My thoughts exactly. He is a middle of the road attempt at a cross between Connery and Moore?
On French Radio Europe 1, a fun & quiz show asked "Who's in it only for the money ?", and the answer, you guess it, is Daniel Craig. Then they explained that all his negative comments were caused by the fact he had just been fired from the franchise and won't do the next one !
With Sam Smith's 3 weeks only in the Top #100 here, and a song that I simply never heard on the radio yet, Craig's "suicide" interview is still the only promo we have about Spectre (released in 1 month here). I saw the DB10 a few meters from me, but the Spectre car parade in Paris did not made much impact either.
It has been announced that Craig will do only 2 TV shows here, one major and one minor.
I wait for the Seydoux and Belluci promotions, I hope for her they won't have to answer questions about this "suicide" comment.
I don't know about anyone else but I actually think I may enjoy the lead up MORE than the actual finished films themselves ha ha...
Would Craig still be into it without Mendes?
As Craig worked with him on Layer Cake, with Matthew Vaughan he might
;;)
Have you seen Spectre? if not how can you comment on Mendes when the world press who have seen it says "Mendes shown he can do exhilarating action, grandioso film making outside of drama, he's nailed it"
I understand some are annoyed over Mendes in Skyfall but I would reserve judgement until you see Spectre whether you want him back or not.
I said I did not want Martin Campbell back after Goldeneye, because I did not enjoy it. How wrong was I. If he hadn't returned I would not have Casino Royale my favourite film.
You know if Mendes does not wish to return I think if Campbell bearing in mind his age was up for it Craig and Campbell telling the final chapter of Dan's tenure would be very fitting.
No but I think Mendes has run his course. I enjoy and am a fan if Mendes. I just think Mendes threw in everything he had into SP and anything else from Mendes would take Bond off course.
Maybe I should have said "but after Spectre enough of Mendes." Sorry
No Mendes means no Craig, just FYI.
How does it mean no Craig if Mendes doesn't return? Is this just your desire of Mendes returning?
Because they are joined at the hip.
Barring some completely new creative vision/script by a top notch director which DC can sink his acting teeth into, I really don't see him wanting to come back and recreate the wheel with just any another director (especially given how complex these Bond productions can be).
He's just not that kind of actor.
I know Craig will work with other directors outside of Bond ..even said he wanted to in the infamous suicide interview.
If Mendes does leave, EON will want someone in that same acclaimed league. Mendes' presence in the series has raised the bar for directors. Denis Villeneuve recently said he'd direct one if offered, and he brings the right credibility as well as the non-American profile.
Non-American profile? We should ban British audiences from all American movies with that attitude.
:P
That's EON's mandate. If you notice, they have never hired an American director. I believe that was Cubby's rule, and they've kept it.
Directors Craig has worked with that honestly I would really be excited if they came to direct Bond 25
Jim Sheridan (worked with Daniel Craig on Dream House) Jim is Irish so the no American rule can still apply. He Also has a wide range of films he has directed.
Simon West (worked with Daniel Craig on Lara Croft Tomb Raider) two words CON AIR. Ok I get it West is an "action director" and not in league with Nolan and Mendes but does he need to be? as long as the writing is fantastic West I think could deliver a top notch bond film.
Steven Spielberg (worked with Daniel Craig on Munich) do I need to make a case for this guy Honestly? ok I know what your going to say "Indiianna Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull" but even the best directors fail with the property they are known best for (The Dark Knight Rises for example) The last two espionage esque films while based on real event both have a style gritty look to them that would work perfectly with Craig's Swann Song (though I am still holding out hope he will be in 2 more films not one) Again I would focus on Munich, Bridge of Spies, Jaws, and Raiders of the lost ark. I feel Spielberg could deliver a fun yet dark and gritty Bond film.
Spielberg was a big fan of SF by the way.
