*(a new composer)
Here's hoping.
1. Q - Craig says that it's difficult to use Q now because gadgets are everywhere in magazines and on the net. It's now hard for the Bond people to come up with ideas that the public isn't aware of.
2. Bond's one-liners - Austin Powers has made it difficult for Bond films to wink at the camera, to have a bit of fun because they have been parodied so much. Do you really think LTK was 'classic' Bond? Blimey, shows how we all view things differently. LTK was the first Bond to use excessive violence, and offer us a foul-mouthed Bond who acted without any thought for the safety of others. It seemed (to me) like the most un-Bond like of films.
:-q
I've also never really understood why people seem to believe that bond was destroyed by AP. Those films were parodying the classic Connery era (i.e. The period when Bond was at it's height). I don't think they were meant to be malicious in intent either - Mike Myers has even said that he loves Sean Connery.
Craig raises some important points of discussion and I feel has the correct view on them. With Q and the humour, the problems that arise are that they've been done and would become a joke if done again. To quote Craig, it has been "killed". With the gadgets, you or I could own them, so why have Bond using one? Let him use the normal GPS, that's "gadget" enough for me.
Sam Mendes having read all the novels is also a huge plus and something he should have done anyway. This can only help the finished film.
I'm greatly looking forward to this one. I hope we get more news soon.
Seeing Craig so excited for this film only makes me more excited!
Or maybe enough time has elapsed for them to do that. Quantum has similarities with SPECTRE.
As for the gadgets? Its true we all have high technology in our pockets. Jet packs and camera phones arent exotic anymore? I think those expecting gadgets galore might be disapointed.
I am looking forward to this and already intend taking my niece and nephew to the Odeon Leicester Square in a family tradition.
But since for the last couple of years I have expected Bond breathed his last with MGM etc.....a new Bond film is a bonus.
It sounds like genuine appreciation to me.
I think it's still possible to make a "serious-but-fun" Bond film and I'm sure Craig believes so too. Sam Mendes seems like a genuine fan (he references Bond in American Beauty for one thing) so hopefully he knows what he's doing.
Forget the UK Olympics, Bond 23 will be the big event of 2012 ;)
Somewhere in Babs' psyche is a wish not to be associated with that kind of adventure as people will go "tee hee Dr Evil!"
He may not knowingly have damaged the franchise but they are reluctant to go down that route nowadays.
And as for the others, yes - and Bond used to parody himself. But somehow the Austin Powers thing struck home.
Maybe we will indeed get something special if Dan's more excited about making this one than he was in anticipation of making CR - and the fact that excitement, in both cases, comes down to the script surely bodes well...
With this not being an adaptation of a novel, yet Craig being more excited about doing this than any of the others Bond 23 could stand a chance of being one of the best original scripts we've had to date though it all depends on how well this is transferred to the screen. We have maybe the best crew (and possibility cast) working on a Bond film since the 60's so I've got great hope. I really just want EON to deliver - now more than ever.
Simple things like less action really need to count now, I've had enough from the last 15 years to last me twice as long...
All right anyone got a Delorean or a police box?
As for the one liners I can take them or leave them. I thought "that last hand nearly killed me" in CR was good and delivered really well, as were many of the lines in TB ("Wait until you get to my teeth"). But a lot of the one-liners in the Brosnan years (and, from what I hear, the Moore years) were ones that caused you to groan instead of laugh. Those I can do without.
If nothing else I'm assuming this film will have more moments of fun and the character of Bond will now be more established as the Bond most people expect to see.
