It does seem a little strange doesn't it that the release date has been announced but little else. Should we take this announcement with a pinch of salt?

I don't mean that this isn't EON's stated intention but that there still seem to be plenty of hurdles before this really becomes locked down. Just thinking back to the B17 announcement that never happened.

    Mate, it's from Eon themselves.

Please see my additional comments above. Not saying this isn't from EON just that there have been disappointments previously.

Does the release date normally come before the announcement of everything else?

As I said earlier, it's exactly what they did with SP. They're marking the release date so other studios get out of the way of that week. It's a full 2 years away. They can do so many things (including hiring and firing directors and actors) for a full year yet.

Yes it does normally, its basically a sign of intent against other films being released around that time.

There is a live action Disney movie coming out on the same release date as Bond 25.

As I say in an earlier post, for Eon to make this statement it is very likely (more than very likely) the distribution deal is locked - you can't go announcing a firm release date before you know who will be distributing. And in most cases, the distribution company will want to know who the lead star is (Craig) and, to a slightly lesser degree, who will be directing. That's standard re: Sales and Distribution agreements/contracts.

Why is there talk of MGW and BB selling up? Have I missed something?

BMD threw a tidbit in about them potentially thinking about doing so after B25, and MI6-HQ admins on Twitter also corroborated.

They are a year behind this time due to the distribution nonsense. That's all. It cost them a year.

Just like they were a year behind last time out because of the wait for Mendes.

Excellent. At last we have a date, and presumably DC will takes his final bow as 007. His successor might take over then in 2022, but they should avoid the World Cup in Qatar, which kicks off mid-November

The concept BB and MGW selling the franchise is more than disturbing to me especially with so many insane ideas out there on how to update the character for modern audiences.
I won't give credit where credit isn't due, so I do believe another producer could easily be stupid enough to subscribe to the code name theory, female Bond concept, etc etc.
More than likely we might get a trendy current American actor as Bond under different owners. Chris Pratt, Chris Evans etc

My question is do we think this will be a direct adaption of You Only Live Twice... say what you will about Purvis and Wade but they honestly work best when they are directly adapting Fleming (for me the first 2/3rd of Die another Day Casino Royale and Some of Skyfall and Spectre are great) ....

if so and if the pattern of titles rings true (Location of the finale for the odd titles and bond emotional struggle/organization for the even titles

my guess is Daniel Craig returns as James Bond 007 in

    The Garden of Death

(with Bond 26 my guess being titled either Blofeld or Smersh)

As long as they sell to Christopher Nolan Syncopy, we're in safe hands. He would never turn Bond into a woman. ;)

Craig looks as good now as he did - let's say, four years ago. With production starting late 2018 (for example), I can't see him age too much from now to when production starts.

...And if he looks old, just add puppies!

Craig looks great. Seriously. He could easily do another two Bonds. Girls love him, men want to be him. He has a rugged handsome look which is why he's so unique in an era of baby-faced boys.

Maybe in your part of the world. In mine the younger the women get, the less they are fond of his looks. Yet they are very much into Matt Damon, who is only a couple of years younger. The boys by the way seem to have a strong preference for the Mission impossible movies however. And they are all awed by the fact that cruise is doing his daredevil stunts himself.
Mind you, I don't say they hate Craig, but they never mention him. Neither do they ever talk about SF and Sp.

If Craig is back this will be a real test of his personal popularity in the role.

Well eventually the copyright to the novels/character will run out and anyone will be able to make a Bond film.

I can assure you that I don't want to be like Craig's Bond. At least not his SP iteration. Far from it. The last time I wanted to be like him was in CR when he was playing it smooth with Vesper.

No, that will never be the case with Bond which is protected by both the Ian Fleming Estate and Eon's exclusive film and tv rights.

I believe something has 'run out' in Canada with respect to Fleming. Last year. There is some time limit on these things in certain jurisdictions.

My mistake. Will fix it. Impossible to contemplate that's it's still 2 full years away after this long I suppose.

I find it a little perplexing.

Yes, I'm not sure exactly what's what with that, but I'm very sure any attempt to financially exploit Bond without Eon or Ian Fleming Estate will end up in court.

Why perplexing? In 50+ years they've only had a 4 yr+ gap thrice. From 1989-1995, 2002-2006 and from 2008-2012. Only one with the same actor. Given this and the rumours that we aren't getting an actor change this time (after 12 years - so nearly the longest run of all), it's perfectly reasonable to find it difficult to come to terms with.

There was a bit on the Canada story a couple of years back.

    https://consequenceofsound.net/2015/11/canadian-filmmakers-to-remake-james-bond-films-after-copyright-expires/

    No news since then.

Presumably EON lawyers were straight into it

Sorry, not your comment. The announcement at this point in time. For some reason the rest of my comment was deleted. My guess is that the distribution negotiations have concluded just beyond the window of opportunity (which has been up in the air for some time) for an Autumn 18 release, but they're keen to give 'us' something to keep interest bubbling under. They'll have to go some to stop that fizzling out across the next 12 months unless they either a) have something up their sleeves or b) are happy to return to radio silence beyond their further announcements.

No worries. But don't you find this just 'normal' anyway, given SP's release date was announced 2 years prior to the eventual release as well? Seems like par for the course to me. They don't really 'owe' us anything more at this point.

Perhaps they owe Craig though, because he's going to be out there flapping in the wind for the next couple of weeks.

    Seriously, why are P&W back???

Agreed. SP's most obvious weakness was its derivativeness and lack of ingenuity. That being the case, you really want to bring back the same screenwriters, retreads who have been penning Bond scripts since Methuselah was a pup?

At any rate, I'm grateful B25 is officially on the docket.

For them to bring anything fresh at this point will be quite the challenge.

Life's full of small challenges. The likes of Babs and MGW should be up to the job.
