That's possible yep.
I've heard nothing about him being in SP either.
    Shame.

MGW was in both SF and SP I believe. In SF it's in the same scene with M staring at the coffins and he's standing at the door. In SP he appears to be talking to C, as M and MP walk towards him. It happens very fast.

In the katter scene you can also see Gregg standing beside his father.

Is this only EON's decision though? Doesn't MGM have a say in this? A future distributor? At least in terms of filming dates and release dates and what not. After all, they put up most of the money.
Primarily, it is MGM who decides who its distributor is. Although they do ensure that EON is happy with whomever they choose.

Michael Wilson said in the November 2015 interview it was MGM's choice but he expected that MGM would seek input. He also said Eon does the heavy lifting on marketing regardless of distributor.

Nothing can really get turning like director or casting until the distribution is handled hopefully MGM and eon decide who distribute by at least the end of the year. If it was handled by the end of the summer that would be great but I'm not getting my hopes up

Yes, a Bond actor is incumbent until he is dethroned by another actor's announcement, but never until then. The fact that this had to be argued is worrying indeed.

And even after your time is done, you remain James Bond forever. Sean, George, Roger, Tim and Pierce are all James Bond and always will be, irrespective of the fact that Dan is the current one. Like former presidents, the title always sticks. The Sensational Six stand as one.

Well, Craig can surpass Sir Rog's tenure length if he does one more. I don't think that will be an incentive for him, but it's something to note.

If he doesn't come back, it still makes sense to wait, because I'm sure that he benefits from still being the official Bond actor when negotiating other acting gigs and the entire outfit benefits from not having the rumour mill in overdrive (if there was no incumbent the press speculation would be deafening in comparison to now).

We'll know soon enough. Probably by the end of this year.

EDIT: McGuigan may have an occupied schedule:

and another rumor gets taken out back and shot.... sigh I get the feeling that like gap between Quantum of Solace and Skyfall we have another 4 year gap and what is worse is no video games to ease the pain at least there is the Amazing comic book series (though Ubisoft developing a series of games would be fantastic)

Not wishing to make light of this very serious news item but this could be the sort of Bond plot material for Bond 25:

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/nhs-cyber-attack-hospitals-hit-10409301
The virus is believed to be ransomware, which installs itself covertly on devices, and then holds information hostage until a ransom is paid.

The so-called 'ransomware' computer attack is demanding $300 in electronic currency to free files from encryption.

Some plot involving cyber attack. I'd imagine if Ian Fleming were alive in 2017 he'd have SPECTRE using cyber attacks. A SPECTRE cyber attack against the European Union!

Even though I'm sure your reasoning behind this is fuelled by your hopes of Craig vacating the role in favour of Turner, I think you kind of have a point.

Make no mistake, Craig is the current Bond...until he's not. The facts that we are aware of doesn't guarantee Craig will be back, however, the facts also do not confirm that he won't be back either. Look at the Brosnan situation, after DAD he himself and in the company of the producers no less confirmed he'd be back for a 5th outing and look what happened there.

Exactly. Same thing happened to Dalton. They fully expected him back, but other affairs got in the way. I've tried to warn people that the same can happen again.

It's a bit different this time, because the rumours of Craig's departure started after his ill advised wrist slash comments from 2015. Brosnan on the other hand was fully expected to return until the sudden announcement that the negotiations had stalled.

Having said that, I agree that we have no clue what's going on at present. Just a rumour mill in full swing with conflicting back and forth.

Would be ironic if Turner got sacked the same way Brosnan did in '87, wouldn't it?
