Sooo... Absent for two days, and this "news" of a shared universe involving 007 sparks out... They will literally do anything to churn out a story to attract views and subscribers, won't they?

And for the thousandth time to all those comparisons with Bond and Marvel/DC done to death... Marvel and DC have a chessboard where those characters like Iron Man, Batman, Superman and whatnot are pieces upon it. James Bond isn't a piece on the chessboard, but he is the chessboard, unless Eon allows him to join The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen which is galaxies far away. Those two IPs couldn't be more different.

So, no, a "James Bond Universe" thriller starring Moneypenny, and the direful Q and Tanner are not happening. What's there to tell a story about Moneypenny? That she's at her desk, cleaning her pistol all day and putting it back in the drawer, being bored? Or that she interferes in some business that only concerns domestic authorities to stop some terrorist? Hell, even that Moneypenny spinoff comic book is a one-shot. Not even a miniseries. So, what are the odds of her getting a movie?

And no, Felix Leiter isn't as popular in the films nor has left a mark on the franchise to get his movie. What is he going to do? Flush down a few bureaucrats down the drain? Apart from what Jack Lord's interpretation seemed to be, Felix isn't an action man.

As for Q and Tanner, that'd be a good laugh. Just another day in the tech laboratory. Just another day under M's orders and solving his life problems within the service. Right!

This isn't happening, as much as casual nobodies believe it, the story will sell. Only they'd be ignorant enough to buy this false make believe topic as a "fact that didn't materialize" when it wasn't even in the planning when the story in the future doesn't check out.

What next? Vladimir Putin to act as Daniel Craig's double?

I would not be averse to Nolan having a crack at the whip. A shame that Mendes already 'did a Nolan' with SF. Nolan would have done it better I think.
Nolan would have been significantly better. Don't underestimate him. He's been on a personal tangent lately fueling his ego with pet projects.

While I doubt he'll get Bond, I'm reasonably certain that his known respect for the franchise would be sufficient motivation for him to dig deep and deliver something for the ages if given a chance.
Known respect for the franchise sounds very similar to all the proclamations what a huge Bond fan Mendes was.
Yes, but Nolan gave us an impressive original reimagining of the Batman universe which I personally consider definitive. That can't be said of any Bond interpretation in the last 20+ years. So I have a little more confidence in his abilities than I do in Mendes.
TDKR is a weak film, but that doesn´t even really matter when one considers that literally all of Nolan´s films have very bleak visuals, which might fit Batman, but has nothing to do with James Bond. The Bond novels as well as the films were always (well, until SF at least) like a holiday trip while watching a great detective having thrilling adventures. Nolan would add a lot to that, but nothing that´s needed or even would make sense.

I picture the Tanner movie to simply be titled "Bill".

    "Bill Kills"...?

It won't happen. It's just cliche tabloid assumptions.

This. But I will say a Naomie Harris Moneypenny movie is hands down the most likely spinoff they might try. (And not that I would want that to happen, but if it did, I would probably be the only person here genuinely excited to see it—assuming it didn't interfere with the production of regular Bond films.)
You're probably right. I have no interest in seeing Harris associated with the Bond films again period, let alone in her own starring vehicle. I'll be ecstatic when she's eventually recast.

Now you've really peaked my interest. This is the one I'm waiting for.

Well, I would certainly insist on Craig being cast as lead if they ever make a bio film of Comrade Putin.

I wouldn't call TDKR weak. It's actually my 2nd favourite of the trilogy behind BB. It could certainly have been much better (particularly Talia's character), but it had a lot to live up to, and still wraps up the trilogy quite coherently.

I get your point about the bleak visuals though. If Nolan gets Bond (I doubt he will), I would hope that he would ensure a future film has that vibrant travelogue flavour that has characterized the best Bond films, and not the sort of urinated colour palette which accompanied the latest effort (ironically lensed by his new go-to cinematographer). In fact, I certainly hope they dispense with the filtering for B25. Awful.

Speaking of filtering. I was watching that new Training Day television series. If you thought Spectre had it bad, Training Day has it worse. The show is so yellow it's like someone took the sliderbar up to 100%. :))

Sadly, too many films suffer from that. It's as if the barcode for showcasing grit.

Skyfall also had strong yellow display that wasn't natural in colour. The Macao building, the casino scene, the Skyfall Lodge during the explosion and afterwards...

I've always wondered if Hoyte was trying to emulate that (this was a continuation story after all) and failed miserably on account of not having Deakins' skills and expertise.

Bottom line though: SF achieved that result through strategic lighting (the yellow comes off the ambient lighting in the scenes. I even think there are lamps placed in the bottom of the komodo cave, which I noticed for the first time in a recent viewing). The lights disperse the yellow in pinpoint ways, creating shadow as well as dark and light spots. Plus Deakins used a digital camera. A lot of work went into creating that effect, and it wasn't just via applying an overall filter.

Awesome poster. This is the best news we've had for ages. Tanner is a man of hidden depths I reckon. Bet he's into tai chi.
  • Nicely done, but his look there is a little too emotive for a Tanner movie.

True. They need to tone it down a bit. Not too much excitement.

I want the whole back story of Bond and young Oberhauser. Preferably played out over 22 episodes.

Screw another Bond movie. We need TV spin offs and an expanded universe.
