Don't know if it's been covered yet or not, but Mendes' play has been extended to Jan 2018. So that rules out Mendes returning in 2018 atleast. I know he already said he wouldn't be returning, but that's what he said the first time, so...

To be quite honest I'm not sure it's that possible we will see a Bond film in 2018 anyway.

2018 is off the table, we would have heard heavy location & direction rumors by now, we would likely know whos writing for sure by now too.

I agree, but I know there are still many fans who hold onto the idea of a Bond movie coming out in 2018 with the same faith Linus had in The Great Pumpkin. I had an email exchange with one a couple of weeks ago.

It would kind of be a waste otherwise. I can imagine a 4 year gap for a final Craig in 2019, then a 4 year gap just for Eon to take another much needed break, and recast. By the time the 7th Bond actor gets his debut in cinemas it will have been a full eight years since SP.
Not to mention by then we'll most likely get yet another Bond film that seems to need to prove 007 is still relevant. That got old after GE.

To some minds every film ha something to prove these days. The situation is so different.

EON can be very cunning sometimes. Like a wily fox.

So you're saying Bond 25 will be a direct sequel to DAD? Of course! Graves actually survived the events of the film, and B25 will reveal that he is secretly Bond's third step-nephew twice-removed.

The sad thing is it could be so easy, let Bond carry out a decent mission in a cracking film, and there would be no doubt anywhere that Bond is still relevant.

I don't remember Bond having to prove himself to the others to remain relevant anywhere in GoldenEye, however.

And why exactly would they do that? The leaks were damaging because of all the internals we got to know (plus quite a few hints on the most terrible of all twists in the franchise).
They never made any secrets about doing a new movie in itself. Just as I said, why should they? After all this is free publicity, getting the public aware that a new Bond is coming.

There was no Ethan Hunt in the Mission Impossible series
No Jason Bourne in the Bourne series
    No Kingsman series

Bond doesn't have to prove he's still relevant. But he can't rely on the 'Bond' name alone forever. The series needs a new shake up. Be it new actor or new direction for the character. The series is moving along at a snails pace for the Craig era. Either new younger blood to get it fired up again, or something else. Either way, Bond needs to show everyone he's still #1.

Yes, a snails pace is right. Really the only thing they're brought to the table since since Casino in 2006 is the idea of familial ties between character, and exploring Bond's past. We've haven't really turned a corner and shaken things up in over a decade, and the cracks really started to show in SP. I'm hoping there is no Bond film in 2018 now, as that would imply that they haven't really gone back to the drawing board and found solutions, put just decided to ride the Craig gravy train for as far as it will take them. That's how we end up with another AVTAK or DAD, imo.

Based on current info, the production of Purity has to start and end before Daniel Craig will commit to Bond 25. Given this state of affairs, which do you think is more likely to happen before Dec 31st 2017:

    A) Donald ' sad twitter man' Trump will be impeached

    B) Theresa May will be removed/another UK Election

    C) Purity will be filmed

    D) That pair of socks you thought were lost are found down the sofa

That's funny, a post about Bond 25 and yet you were still able to let us know your opinion about Trump.

The bean-counting evil queen of numbers could be interpreted as a hint to Bond´s relevance. Although budget restraints within the 00 section were addressed here and there before I believe.
I think as a promotional gag for GE Bond´s relevance after the cold war was mentioned. Many people fell for that, without it being in the movie, and then it was further developed, with the result of Bond being a miserable cynic recently.

I recall the relevancy theme peppered throughout GE, whether it be from Zukovsky, Tanner, M, Trevalyn, Natalya and even Bond ("The lost art"). It was subtle (unlike the sledgehammer approach of the Craig era), but definitely a theme..

GE's 'is Bond still revelant' schtick 'subtle'?

In the same way the double entendre humour in the DAD mojito scene is 'subtle'.

Well it was certainly more subtle than Mendes's "the old ways are best" gag in SF and shutting down of the OO "Programme" in SP.

Anyway, the whole relevance schtick including an aged Bond was ripped off McClory´s NSNA, together with the laser watch.

So one could say that Eon live the idea of the traitor from within, making its numerous appearances in the films seem to be based on a subconscious psychological background.

It was enough with GoldenEye, and tolerable in Die Another Day. But, after that, especially throughout the Craig era, the idea of the traitors, moles and double agents working for the "corporate mafia" to overrule relevance over governments and countries has been worn out and overtly overstayed its welcome.
