Considering its length it has so many great little moments packed into it.

I love that scene with Mathis on the plane especially.

    Top ten Bond for me.

Oh, I adore that scene, and even the bartender is great. Well written, and Craig acts so well, even when saying little.
Really like their previous encounter too, at Mathis villa, another strongly written scene, and like to know where Mathis buys his "cheap" wine, as the bottle seems to be quite full, even after three glasses have been poured from it!!

I like QOS but the problem with it is narration and editing.
Firstly they needed 10-15 minutes more for characters and story to build slowly.

Secondly i love the energy and action choreography but fast jump cuts, disoriented techniques ruined it and action Scenes needed more room to breathe.

That being said Casino Royale parkour chase is how action should be done and still remain best action Scene of Craig Era for me.

Oh definitely. The parkour sequence is fantastic. One of the best action sequences in the series IMO.

But I really love the Quantum PTS for sheer visceral energy.

Absolutely, but I love the scaffolding fight, and also the plane sequence. I didn't like the boat chase initially, but its grown on me!

Agreed! Love the camerawork done on the boat chase sequence. Also love the Slate fight.

The aesthetic of Bond walking through the desert in a suit is also a big win IMO. One of those things that doesn't make any sense on it's own but it occurs naturally within the film. That this is also when he realizes that Greene's after the water rather than oil (as well as everything else in the film that's happened up to this point), it's a kind of symbolism of Bond wading through his own harsh realities.

The boat sequence and Slate fight are the worst for me. Could be from any film. Nothing Bond about them.

The boat chase is very poorly done, overall - but it is bookended by one of my favourite "low key" moments in the Craig era, which is everything from Bond moving off in the boat, looking down at Camille unconscious, then transitioning to the coastline and Bond handing Camille over on the dock. A really nice marriage of images and music, and the lack of a quip from Bond makes the scene unique, I feel.
Very true, that is an amazingly well-shot sequence. The use of sound and music in this film is brilliant.

it's one of my favorite moments in any Bond film,

    One of mine too.

Two amazing scenes in quick succession. And shortly after those two we get the hilarious hotel swap!

I do like the Mathis scene, but I've always loved the footage of Craig on the Sunseeker approaching the Villa. Beautiful location accompanied by a great bit of music. Craig's outfit here too, reminiscent of Steve McQueen, it's a classic. I've always hated that he's wearing cufflinks, though.

I got a cardigan just like that because of this scene!

He wears the same style one in CR when he's standing on the hotel balcony with Mathis.

I've been unconciously dressing like Bond's Craig for ages...but now i conciously do it! :))

I like his look in all his Bond films and luckily it suits my body shape!

Perfect casual style. Why oh why didn’t they keep this for NTTD? That was so particular to Craig’s iteration as Bond. So were the desert boots from Clarks and the Omega PO. The Tom Ford glasses, ... So many cool choices. Bond was a stylish one in this era. A true fashionist.

He never wore Clarks, they're the Church's Ryder III. I own a pair and they are extremely comfortable. Highly recommended. While I really like the casual styling of Bond in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace I personally think Skyfall and Spectre are superior. I'm really liking what I've seen from No Time To Die and as a fan of Craig's personal style, I think the upcoming film will be the highlight of his tenure in terms of fashion.

The tailoring of Craig's suits in SF is awful. That shiny ill fitting suit in Istanbul is an abomination. He looks miles better in CR and esp QOS.

Looks like they may have got things back on track sartorially in NTTD.

With a corduroy three button suit and a buttoned collared shirt with a tie? With moc-toe chukka boots and old boat shoes? With white henleys?

    I don't know...

Love the woolly pully, though :-D Got one myself. And the prince of wales grey suit.

Hate to say it but i am not impressed with bond's fashion sense in NTTD, aside from whales suit. Most of them looks hideous but they might look better in the film.

I think undeniably, Craig was at his coolest in QOS.

The film has a ton of style and Forster really gave it a modern-vintage feel. There are a lot of really bold directorial choices in the film. Genuinely I think aesthetically the movie has great flair.

But it's the storytelling that is weak - firstly, there is soooo much action. What made CR work was the focus on Bond as a human and the quieter more emotional scenes resonant. In QOS, they don't let Craig ruminate and that's really where he excels. Forster just makes Bond an 'action man'...........................

The second big problem is the editing. It's too fast paced and it destroys the sense of thrill in the spectacle. There is such great craft in these films behind-the-scenes but Forster disguises it with shoddy editing. they should have let Stuart Baird edit the stunts. you'd never know it was made by the same team who did the tank chase in GE or the parkour chase in CR.

Nonetheless, the visuals are impeccable. Right down tot he amazing locations, great cinematography and very pretty actors......

Another element of Quantum of Solace I find irritating having reflected for some time, is the fact that they couldn't even get the continuity right between the ending of Casino Royale and this film. If you look at Bond he is wearing a completely different suit and the car itself is a totally different colour. As exciting as the opening of this film is that always bugged me.

I don't remember seeing what car he was driving at the end of CR..? He shows up after shooting Mr White in the leg.

The silver/grey Aston was totalled before Bond was captured.

It would rival TLD as best pts imo!

This film is always easy to watch and digest. It's not a mammoth watch like the Mendes ones. It's massively undercooked in the script department and the flashy editing and the very basic title sequence along with the worst henchman ever in elvis which all should never be seen in a Bond film.
I do have alot to love in this film though, the opening car chase is so thrilling. The opera scenes from start to finish give you scope of the shadowy organization. Mathis death scene. Bond escaping feon Mi6 at the hotel, all the action is unique and quite thrilling (if just edited properly) david Arnolds bond score is in fine form. I especially love the strong bond girl in camille. She is the perfect foil for Bond in this one. I even love the shady and slimy Greene and i like that they were brave enough to try and do a villain of corporate greed who operated with a facade of environmentalism, it was just undercooked. I almost wish they had the rights to spectre and ended this film with Blofeld in the shadows ordering Greene to be terminated.

I wouldn’t go as far as calling Elvis a ‘henchman’, he’s merely one of Greene’s cronies. I actually think the hair is kind of terrific and Antole Taubman was inspired casting. He has that kind of weird, memorial and strange faces that the casting directors in the 1960’s Bond films aimed for…..he’s an odd looking chap. The haircut accentuates that.

    Quantum-of-Solace-0779.jpg

I do agree that QOS is a more digestible film than the Sam Mendes magnum opuses. But in some ways that is one of its failings. QOS feels too light and superfluous. More of a footnote or epilogue to CR than a film in its own right.

Great action – but the story is slight.

We haven’t properly seen Craig in NTTD yet. But I feel this Bond film also had his best ‘look.’ He channelled 007 with a touch of Steve McQueen cool…….
