He switches seats with Goldfinger so the latter can get his 'suntan', and upon sitting down, continues to shuffle the deck, which has changed from blue to red. One could argue that he changes decks when the shot briefly cuts to Bond and Felix, but all the decks on the table are red.

Was he the Chief of Police ? I didn't know that, how do you know,Q ?

You guys are just looking too deep into it. ;)

    That's what I think.

Interesting, I always assumed he was high up in the ranks because of the amount of money he can afford to lose against Goldfinger, but now I'm reading he wasn't even police! Must've been Bond's first line to Goldfinger that threw me off.

He is just a guest in the hotel,as is Goldfinger, who has money to spend.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I never realized previously that the back of Solitaire's famous Tarot card deck in LALD has '007' written all over it.

Oops...I'm not trying to show off, really, but that was one thing I noticed the first time I saw that movie in early 1974 (when I was 17), and it was one of the things that bothered me about it right away, along with the other supernatural/voodoo stuff which I think does not belong in a Bond movie as a rule. I still went on to see it three times at a theatre, the only James Bond film to be able to claim that, uhm, honour. And I still think it's a fun film and one of the better Roger Moore movies.

"So, what sharp little eyes you've got!".

I'm humiliated to confess that I've honestly never noticed that before. It's especially embarrassing given the number of times I've seen this film.

Was this really so obvious to others as well?

I've probably seen LALD more times than any other Bond film, and I will hold my hands up and say I've never noticed the cards 007 logo either.

If I hadn't read about it on these forums I would no doubt have gone through the rest of my days in blissful ignorance.

Now though I can stick the old film on and point it out to my wife and look all smug and clever.

Of course he is, and he makes it all the more obvious by distracting from his love for her by appearing to hate her. Classic reverse psychology. Like the best of the romances, Romeo and Juliet or Rick and Ilsa, Barry and Kara are walking a starcrossed path of love. I hope they end up together at the end.

Something I noticed the very first time I saw Casino Royale in theaters, but I wonder how many others have...

What's the last floor number we see as Bond rides the elevator up to Dryden's?

    That's right: 6.

For the debut of the 6th James Bond.
    Also foreshadowing.

    4, 5, 6... He's about to become OO7 with the second kill.

    Intentional or not, neat catch.

Oh I'm quite certain it was intentional. The filmmakers spend far more time with these films than even we do when putting them together. I seriously doubt "6" just happened to be both Craig's number in Bonds and the number they kicked off CR with. I mean just consider all the easter eggs they snuck into the titles, like how the animated blood spilling out of that one guy forms a curly "C" and "R."

I always wondered about that, thought it may have just been my imagination running wild. Rabbit-shaped clouds kind of stuff.

DAD: when Q catches Moneypenny 'testing out' the virtual reality program, he is holding something, tinkering with it. I never paid attention to what he's holding until now - it's an incendiary bomb - same as the ones Bond uses in LALD to blow up Kananga's poppy fields.

In QOS, when Bond throws the can of motor oil to Greene, it lands on his foot - the same foot he just split with the axe. I can't help but be reminded of Bond's line to Brofeld when seeing his eye wound: "Ouch. I do hope that doesn't hurt too much." :))

@QBranch, that's a good catch. Does Greene have any pain reaction, flinch, or anything of the sort when the can hits him?

I've always loved how Bond nails Greene's bum foot with that oil can.
[I don't think he can feel anything at that point.]

No, he doesn't. But it would be funny if he said, "Ouch!", like Bond does in CR when getting the little tracking implant in his wrist- having just been in a serious scrap with Carlos and scratches all over his face. :))

That really adds a special something to the scene. I'm always so glued to Dan and Amalric that I never even looked where the damn can was being thrown. :))

Agreed. I only noticed it tonight. It's seems like a little wink to the audience. More proof why QOS is such a great, underrated film. A real diamond in the rough.

I certainly agree with others that it gets better with every watch. I might even rate it 2nd after CR out of the Craig era films.

Of all my time on this forum I think the greatest satisfaction I've gotten is to see the turn around of opinion from some on QoS. It's a very quietly played film despite being action packed, and I think that inherently allows it to surprise you every time you watch it. Always something new to pick up on.
