    Only slightly Bond-related:

I never noticed before that Tom Hardy is a dead ringer for Frederic Forrest:

Until someone pointed out on a forum previously. Craig has a habit of throwing anything handed to him. In particular keys.

You could make a compilation of Dan's Bond throwing things. It's his trademark, as well as habitually saying, "Thank you."

I'm speaking of things he does A LOT, and throwing and saying, "Thank you" appear to be the most frequent things that pop up in his body language and speech. I'm fascinated that this Bond is that respectful, as well, as he's often very abrupt and brutally honest.

    @PropertyOfALady, that's awesome!

I really do wonder how much this is an open thing on set, where Dan and co. plan moments for Bond to toss things, and how much of it is what Dan improvises. It's become such a frequent occurrence in his movies it's almost like a quiet little gag. I do love it though, not only for how dryly Dan does it that makes me chuckle, but for how he is the only Bond to do it and how that gives him a unique personality.

DAD: when Miranda hands Bond his room key card, he tosses it on the table.

    Brosnan did it first! ;)

I'm just happy to see that Bond has such good manners, it would be interesting
To hear Bond start using " Cheers mate" or " blinding " ;-)

I think there's too much similar and bland dialogue in SP. All from Bond, too.

Bond to M: "Very good, sir."

    (and directly after)

Bond to MP: "Very good, thank you."

Bond to C: "That all sounds lovely."
Bond to Q: "Well, that sounds marvelous."

    Bond to MP: "Instinct."
Bond to Lucia: "Well, then you have impeccable instincts."

All of this in the first 35 minutes. What happened to the interesting dialogue we had in CR?
  • In Thunderball when Fiona says to Bond: "But of course. I forgot your ego, Mr Bond. James Bond, who only has to make love to a woman and she starts to hear heavenly choirs singing. She repents and immediately returns to the side of right and virtue. But not this one." A sly reference to Pussy Galore and Goldfinger?

That's how I see it..a jibe at how easy it was in the other film.
I agree with Fiona,it was too easy, another part of GF I don't like.

Goldfinger was criticised about Pussy's change of mind. So this was put in as a joke by the writers. It's mentioned in quite a few reference books on the Bond films.

The sitting or standing wasn’t a deal breaker; I just really didn’t like the scene over all, and mistakenly, I thought Bond was standing through the entire scene, therefore I thought I had caught a continuity/editing error. That’s all.

Yeah, but it was a clear example of what you felt was the "laziness" of the movie. But it didn't even happen. It undermines the general characterization of the film.

Well, he does start a lot of sentences with "Well..." in all his films.

It's all rather pedestrian isn't it? Quite unfortunate. As if it was written by some novice who assumed this would pass as quality dialogue.

Hopefully they give us something far more impressive in this department after the long four year wait, even if it will be more difficult to translate all the nuances into multiple foreign languages.

Man, that dialogue was horrible. Haven't noticed it either. Must have been the nice cinematography that's disguised it..

There's only so many ways a man can say thank you, eh? ;)

It's hard to read nuance in text, but outside the C scene (which I think feels awkward, though perhaps purposefully), I think Dan delivers it all well. A lot of those are also delivered sarcastically, with Bond talking nice while using his body language and voice to show his lie. We see this in his "cheeky" talk with M and C and also with Lucia, where he really gets fired up.

Some of it can be plain, like when Bond is handed something but someone, but I'd rather him speak minutely and generally (which fits his actions not words character for me) than have him say, "Why thank you chap, you're a solid old Jolly Roger for aiding me as you have. Cheerio!" ;)

@Thunderpussy, I've read the same thing in one of my reference books on Bond and have shared the connection here before.

Some critics really went after GF for that (and within reason, I'd say) so I don't think it's illogical to assume that the writers made a meta joke about it in TB to make Fiona an exception to a rule.

Having just rewatched Bond's first appearance in Dr. No,I saw that, while introducing himself to Ms. Trench, Bond goes from having his cigarette in his hand while holding the "shoe" to having it in his mouth again just seconds later for a close-up shot.

The moment of discrepancy comes at 1:32-1:35 (video courtesy of our very own @CASINOROYALE):

If Bond ever came Down Under, he might say, "Cheers, mate!"

That would be a fitting tribute to dear Sir Rog'!

I love Spectre, but some of that earlier dialogue is repetitive and uninspiring. Reminds me of all the "to the point/get the point/point taken" nonsense from DAD.

Just for fun (and for the sake of variety) some possible responses lifted from other films:

M: "As of this morning, you are officially grounded. I'm standing you down from all operations indefinitely."
Bond: "Hire me or fire me. It's entirely up to you."

C: "...We're going to bring British intelligence out of the Dark Ages... into the light."
Bond: "Sorry about that, I tuned out there for a moment, Elliot."

MP: "So? How was the meeting?"
Bond: "Boring, Moneypenny. As a matter of fact, I dropped off."

MP: "And what makes you think you can trust me?"
Bond: "Make a sound and you're dead."

Q: "We can monitor your vital signs from anywhere on the planet."
Bond: "The world is not enough."

Lucia: "Well, I can tell you that I don't trust you."
Bond: "Lies spread by my competitors!"

Or you could just have Bond reply to everyone with "Do I look like I give a damn?" That might make for fun viewing :))

I remember that one, Brady- kind of like the left/right swing Bond delivers to Mr. Jones later in the film.

@QBranch, these are my favorites, as Bond's replies felt a little "off" and amused me:
MP: "And what makes you think you can trust me?"
Bond: "Make a sound and you're dead."

Lucia: "Well, I can tell you that I don't trust you."
Bond: "Lies spread by my competitors!"

Which gives me an idea for a (possibly) fun thread:

Someone posts a line from a Bond film, then all of us have to respond with another line from another movie (or the same one) that is hilariously ill suited as a reply in that conversation.
