I'm working class, but I voted Conservative. I felt that they did a lot more good in the five years they were in power than the 13 years Labour were in power and I think Labour caused a lot of the problems the Conservatives were blamed for.

Farage, Miliband and Clegg all looking for new jobs. Top Gear looking to re-launch.

But do they know enough about cars?

On the other hand, forget I asked.

Not saying you can't be working class and vote conservative, I wasn't on about this election, it was aimed at his comment about Thatcher being great. She was very anti working class.

Agreed but that was with a Lib Dem coalition restricting them. Now it's a Tory majority and that's a different kettle of fish.

Thank goodness Labour did not get in with the SNP! I am working class and voted for the Tories as they offered the most stability for me and my family! I am guessing that is what most people clearly did too!
Still really surprised they got a clear majority though!

On several social media platforms and comment sections, (since the result was called) I have seen a lot of anti-Conservative posts, and hardly anything positive - which I find strange.

If they were popular enough to get such a majority, why all the social media hate?

People against something or hostile to something or someone are always more vocal, especially when they loss. It is true of the right and the left. I think it is a way to deal with the frustration and grieving. And, eventually, to bounce back.

    Absolutely.

For all the SNP are patting themselves on the back Sturgeon's virulent anti Tory diatribe clearly resonated with many south of the border

Had she been a bit more statesman like rather than constantly repeating her childish and petulant refrain that the SNP would do anything to lock the Tories out of government she would most likely be sitting pretty tonight holding PM Ed Milliband's reins.

As it is she scared the English into swinging towards the Tories and giving them a majority which seemed almost impossible a day ago.

The only people her anti English rhetoric has locked out of goverment is herself, Nick Clegg and the hapless Ed Milliband, who despite his strong protestations he wouldn't do a deal (and who knows maybe he was telling the truth?) was tarnished by her association with him in the minds of the English.

Now Cameron needs to do right by England who have put him in number 10 and give the cynical Scots absolutely nothing. They had their chance to vote for independence and they didn't want it but now they all suddenly vote SNP? Of course they do they're not idiots - if they go it alone they'll be on a par with bankrupt Ireland in a few years but if they have a Westminster Labour government propped up by them they can hold the union to ransom. Well it's backfired and now it's high time the English asserted the authority. Do I believe Cameron will do this? Of course I do - well the same way I believe Red Grant will let you have a cigarette just before he kills you. Not a chance!

    There's that too.

I have to say, even though I never liked Cameron, I think his victory speech was very dignified and worthy of a prime minister. He almost made me forget that he is, at the core, a posh PR guy. And he certainly played his cards well during the elections.

And I may not be popular here, but I like Nicola Sturgeon. Disagree with her all you want, she also played her cards well.

Why do you think democracy is allowed? If people weren t so easy to manipulate, no way it would be so.

Obviously too young to remember the 17 years the Tories were in power and the damage they did to the country, some like to forget the damage Labour had to deal with when they came to power.

Got to give it to the Tories they played a blinder, first of all the coalition, shift all the blame to the Lib Dems and Clegg's betrayal. Then the Scottish referendum, pretty much guaranteeing Labour wouldn't be able to govern on their own and of course that load of bollocks scare mongering that the SNP would control Labour in a coalition.

Well you fell for it, lets hope you don't regret it!

Demographics - Tories are generally older - thus not on social media. Plus, of course, those who lost will usually make more noise

Regard people I actually know, most of the crowing I've seen is from champagne socialists. The rest are upset, but generally keeping a low profile.

Evenetually, also demographics will kick in in the UK. But for now the election system in the UK completely clouds that I think.

If I were a UK citizen I would have voted LibDems.

I also think it's necessary that LibDem and Labour come up with a charismatic leader in the upcoming weeks/months. That's also key to renewed success. Labout then also has to fear future backlash from the SNP, so I would love in the future to see a Labour-LibDem cabinet, in which Labour has around 220 seats and LibDems around 110 seats.

    My dream scenario :-P.

I think the most important thing to some out of the election is that Hatie Hopkins will not be leaving Britain for another country. I think it was the fear of losing her, that people voted Conservative. :))

That would be the only good to come out of Milliband winning. Imagine if all the other candidates dropped out and he won. Everyone turns to Katie Hopkins and motions a hand towards the coast, the population parting like the red sea. ;)

Yes. She's a vile, stuck up posh bully who's made a living off insulting other peoples appearance despite the fact that she herself is ugly as f**k. She's a hypocritical attention seeking twat. I could deal with her insulting people if she was actually funny doing it (like Frankie Boyle is), but she's not, there's no wit, her insults aren't clever, she's just nasty, and she often insults people who have done absoloutely nothing to warrant it. I would honestly love to see one of the women she's insulted for no reason beat the sh*t out of her.

What do you expect from someone who thinks Maggie's days were the glory days, I'd interested to know if you were actually affected by her polices or you are just going by the history books Wizard.

The I'm all right Jack society we live in pretty much guarantees a Tory government for the foreseeable future!

These are One Nation Tories - there's the difference to Thatcher. Check your history books for that one and you'll find it was not Ed Miliband who invented it.

I must say that I oppose Lib-Labism in all its forms. If you had lived in Britain at the time of the financial crash in 2008 I think you would too.

Are you suggesting that Hopkins might have tried to return as Martine Welbrush and armed with a full bushy beard?

@thelivingroyale - You hit the nail on the head. The warning signs were there when she got down to the final two candidates on The Apprentice, got the job offer from Sugar, only to turn him down on the spot. If anyone has a spare beer barrel, do us all a favour and stick it in her mouth, give us all a rest.

Yes, that showed early on she was a fame monger and little else really.

Interesting note: Jim Messina who managed Pres. Obama's 2012 campaign(2nd term) worked on Cameron's campaign. David Axelrod who managed Obama's 1st campaign worked on Milliband's side. Made even more interesting with the total lack of tv ads, opens up other media.

I watched the BBC coverage for a couple hours and the broadcast was really good. The reporters were not the breathless 'stop the presses, this is earth-shattering news' soap opera that U. S. election coverage has become. I saw intelligent discussions of voting trends and actual issues.

How long before the other Milliband moves back from New York?

Do you feel that Scotland will eventually separate themselves from the UK?

If put to a vote today, would the UK leave the EU?
